Thanks.....lotta work went into that......but I'm glad I did it.
Regarding that website, I did a search for it too and came up with nothing....I was just curious if they were still around...apparantly not.

Thanks outacontrol41. That really rings a bell with me, as I seem to remember something about them being too high. Maybe that's why I can't find the website anymore. BTW, Thanks for the pix of your 1/4-scale Pawnee 150. It's beautiful!

Yup, thanks mate, that's the link I was looking for. Same plane...about the same price. The shipping cost is total killer, though. Seems like I was quoted $350 to $385 U.S.D. to get it over here.[X(][X(] No thanks!

Pawnee owners I found a little issue with mine tonight after flying. I found some fuel streaks on the root rib. So to provide some extra protection, I'm going to cover the expose ribs with some white Ultracoat. Want to keep this plane for awhile.

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!
Well I must say, my second outing and third flight with this baby - I love it - perfect for a summers day.
My Pawnee has the e-Flite Power 46 with 55amp FlightTech ESC and 4270mah 5 cell (18.5v) Evolite pack.
6 x Dong Yang S208 servos, cheap but double ball raced and probably give Futaba 3001 a run for their money which is normally my servo of choice.
Running a 12x8 IC prop I'm getting about 830watts, forgot to measure amps but sure it's lower than 45 as the 13x8 prop I had was close to that.
AUW is in between the recommended, I had to add weight to the tail to get it to balance (I spray painted it white so it didn't stick out like a sore thumb).
I flew tonight for 7 minutes and a little extra for my landing. Early thoughts is about 3200mah of battery usage which equals to 456mah per minute. I reckon I would be good for 8.4 minutes if I left 10% of the total battery power untouched for a real emergency.
I figure that 7 minutes 30 seconds will be my limit as I don't really want to be caught short and I don't like to push the batteries too much.
Flying, take off is brilliant, slow gentle roll out with no flaps, half throttle for normal tootle around the sky (probably the reason for good duration). I had to calm down the elevator, I've got 50% rates on the elevator and -40% expo on the elevator, rudder, aileron.
I would throughly recommend this aircraft, electric conversion is easy out of the box.
Anyway I've added some pictures of my aircraft, pilot to be added when I get his clothes.

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!
Hi guys well I finally got to maiden my Hanger 9 pawnee today and what a lovely model it is to fly!
So with an e-flite power 90 swinging a 18x10 e-flite prop on 20C 6S 4200's the model will tow up a 3.2 meter Gruno 4 or a 2.6meter cmpro discus in a very scale like fashion and with a couple of clicks of flap climbs out quite nicely, 15 tows in all.
My takeoff run as mentioned uses a little flap, about the thickness of the trailing edge and allows the model to rotate in its own time and settle into a steady scale climb out. Landings present no problems with those big powerful flaps, just be sure not to flare too early and depending on circumstances you may need to add a touch of power before touch down.
So next on the horizon is to try a 18x12 (I can't fit a bigger prop) for some extra zing and perhaps a flitepower 25c 6s 4900. At present I get 5 tows to height with reserve for 3 minutes general flying on the 4200mah.
All in all I am very happy with this handy sized tug and look forward to towing models from 2-3.75 meters such as the cmpro ventus, aerofever DG 1000, Discus, etc hopefully this will inspire some new models to be built in a handy sized package that offer great value for money and many hours of laid back fun.

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!
I was finally able to get a first flight in over the weekend on my Pawnee. It is an incredibly great flying model!
I went electric and used a Power 60, 80 amp Turnigy ESC, 6S 4200 lipos and a 16/10 prop. I need no nose or tail weight...I put half the battery in the tank compartment and half the battery in the front of the servo tray....CG worked out perfectly.
I am of the firm opinion that the Power 60 (or similar equivalent) is the best choice for this model, after watching others fly them with the Power 46 that H9 suggests. The 46 in the Pawnee does a nice job of puttering about like a Piper Cub...but this is a brawny more powerful aircraft in real life....the Power 60 replicates this nicely. You can always throttle back if you want to be Cub-like. (I can see using a Power 90 or similar for towing, too)
Here is a picture of mine......1/6 scale action figure in the cockpit. I really like the scale look that the Oho Superstar tailwheel adds to the model. With just a few more scale details, it would almost pass for a real one!

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!
I found one, I found one, I found one.
Just ordered a Pawnee 40 today after 2 1/2 weeks of searching.
I was almost willing to pay ebay prices but my efforts paid off.
I have called almost every LHS in the lower 48.
Last night I finally found someone who had one in stock. I whipped out the credit card so fast I could have torn a rotator cuff.
I really want to put a Saito twin in it but am concerned about the weight. I'll probably just go with an inverted .72

Vettdriver, when I put my Mag .80 4S, I was able to get it in sideways as opposed to inverted. It fit great, I even had the muffler completly enclosed. Now that I have a Evo .61 2S in it, it's still sideways and looks great (and runs great) I just had to cut out the a little for the muffler.

Bassfisher,
Thats the thing I want the most is total enclosure. The sound of the twin would be great but heavy.
I have tried going electric because of not cutting holes in cowls, but after 2 big planes with expensive lipo's I'm done with that.
How did it fly w/ a .80 in it?

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!
I started out to plant a twin in the Pawnee but opted for KISS and used a OS70 four stroke and was not unhappy. I tried the twin Saito 90 then after trying to balance it I didnt want to add useless weight to the airframe. It did fit inside the cowl, bit the counterweight was an issue for me

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!
So you now have the OS70 in the cowl and you're happy? This plane is a real floater...it doesn't take much to get it airborne. My Saito 82 will allow mine to do slow loops and rolls but nothing vertical....runs out of steam quick doing that. This plane must be a big seller...nobody can keep them in stock.-Or they're having touble producing them in China...something is holding up the current orders.

I called Horizon before I started my crusade and they said that based on current backorders any new order probably couldn't be filled until mid August.
No way was I getting on that list.
TooLow, how much heavier was that twin than the .70 you ended up using?

Don't get me wrong, they said they expected a shipment any day now.
They just also said due to all the backorders and anticipated shipping schedule it was highly unlikely that any new order could be filled at that time.
I respected that honesty. How easy would it have been to just tell me Mid June and sit on my order for a couple months with no updates.
As a result I am more than willing to give them a chance at my future business.

I heard that most of the significant Horizon hobby dealers got two of the Pawnees in the first run.
Hangar 9 is getting ready to premire the new Fokker DVII and has a lot of other kits, new and old that are in the prodution queue.
Beleive it or not, there is not really an infinite production capacity for high quality ARFs in Asia..,there are 5-6 quailty ARF plants and some thers more at the Nitroplanes level.

With some shopping around, you caan do an electric Pawnee for about 300 for motor, ESC and batteries.
If large lipos are an issue, try 8S2P 4600 packs made from A123 cells. the battery would only be about $160-170 for the 16 cells if you build them up yourself.

This just for the battery...without the motor or the ESC?? Add those items to the list and you've spent more than you would have for a decent four stroke engine with comparable power. NO DISRESPECT to the guys who can afford and love electic....but I'll take the oil drips, please.
