I fly with a 13X6 Evolution and OS70 FS. Have also flow with 12X7 and 12X8 and same engine. You may find ground clearance a problem with a 14'' prop and stock wheels. John

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!
Looks like this thread has been dead for awhile, but I have to post. I’ve had my Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee from the first run of planes when they were 189.00 and finely maiden it yesterday. I cracked it up on the first flight about and year and a ½ ago, I won’t go into that story. It sat for a long time before I felt like putting it back together. I have a Saito 82 w/a 14x4 wide prop. It lifts off in about 20ft of runway and will float all day at low idle. When I drop the flaps it does not nose up at all, just floats all the better. All in all it’s a great flyer and lands like a dream.

You said they were $189 when you got yours. How long ago has that been? I got mine for Christmas and love it but it was almost $100 more. I went with a 60 size electric and a 14x8 wooden prop. I have also used a 14x6 prop. It's a very nice flyer and I always get compliments on it. Hope you have better luck with it this time around.[8D]

Where would one find the tiny retainer clips for the struts on the H9 40 size Piper Pawnee. I knew sooner or later I was bound to lose one, but didn't expect to lose two in the same day.[]

My LHS ordered me a set from Horizon Hobby. They are readily available and I bought mine before I had the plane assembled for just such a situation.

Or do what I have done. Just use 4-40x3/4 socket head bolts w/ nylon lock nuts. To me they're a lot easier to install than the pins/clips, much easier to find and much more solid.
Jusy my .02 worth.

Good to hear from another Ohioan. My Pawnee flies just great. A twin would add extra nose weight, which definitely isn't needed. However, I suspect someone has put a twin in one, but just hasn't reported it here.

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!
Picked this up as an early Christmas present. Have started to assembly. Had to spend over an hour going over the covering. This is my first Hangar 9 plane and while I am impressed by the construction, I am wondering if I just got one that needed alot of work on the covering. Picked up a 82 Satio for the powerplant and a GI Joe as the pilot. I have read over most of the thread and love some of the things others have done to the kit! Thanks to everyone for all the great information!

Mine arrived two day's ago. I have not bought an arf since the early days of Junk arf's. Remember the ones that felt like they were covered in Heat shrink tubing. I saw this thread and thought I would give one another shot. Overall I am impressed with the evolution in the Arf planes. Covering was just about perfect. I was also impressed with the laser cut framing. Right now I just have it mocked up but the fitment of parts is impressive. For the Money spent I think it was A good deal overall.
Now for the Fun part, Removing all of the covering for a more realistic re finish and paint. Installation of at least a static spray system and possibly a gas engine. I am really impressed with the cockpit area and the amount of detail that can be added.
I have to admit that this thread sold me on one, No regrets here. Keep up the good work Guy's.

Thanks Georgee
As far as what size Gas engine, I have not decided that yet. I need to do some research to see whats out there, Whats small yet enough to fly this Bird without ripping it apart.
Once the covering is off i'll go through the Airframe and strengthen it up, add gussets to the engine box, Glue to the joints etc. I am really wanting to swith over from Nitro to Gas.
Any recomendations are sure welcome.

I'll look into that.
Last visit to my LHS they had a 17cc gas with EI in there, Did not check it out or the make but might go have another look.

If I were you,I wouldn"t give a chance to the extremely cheapo engines. Its better to settle down with a quality engine like the Dle....
