Giant Big Stik outfit
Once again thanks for everybody's responses to my posts. After careful consideration I have decided on the Giant Big Stik to be my next ARF. Was looking to get right into the giants and this seems to be the ticket. Getting pretty good with simulator now. Can takeoff and land no problem with a loop here and there and a barrel roll with the trainer in G3.5. Almost finished with the Hobbistar 60. That will have a .61FX OS engine with a Futaba 6EXA radio and 4 servos. Now looking for input regarding a engine 2 or 4 stroke? Radio, servos, prop, fuel, and all the extras that are needed to get this "STIK" in the air as a giant trainer. I like that the throws are minimal. The only other plane I was considering was the OMP 1005 EDGE 540 HYBRID 92". This OMP can be built very docile and can be changed later on for acrobatics. But I'm still leaning towards to Giant Big Stik. There are so many variables the considerations are endless. Any thoughts from the forum would be great.

RE: Giant Big Stik outfit
I've seen a Giant Big Stik fly with an OS 1.60 two stroke and it was pretty impressive. I think the pilot said he had a 24 ounce fuel tank and was pretty much sucking air after a 10 minute flight. He now thinks going with a gas engine might have been a better choice because of fuel cost.

Yup, go gasser.
Higher up front cost compared to glow, but you'll save that on fuel many times over.
An you will not be so worried about deadsticking due to running out of fuel.
Provided you do not crash it, you'll keep this plane around for a LONG time, so the investment will be wise.

RE: Giant Big Stik outfit
Well surprise, surprise, surprise. Ended up with a Great Planes Giant Sportster with a D7 Spektrum radio and 70 oz. servos. The hobby shop still recommended a OS 1.60 w/muffler 2 stroke. This plane calls for a 32cc gasser if that's the choice for gas. Just bought the ARF and the radio for now. I can appreciate the interest in gasser engines. They had a Zenoah 26 there with electronic ignition but I ran out of cash after buying a prop balancer and assorted extensions along with everthing else above. Also there was a Saito engine there but they wanted close to 600 for it. If the forum could let me know if they feel a gasser would be good for this plane please let me know. This plane came recommended as a good ARF to put together and was rated highly as a first giant. Thanks in advance to all.

A single 70oz torque servo per aileron seems a bit weak to me... but I don't have one of these.

Brillelli engines have a very good reputation and that 36 does look like a good choice. You have to buy an engine any way and these are around the price you will pay whichever type you choose. I personally would recommend this engine or maybe the 46cc if it will fit.
When you get up to this size it is nice to use pump gas as opposed to nitro. Feeding those large nitro engines gets expensive.

RE: Giant Big Stik outfit
This plane uses a servo for each airleron. May go for the Fuji BT-32B engine because the sportster is set up for it mostly already. Also I believe the Fuji comes with the muffler which supposedly sits nicely in the back to keep the scale appearance. Zenoah G-38 is same price but I believe it does not come with the muffler and requires a little more mods than the Fuji for the giant sportster. And Fuji has a 3 year warranty on their engine. Don't know what Zenoah has. Can get either engine for $295 + tax @ 8.3%. If anybody knows where I can find one cheaper than this please let me know. Thanks again to all.

I have a .60 stick with 110oz/in servos on it. 90oz/in would have sufficed or maybe the servos you are using...
I'm glad I went with the stronger servos to prevent blowback...
Yours is much bigger...

RE: Giant Big Stik outfit
The Spektrum radio package I have comes with 4 - DS 821 servos rated at 72 oz in each. The manual for the giant sportster requires 5 servos rated at a minimum 0f 50 oz in. I have 4 at 70 oz in that comes with the radio. I also bought a ST126MG which is rated at 126 oz in for the rudder and a ST47 rated at 47 oz in for the throttle. All these ratings are at 4.7 volts and are higher at 6.0 volts. Why would I need stronger servos than these?

RE: Giant Big Stik outfit
While reading through previous threads, I hope I'm not making a mistake by installing the OS BGX-1 (35cc) glow engine on my GP Giant Big Stik. I've already installed a 24oz tank knowing it would be a gas hog. Does anyone have any words of wisdom for me or is it too late?

While you should be good for more than that, better safe than sorry.
After you land check the fuel tank until you get a general feel for how much fuel it will use.
Let us know how it goes.

Weather permitting, aiden flight will take place tomorrow. I'll let you know how it went. With the BGX-1 and bisson muffler hanging on the nose and a 4200mAh Ni-MH pack mounted in rear compartment under the wing, CG is at 6 in. No extra weight needed.
