This is my best build job to date guys!! It comes as an ARF kit. (automatically ready to fuss). I love ‘em to like no other. He is just now getting to the point of letting me sleep through the night and pay attention to my planes again. I did not know I had this much love in me.

Brian,

Great ARF kit you got there. I have 5 of those ARF's myself. Just as with our planes they need a soft touch.

On the Lanier front..... I flew mine a couple weeks ago. I came in for a nice touchdown and was fumbling around for the cutoff switch on my xmitter and hit the ailerons by mistake. The prop dug into the ground and broke my firewall. All fixed now but had to pull the zdz80 as the rotory plate for the carb inside the engine jumped out of it's holder. Fixed it and had it running in the plane yesterday. Hooked up my smoke system and I thought the neighbors were going to call the fire dept. It was awesome. Getting her ready to fly at our Memorial day picnic next week.

I've been flying my Reactor Bipe with a saito 100 in it lots lately. The plane is so awesome. It makes me look much better than I am. goes from a wall to hover with ease, then just locks and stays. When exiting a snap roll the plane will just point where you release the sticks .. highly reccomended. I got laid off last fall and still haven't found a new job yet , so lots of stick time for me this season.

Talk soon,

Dan

HELP! any ZDZ RVJ owners out there?

I'm a bit perplexed. I purchased a jug, piston, ring, and gasket for my ZDZ 80 RV-J. I had it shipped overnight so that I could participate in a fly in this Saturday. Here is my problem, this "new" jug looks as if it has a helicoil in it that someone did a sloppy job installing with JB Weld. To top it off, the new plug size is not even close to the the size of the old plug. It is way smaller. Is this a ZDZ mandated mod.? I can't find a plug to fit this sloppy looking thing.
any ideas?

The stock ZDZ plug is a B whick is a 14mm plug. If it has a J or a D it's 12mm. If the plug number has a C it is 10mm. From your picture it looks like a 12mm or a 10mm hole. I would call where you got it from because that looks like a crappy repair job to me. It looks like it was stripped and somebody used whatever coil they had on hand and whatever adhesive they had on hand as well. Does the inside of the cylinder look new?

Looks like a C&H adapter. They are made of brass and are used to convert to a CM6 plug.

I pulled that jug back off my ZDZ.
As I feared the inside had JB Weld(?) gooed up all over the under side of the coil (see pics. last one is what I got out)
I decided to take a stab at removing the excess. I have some dental tools that I covered in masking tape in order to not mar up the inside of the jug if I were to strike it. I first sprayed the inside with WD-40 so that particles would stick and not go far. I also thought that it may soften the excess JB Weld a bit. I think I got it clean to the point of not having to worry about a chunk of JB Weld coming off and scoring up the inside of the jug. Let me know what you guys think of the following:

1. disperse any solvents. Finally, I wiped it down with a lint free cloth and coated the inside with 2-stroke oil. Do you think any of the above fluids harmed the coating that I hear is on the inside of the jug?
2. I know the pictures I gave you may not be worth 1000 words, but what do you think of the clean up job? Safe to run?
3. Is there more I should do?
3. Is the gasket ruined now that I have cracked the jug open again?
4. Am I correct in assuming that this setup is for a NGK CM-6 plug?

I talked with the folks at Troy Built models they were a great help and rectified the mix-up post haste!! Apparently ZDZ is going to switch all of it’s ignition systems over to this new set up. This is a customer return that was never used and frankly that person did a poo poo job at starting the conversion. Bottom line, Troy built is making it right and making me happy.

Brian,

Were did you get that can? I dunno if I would run it with jb weld in it. I don;t think over time and vibration it will hold up... But hey ..you can try it.

I've been pulling my hair out with mine too. I replace the carb with a Walbro and it starts much easier. I'm thinking of putting a DLE 110 in it . The dimensions of the DLE are 10" head to head. I might have to cut the cowl to make it fit. May be overpowered but Maxim far a DA-100 in his and it seems to fly well.

Check out my new video on youtube of my Reactor Bipe taken today ... It's a sweet 60 size model with a saito 100 in it ..

I am looking for parts for the lanier edge 540. I need a right wing and landing gear. I would be interested in a complete airframe if anybody has one they would like to part with.

thanks

Ouch..... No parts here, but it's good to see you're still smiling after the mishap.

I also have one that I would like to get rid of. It is not new, nor is it in a box. The fuse is great, the wings need some work. A field mouse decided to make a nest out of my wings, ate through my wing bag and did a number on the wing tips. I don't have the time to repair. I am in Cincinnati and have no problems doing a little traveling to get the plane out of my garage. Let me know if you are interested and I will take some pics.

thanks I had a great day of flying that just ended bad. it was a long walk to the plane with a friend so I had some time to say a few choice words and get over it. when we took the photo I was joking about how hard it hit with so little damage.

thanks
