Hey Heli, Do you remember what section of Wal-Mart you purchased the small bungee'sin?
Thanks a lot!

What is the axle diameter of the axles on this plane? I am away from home and can't measure.

I have 3/16 " that I made from cap screws in mine . They fit and work great . The originals were not long enough for my big wheels .

Thanks for the info, I could potentially go this route but I have the stock axles and bought new wheels. I need the stock axle diameter as I want to buy brass tube and make bushings. Do you know the stock diameter? 5/32 ?

Awesome, thanks a lot, i bought some 7/32" outside diameter brass bushing tube with inside diameter of 0.191" I may have to run a reamer or drill bit through it but should still leave enough material as a bushing. cheers.

Maidened mine today. What a sweet flying plane! I bought mine used, previous owner stripped the Ultracote when it was new and re-covered it in Solartex. I added the VVRC 40 twin. AWESOME little motor, and a PERFECT match to this plane!

Regards,

Astro

Does anyone have a right wing they want to part with? Lightly damaged is even ok...

Watched your video of the flap operation. You did a super job with the install. Very scale looking with the hidden push rod linkage and servo. I didn't think doing the bottom hinge method. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished Super Cub.

still working on this one, kinda messing with the wings, they are scratch built and not perfectly aligned like stock. Need to bring up the trailing edge of the wing a bit relative to the fuselage to lessen then angle of incidence to a more stock set up. Vvrc 40 cc twin installed with functioning cowl doors.

Couple more, just an idea of what I'm dealing with for the wings. Flaps are all cut into them now as well. Just need to raise the trailing edge of wing, easiest way I'm thinking is to relocate the rear holes in fuselage for the most aft small wing tube.

Hey, Heli-Mech - Is the Hanger 9 1/4 scale cub J3 landing gear fully interchangeable with the PA18 landing gear? Meaning you can take the whole assembly off of a 1/4 scale PA18 and directly install it on the 1/4 scale J3? - (I'm aware of the paint difference, of course) Thanks much.

Mike,

wish I could answer that but I'm not sure. The floats are interchangeable so I'm assuming the mounts are the same. I looked at the pictures of both and they look the same other then the shock covers. I built my shock covers for my pa18 conversion myself.

I think the H9 PA-18 has a wider fuselage than the H9 J3, so the spreader brace on the PA18 is probably the only part that would be different... I have the Robart j3 cub gear on my sig cub, and its suppose to be a replacement for the H9 gear; based on that assumption, the spreader brace is a bit narrower than the H9 PA18, something that could be corrected.

I just got my PA18... one thing I noticed right away, which is hard to believe; H9 got the gear scaled correctly over the Robart gear , center to center between the fore and aft pivot points on each arm scaled is 5.375" H9 nailed it, where as Robart's is 4 5/8" center to center... go figure.

Default Maidened flight

Maiden flight on the converted j3 to pa18 tonight. Got the vvrc 40cc tuned in nicely and sounded great. A bit windy for my liking so another long time club member maidened it, little up trim and that was it. I'll take the sticks on Sunday and hopefully get some time on it.

HELI-MECH,
Your Super Cub really looks outstanding! I have a dozen or so flights on mine now. The G26 and a 16/8 Master Airscrew prop seem to be a good choice. This airplane is awesome with flaps!! It will almost stop in mid air. Takeoffs and landings are sweet. Put the floats on mine for the float fly next Saturday.

Thanks a ton, super pumped about this plane and can't wait to get mine on floats as well. Great pics you added, can't beat a cub!

Hey there, thanks a lot, project turned out great. I have quite a few pics of the build, there was some pretty big mods to the tail, firewall and front portion of fuse, but overall easy to do. Highly recommend the vvrc 40cc engine, stuffs nicely in cowl and looks great with dual exhaust and also highly recommend the hinged engine cowl doors for tuning purposes. I have quite a few pics in this forum I think, check into it.

HELI-MECH,
Did you get to fly your Super Cub today and get a chance to play with the flaps? Where did you get the tires? I like the tundra look they have. I'm using the 1/3 scale Dubro cub tires on mine for now but would like to go bigger.

HELI-MECH, sorry to hear about your engine failure, that was a beautiful looking job you did. in the last pictures you posted it looked like you where on approach, what is on the horizontal stabilizer? looks like something was
caught on the flying wire brace.

Heli-Mech,
I'm really sorry to see that! I know how much time and work you have put into the build. But don't let it beat you. REBUILD her.
Here is one of my projects to give you some incentive.
