So after a close call trying stuff less then 2 mistakes high, I need more power to weight ratio. So out come the 2100 nmih rx and the 1700 nmih ign batterys. I have a 2500 lipo, a 15 amp regulator and a rx operated 10 amp switch.

Can I use one battery and run both ign and rx?

I have a Zen 26 in it right now flew 5 flights or 2 tanks of fuel and use next to no juice out of the batterys.

Love the plane just waiting till winter to buy a dle 30 and stuff it in.
Reg and switch.

THe switch will not work because the gas ignition will give feed back from the ignition. Hmm

If you can find a new in box DLE30 at a low price...Tower Hobbies has the rear car kit fot $15. Then you got a engine you can use as side intake or rear intake.

Capin' can you post a link to that rear carb kit for $15? I cannot seem to find it on Tower's site.

You are going to need more power than the DLE 30. I have two Seagulls 180,one with a Saito 180 and the other one with a CRRC GF40.They fly very well but for 3D you need more horsepower. With both of these motors they have unlimited vertical and will pull out of a hover but will not rocket up. The plane flyes better with the Saito. It feels lighter but it sucks the nitro like no other. Hope this helps...

Lou, what prop are you running with the CRRC40?

I have tried a 18X8 and a 20X8 on the crrc 40. The plane is faster with the 18X8 but has morer pulling power with the 20X8. The motor seems to like the 20X8 more.I also have a Sundowner by Hangar 9 with a CCRC GF40 motor and I am running a 15X12.

Thanks. lou. I was trying to compare the power of the DLE30 to the CRRC40. On my DLE30 I run 18X10 & 19X6 so I would guess the 30 is down a little in power.

so the ccrc 40 is a monster on the xtra260??meaning it accelerates out of a hover..I was looking at the new MLD35 and the JC42cc.

I wont say its a monster but it will pull out of a hover from 1/2 throtle. If you are interested in building your own motor and seeing how the thing worls I would get one. The ignition is a little weak therefore I changed it to an RCEXL ignition. I have been told that the new ones have a batter ignition. For the money they are not bad.

It flyes very well and its fairly fast. Its a fun plane to fly and knife edges very well considering the small amount of rudder surface area. The rolls are slow even on high rates. I plan on taking her up in the AM.I am using a 15X12 APC prop.

Flew it today with a smile. It was windy(15-20mph) The plane is so sleek that it cuts through the wind with no problems. The only bad habit is that it flips over very easy even while taxing.I may want to move the landing gear forward.

I bought one 2 weekends ago that friday and cruched it that sunday flew great and it had a CRRC 40 engine on it. Fresh engine still and with time I do believe it will be a real beast. That is the nice thing about gas engines they seem too get better and better the more they get used. Wish I wouldn't have gave it the dumb thumb so i could still be flying it now I have too put one together. Hey Cloud you the guy on RCgroups I've been talking 2 about buying your Extra?

So I just sold my OS 1.60 for a song on the market, and ordered a brandy new DLE30 rear carb version from tower. Was $259 shipped with the super saver club discount and the free shipping. Should be here tomorrow or Friday....

I see above that I wont be a 3D monster, which is fine. I'm finally coming through on my wish to convert everything I fly to gas. However, from the posts here, my 260 is apparently abnormally light. It weighs in at 10.6 pounds ready to fly with an empty tank. The DLE30 is no heavier than the OS 1.60 was with the giant bisson pitts I had on it, so I am hoping for better than average performance.

For additional weight savings I am going to run a very small fuel tank nearer to the CG and use a single 2000mah 5 cell pack for both radio and ignition. I don't mind charging every few flights for the additional weight savings....

Looks like the DLE30 with rear carb has a 160mm spacing from mount to hub, the Seagull was set up for 150mm, I will probably just put a hole in the firewall for the carb and use 10mm shorter standoffs (home made probably) so I can use my existing cowl without redrilling, etc.

Once I have it set up I'll post some pics, and with any luck I'll have a test flight or two on the DLE30 by the end of the weekend.

Any suggestions on prop size for the DLE30 on this airframe?
