Good looking plane. I'm sure you mean a 1500 for the engine. Looks well equiped. Interested in hereing how that DL50 does. I would think that a 60 or 70 would do in a plane with that wing span, but the weight is low for that size, before fuel and smoke.

I had the DL-50 in a Goldberg Extra 330 ( 77" WS , 1118 sq in. wing area ) that weighted in at 16 1/2lb and it was awesome.
In the Yak I'm only 4 - 5 oz more with much much more wing area ( 1457 sq in ). Hope it's gonna be great.

I can't believe you came in that lite with all that equipment, Did you use a good scale? I could chop nearly a pound off that weight. Wow, that would be one awsome plane. Why the big hole in the cowl by the muffler, for cooling?

Nice job. I have about ten gallons through my DL 50. No complaints in sight.
I did not cut nearly that big of hole for the muffler. Mine stays nice and cool. For cooling air to exit, I cut the box out that is in the underside of the cowl. Much cleaner to look at from the side.
That is not the factory tank is it. If it is, how did you get it in there?

Let me tell you a little story about baffeling, cowl cutting,ect... last week I was at a flyinn with my 88'' EF Yak. I did not install the front baffle like a lot of guys. My cowl is wide open in front and I only cut out a small rectangle in the oil cooler section. My friend who has the Berrelli 60 cc with full baffleing was running temps of 200 deg. My DA-50 never hit above 155 deg. We tached my DA at 6700 with a 23x8 NX. The Berrelli guy had the tach. When he saw that, he refused to tach his. He has the same 23x8 NX prop. He said he needed to work on his a little. LOL

The 1st Laser I had a mishap and broke the fuse. I bought a 2nd as a back up since I liked the plane so much. I put it together, and the cowl is cut the same exact way ( I used the 1st ones cut outs as patterns for the 2nd cowl ), but I can't get the OS to stay cool in this plane.
The complete set up is exactly the same, fuel tank in same spot, same fuel, etc.
The 1st one never went about 160 dg, I can't get this one even close. I made air outlets bigger and even put in baffles.
Got any ideas?

RE: What do you think / all ready to go
The maiden was today.
Flew excellent and pulled the best landing of my life.
Hoovers at 1/2 throttle and pulls out like a train at full throttle.
Light , crisp, and flys like it is on rails.
It floats great, the landing was slow and easy.
Two clicks of right, and two clicks of up.
I'll do a check over tonight on everything.
I do want to put some washers on the ball links of the servo horns as a saftey so that they can't pop off.
I am very, very happy.

Great to hear all is going well! Can you explain how to install the washers on the ball links? Maybe a few pictures will help. I too agree with the cowl cutting, it may not be the prettiest but works the best. I rather have zero overheat than a pretty cowl

Thank you I see how it works.
BTW very good drawing... I think you may be cutting yourself short; it actually looks like 2nd or 3rd grade… you kept all the letters in upper case, outstanding!

RE: What do you think / all ready to go
My only complaint is the landing gear.
Every landing I made was perfect. When I was taxing back I hit a ground hog hole and blew the right landing gear off. Upon looking at the gear, were the bends are at the fuse, they were totally delamintating. I cut the box ( that goes between the two peice landing gear ) out and had TNT custom bent me some aluminum gear. I repaired and doubled up/fish plated the entire gear area.
All is well again.
