You can never have too many Cubs. I'm sure they will bring a 1/4 scale J-3 back. I just don't see how they could top the last one. It was right on the money in every aspect. I have the new PA-18 Super Cub as well, and its right on the money as well. Little off subject, but I wish they would downsize the 1/3 scale Decathlon to 1/4 scale. (I don't have a trailer) They nailed this one to. It is absolutely scale and the best looking Decathlon ever produced. All the others on the market are plum silly looking. Pilot-1, RCGuys, ect ect....... Far Far from scale.

My Cub showed up today. Had fragile stickers, top load only stickers all over the box. I did see light damage on one corner but was not about to refuse delivery for that. I took the box inside, took photos just in case. Opened her up and started to inspect everything. All was good except the vertical fin had some damage. The repair should be simple, just glad it made it without serious damage. Now the fun begins, assembly is the time to do any mods/changes to improve on the design. Thanks to this thread for some great ideas...

The assembly of my H9 cub is just about complete. The only mod I did is adding the 6 inch Dubro tires, and convert to electric E-flite Power 160. I am waiting to see how the gear holds up with the large tires at zero pressure. I started to do the oring gear mod but am concerned about the welds that attach the 4-40 nuts to the gear leg. It seems like they could be twisted off easy then your screwed. Is this mod holding up or are there problems. Looking to maiden soon, just need the perfect day.

Same good luck as Galen, I did the O-ring mod 3 years ago and have no problems with many landings. If you use the existing springs that come on the gear, they will stretch out and your cub will get the sags. It happened the first few landings and they were not hard landings at all.

If you use 1/8" shock cord it will hold up better and last longer than O rings . I usually make one 16" band and wrap it around until it feels about right . One for each side . I found the o rings worked much better than the springs but they still cracked and broke all the time . The shock cord lasts forever.. You can usually get it at sports stores .

Bungee landing Gear Mod and pa18 shock covers
I have just comleted the bungee mod, instead of the orings. I threaded small screws through the small welded nuts and then tied one end of small bungee cable (bought at walmart) and then did about 12-14 some what tensioned wraps on each side. So close to 24-28 wraps per leg total. I also fabricated shock covers like the PA 18 as this plane is being converted to the PA18 from the J3. The springs that were on it seemed super tight, i would rather have a more forgiving landing gear.

I am sorry I am unable to load photo at this time but using the shock cord is the same as using o rings or rubber bands . You just make a big band and then wrap it around the same little catchers that catch the o rings . When you tie the knot in the shock cord to make the band ca the knot and pull it nice and tight . You can adjust your tension by adjusting how many times you wrap it around your catchers..They really work great.. Sorry I cant load some pics..I will try and get my buddy to take a few for me.

What plane is this for ? the Hanger 9 J3 ? I only have the PA 18 .. I would just measure the distance and make some up out of 4 40 push rods . Solder clevises on one end and thread on on the other end

Thanks BikerBC, lookin like i'll go with your first idea, silver solder a clevis end onto one end and use the threaded portion to make the fine adjustment on the other end. THanks, and i did find the actualy length finally, 4.75" But i'm going the solder route as i have some 4-40 laying around. Cheers.
