Hey all, I am getting my Extra tomorrow. I am into 3D so I will be putting in a DL 50 on a pitts I have around. I am going to be going pull-pull with one Hitec 5955 on the rudder, should be plenty. Hopefully, it will balance out o.k. I look forward to being part of the thread, I will have some pictures soon.

Should be wild with a DL 50. I thought about it but decided to go with the Fuji 43 for now. I have a DL in a GP Wagstaff (17lbs) and it has incredible power. I'm going to try and keep my 330 around 14.5lbs so the Fuji 43 should do fine as I am more into IMAC style flying. If I get brave down the road I do have another DL downstairs I could put in it. Your vertical pull outs will be like a rocket. Would be fun to watch.

I had my DL 50 in my Great Planes Yak 54. It weighed 15 lbs 4 oz with smoke, all I can say is "WOW!" Talk about unlimited vertical. The plane was incredible with the 50, it now has my Fuji 43 in it and it flies very nicely. I can't wait to try the 50 out on the Extra.

thanks all, miss u guys so that i went and got the web out here on the road, but typing is a pain, so bear with me, paro operational cost cheaper cause my girls run and make their power with straight fai fuel, no nitro, less exspensive, tim, u are correct, as long as auw is good we'll live with the heavy wing tube, and yes i've seen guys at my feild pull 250ft loops and never cut throttle on the back side and i just watch and cringe thinking of the STRESS those poor wings must be enduring, so i understand the overkill with the tube, again, i cannot get over the quality of this kit, i've been doing this 30 yrs plus, and that covering job would give me a run for my money not to mention the paint match, if any of you out there are on the fence about this one, let me tell u this, the big one is on my short list 4 xmas and that list has some big-time heavy hitters on it, i'll say agin; THIS ONE IS A 10+.......until next time....MM

Kfoster, I don't know what prop you will use with your DL50 but let say if you use a 22in prop will you have enough clearance?
As for the gp Yak 54, it's not the end of the world, I hope this one is better, I like the extra but maybe.

Hey Choopi, nice to talk to someone not to far away. On the of the guys I fly with here has a DL50 on his GP CAP, I think it has the same gear as the Extra and there is the same amount of clearance as I had on my GP Yak with the 50. As far as my Yak with the Fuji in it, I have a 21 x8 on it and it spins about 6800 rpm. The only real difference is the 50 has a lot more pullout.

Kfoster,I had a Yak That I sold. Would you say that the Cap or that 330s fly better, as far as wing loading and precision flying. The Yak ok but not the best out there. Where did you get that plane? In Regina?

Yes it's nice to talk to somebody from Regina.

I have only seen the CAP fly, I have not finished the Extra, so I can't say much. I do know that the CAP can do it all, it is a very nice plane. I think that it is the one piece wing that turn a lot of people off. I get most of my stuff from Henry at Redline here in Regina.

I got a blade 400 from Redline, some of his price are ok, the blade was 439 at that time best price around. As for plane some look expensive but didnt realy look for that. It's just that now that I sold my Yak, I'm looking for something new. I find the the Waggstaff from Great planes look good but heavy? so I don't know what to get.

A DL50 is a good choice for sure, more than enough power for that plane, probably as light as the 43cc that you are looking at. The DL is a good reliable engine that get only positive feedback from all over.

Hi guys!!!

Finally got my Extra yesterday.

By the looks of it the quality of this ARF seems TOP NODGE!!!

QUESTION for everyone who already recieved/built this plane:

I have read the manual several times and was under the impression that the servo arms for the rudder setup
were included in the kit!? (added a picture of it from an earlier posting)

Did you get them? If Yes mine are missing...[]

Patrick,

yes, those stamped, aluminum rudder servo arms are supposed to be included in the kit. But when I was building my personal model (from production stock right out of our warehouse), I couldn't find mine at first either. Then, I found they were packeged somewhere unexpected like with the pushrod wires or somewhere "funny" like that - not in with the rest of the hardware. Make sure you've looked through all the bags and everything.

If you still don't find them contact Product Support and they will send you replacements. If they don't have any, I can get some from spares I have leftover.

Let us know if you do find them.

Hey guys i am getting mine Thursday and i have an EVO 45gt to power it. I have one other gas plane the GP super chipmunk and have a Brillelli26SSR one the way for my Funtana. This will be my first 50cc size 3d plane and i cannot wait to get it going. I believe the EVO will be enough for 3D! The plane is beautiful, hope that it performs as well as it looks.

FOUND THEM!!!

Yes they were "somewere funny", like you wrote. I saw the pushrods were taped on the inside of the box and they were behind them.
So...eventually i had found them anyway.[&:]
It´s like that when your in a hurry to get airbourne
Thanx for the tip Tim!

Did the ailerons tonight. Went togheter without pain.
Also had time now for a real in-depth look at all the parts.
WOW! You really thought about everything. Quality and good design thinking everywere you look!
Great work!

This one will be a real pleasure to build, a genuine "no brainer"!

Hey guys i see that the rudder can be set up as a pull pull or a regular push rod with the sevo's in the back. do i really need two servos in the back or can one do the job? also the tank that comes with the plane, for you guys using gas did you use same tank or get another one?

Thanks for the compliments Patrick, and I'm glad you found your servo arms.

Well, enjoy your build and I hope you like the way it flies just as well.

Hi skillet.

I know you're probaby waiting for answers from people other than the guy who works for the company and worked on the model, but I'll give you my answer anyway and hopefully the other guys will answer you too;

I guess you could use only one rudder servo, but you'd have to double-up on the torque ratingand make sure you use servos with metal gears. I've seen a few others do the same. The reasons some guys like two servos though is redundancy.

As far as the fuel tank, I think this one works swell. I believe it's the same fuel tank that's in the other "Performance Series" planes of this size and I'm not aware of any complaints. Mine has been working fine in my plane. If you are using a gas engine you'll need to swap out the parts as noted in the instruction manual.

Depends on how much torque you will need....If your into very agressive flying like hardcore 3D, then youll need a lot of torque to withstand the pressure inflicted on the control surfaces which are BIG on a plane of this type. For sunday flying around with some occasional loop, then of course you dont need as much. IMAC is somewhere in between.
So...as for the rudder, here is my personal veiw: Sunday flying, a Hitec 645MG (7,7kg 4.8V or 9,6kg 6V) will be enough, IMAC practice and competition (My own setup) a Hobbico CS-150 digital (14kg 6V) is fine. For really agressive flying/3D youll need both high torque and high speed. So any of the bigger digital servos will be fine. To me two or more servos are A: If you need very much torque like in a 40% plane or B: to get redundancy. Then of course you have to consider your linkage as well. With high pressure loading on the control surfaces and a high torque servo in the other end you need sufficient material in between...The provided 4-40 rods or pull/pull wire will be enough for any kind of flying with this size model in my opinion.

The tank looks fine! Like Tim wrote, dont forget to buy a tank stopper for gasoline and use tygon tubing.

How big is the tank anyway??? Cant find anything on it, looks like 20-25oz?

Included some pics from my unpacking and inspection of the parts. The color scheme is really nice! It glows in the sun!![8D] Also some of the nice already done features. Specially the firewall, no measuring or thinking, just drill and mount! Last pic of my hinged ailerons.

Thanks Patrick for your further explanation of servo requirements and for your endoursement of this kit in your previous message.

I'll look up the tank size in my records for this model at work and post it.

I got mine done today, DL 50 with a TBM Pitts muffler, itec 5955 on the rudder. It comes in at 14 lbs 14 oz. Should be a hovering demon. I am looking for some feedback on CG. Is the recommened CG the best? Is there anyone out there with some flight time and some CG recommendations?
