Biplane "home" for my G26
Acquired a Zenoah G26 yesterday, really want to put it in a biplane. Looking for an ARF that's not too "sporty", from what I've seen the Nitroplanes Tiger Moth (yellow version) fits the bill - BUT, it looks like it might be a month (or two) before they go back in stock.
Anything else I could be looking at? I've read several threads on the Great Planes PT-17, folks seem to run hot/cold as to whether the G26 fits.
Would really prefer a WWI warbird if possible.
TIA
Jeff

WWII I have covered, as I already have a CMP F6 Hellcat with a YS 120 (could put the G26 on it, but it runs so nice now i hate to mess with it)

The PY-17 and Super Stearman http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXEUN2&P=0 are pretty much the same thing. There are a lot of people that fly the Super Stearman with 26cc engines.
I don't know of any other WWI biplanes arfs in the 26cc size. There is kind of a hole there. Hanger 9 has the two WWI biplanes that are perfect for a 20cc gasser.
Arizona Models has a real nice Tigermoth. It is a 120 size plane which means you can probably shoehorn that G26 in there.

GP PT-17 Stearman, or Super Stearman. I have one of the supers with a Saito 170 radial and it flies great. These planes need a bunch of weight in front to balance, so a gasser is a good choice. Use an 18 X 6 wood prop for best performance and scale looks.

OldFart1,
KMP has a really nice looking F8F Bearcat to keep that F6F Hellcat company.

Looked at the Super Stearman, also at the Skybolt. I'll have to check on that Pitts (although I'm leaning more towards "sedate" than "sporty")

How about a tweener. Tower Hobbie Curtis P6E. Discontinued but check you hobby stores.
Book said up to 23cc 4c, most of the ones I've seen had to add 8-14oz of lead to make it balance. Why add lead, justuse a bigger engine.

James - I'll try to hunt down that link at lunch (assuming I get lunch today - it's been Hell Week at LAX)
TKG - I've looked at the P6E - maybe do a search for that too
Thanks folks!

If you want an ARF, the GP Super Stearman is a nice one, the G-26 fits well in the cowl and has more than adequate power. The big advantage of the Super S over the PT-17 is being able to hide the engine, plus the ailerons on both wings make for better aerobatic performance.
If you can find one, the 1/5 Cox Waco ARF is also a good platform for the G-26, flies very nicely. I have several issues with scale lines and a few other things, but it fits the bill you're looking for.
If you want a kit or are willing to plans-build, the door really opens wider for WWI and Golden Age stuff that the Zenoah would be a great choice for.

Sadly, the older I get, the more ARF's are my weapon of choice. I think I've watched every Super Stearman/G26 video on the internet though by now
I've had a couple of responses in another forum that the Tiger Moth will be too light (and seriously overpowered) by the G26

It's no Bipe, but World Models and H9 both make a 1/4 scale j-3 cub that the G26 would go nicely into...Also a company called (I think) " RCGuys "who make a Citabria or Decathalon & also a C152 that that would also be a great match for. i coupla guys at my field have the 152 and it is an amazingly agile aerobat.
I used to have the GP PT17, and it would have been a wonderful match for that engine. Aeroworks also makes a cowled pt17 wich is a great fit for it.
lastly. A company just came out with a Fokker D.VII that accepts a 20-50Cc gas engine. I saw it at the toledo show 9plane was all red) and saw it again in an RC magazine recently, but I can't remember the manufacturer.[8D]

Hmm, food for thought. I can get the GP PT-17 (actually like it a bit better than the Super), but from the thread I was reading the bottom of the cowl needs to be cut a bunch. I'll also hunt for that Fokker D.VII
Haven't given up on the 120 Tiger Moth either - but still have at least a month and a half until it's back available - plenty of time to research options.

As already recommended, the 25% Cermark Pitts is really nice and should be a good fit for the 26 cc. I have one with a 120 AX and it is a very good flyer. They look great in the air also. I have smoke on mine and it is real crowd pleaser. More important, it pleases me. Good luck with you choice. Bipes are cool!

Here's a pic of my Pacific Aero Models 120 size Tiger Moth (Green Models now manufactures this plan and it's distributed by Hobby Lobby (red & silver version).
This plane has the FPE 21cc gas engine w/ factory pitts muff. cowl openings were surprisingly limited, the 26 cc would eat-up the cowl in a hurry though.
Here's a pic or two.

OldFart1,
The [link=http://www.rcwarbirds.com/Kit_Reviews/WM%20P-47/WM%20P-47%20Review.html]World Models P-47[/link] ARF with retracts would be a good choice for the 26cc as well. I looked at this one a while back myself.

Mike - that Monocoupe is _almost_ got me thinking high wing.
Brewski - Pitts is on the "later" list, I have a few sporty biplanes now.
NoFlaps - that color scheme has always been my favorite Tiger Moth - wish I could still find it. I was toying with the idea of painting the yellow Nitroplanes Tiger Moth to match.
It sounds like I might not be able to fit the G26 in there without hacking the cowl unacceptably - do you have any close ups of the engine/cowl area of yours?
Thanks to all - if you ever come through LAX I owe you a beer!
