Default CMP Edge 540 T 50cc Balancing info

If you have A CMP 540 Edge T 50cc Plane you want to balance it 1 1/2 inch ahead of the first mark and it will fly with no problems not like the head ache i had for the first while.

You're right.

I flew mine at the second tick mark, and it was too tail heavy. I brought it down ASAP, lest the diminishing fuel make the plane unflyable!

However I now fly mine with the C.G. set about 1/4" in front of the first tick mark and I find this perfect.

It will fly either upright or inverted with NO elevator input, but does not feel tail heavy when the tank is empty.

It hovers pretty well too.

Once the C.G. is dialed in, it's a sweet flyer.

Mine came in under the advertized weight by about 1/2 lb.

I know you guys posted a year ago and I wished I read your adice. I almost dumped my Edge 540 yesterday because it was dangerously tail heavy. What size engine you guys using? I powered mine with a DA 50 and it had a ridiculous amount of power. I'm thinking about going down a notch to a spe 43.

Yup, isn't all that power grand though?

You could practically remove the wings and the thing would still fly if you could control it, with a 50CC.

I had contemplated putting a smaller engine on mine too, but if it flies well ( once you set your C.G. forward ), you could always adjust the throws to limit your top end a bit, or use a lower pitch prop.

This plane is very light for a 50CC though and I had given that engine some thought as well.
