*Mac Hodges B-29 Crash Video 2008*
Yesterday at the Annual Fly-in in Henderson KY. Mac Hodges B-29 Bomber went in. From what we heard in the pits the wing bolts, pins, or whatever held the right wing on was not installed prier to take-off. If you watch the video just as Mac is coming out ot his flat spin you can see the right wing sliding off the wing tubes. I'm sure Mac will be back next year with another B-29 to wow the crowd as he always has.

Mac said he didn't install the bolts himself after the crash. We have all made mistakes like this sometime. it was a sad day for the RC world, Mac's B-29 was known all around the world. For Mac and the team they lost a plane just a week or so after loosing a great friend that helped build and fly it for years. i hope they build another one soon and keep the tradition going because this is what the hobby is all about, great friends, flying, and planes.

It was, in fact the wing bolts. Mac told me as much as we were going to retrieve the airplane. Also, you can clearly see the wing separating in the pictures:[link=http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=923872#post10545841]B-29 Crash pictures[/link]

I doubt they will rebuild. Pretty sure I read on here, that once this one is gone, there will be no more. Things can change though, who knows.

I haven't watched alot of video of this plane fly, but what I have is amazing ! If fullscale B-29's flew like that we wouldn't have even needed fighters !

Thats ashame. That plane put on a real good show. He could swing that thing around in a tight circle and bring it right onto the runway. Not to mention all the other cool stuff. The inverted low runway pass was insane. Makes me feel like a loser I cant even bring my 7lb plane 50ft from the ground inverted.

I don't think Bill Hemple could have saved this one. It's something to see this happen in front of you while your trying to video another great flight by Mac. I have a long version of this video showing Mac after the crash and the thoughts that go through ones mind when something like this happens. I'm sure Mac will be back with something to please the crowd.

It really is amazing some people will work so hard to put on great flying shows ! I have a friend that used to travel the nation doing Ducted fan competitions and demos, I have helped him locally before..and believe me its work.

SigMan,
If you ever see Mac Hodges fly his B-29 bomber he does his manuvers out a good ways but you never know what will happen and that goes for any plane, even a trainer. If you notice in the video the plane went pretty much straight down and it was way out from the crowd. Just a shame that it went in.

You MUST be joking with that statement. I have seen Mac fly it and to say he is in control is an understatment. It is always amazing how well he performs.
We all crash at times, people like Mac and others that spend their time and money to promote this hobby should be given our thanks not our Sunday morning quarter backing.
Mac, I hope you continue with another plane and spend many more years wowing the crowds and promoting the hobby. I for one thank you.

BTW, I heard today that Mac has already had an offer from someone to build a new one. Not sure who the builder is, but I do know that Mac has an extra set of foam cores that were cut when this one was built.

I have talked to Mac every year he comes down there. He never does anything stupid close to the crowd or down low. He is a VERY experienced pilot that coud outfly just about anyone that you could come across. Leave him alone. He has to deal with the crash, losing his buddy that built the plane and flew the rocket a few times just a few weeks before that, and all the bad publicity that it will get.

No your not suppose to fly a B-29 like a 3-D profile plane but I sure am glad Mr Hodges is able to. The videos are impressive but seeing is something else.Incredible plane and show.
If you would like to read the history [link]http://www.hodgeshobbies.com/B29%20History.htm[/link]
Has anyone seen Mac fly his old cessna 310? I heard it was just as cool.
