There are half a dozen in my club with OS FS91's. They seem to do great.

I flew my Kadet Senior with a Saito 80, and was very happy with it. I would go along with a 91 four-stroke, but I can't imagine why anyone would want a bigger engine than that on what is supposed to be a sedate and well-behaved trainer. If you want something hotter, get a Decathlon or Citabria or something of that ilk.

I put an OS 61FX on mine, haven't flown it yet, but with a plane this size, you need some power..

Big 4-stroke? A .91 will fly the Senior just fine. I saw one do all the same stuff with a .52 4-stroke. (or was it an old .48, same difference...)

You could put a Saito 1.80 on it, I suppose, but why? Not really a platform for racing or aerobatics. It would sound neat, tho.

Good luck!

I use a .70 Four Stroke.

The Kadet is so light and the wing so big that u really don't need a large engine. A .40 will fly it.

A friend of mine from years back had a OS .91 4 stroke
on a Kadet sr . (built up not the ARF).

Trying to land that plane was nearly impossible with the motor running.

He would fly at idle, therefore I would suggest something
considerably smaller.

Flys fine with a .40, though it could use more power on hot days. Don't see any reason to go with more than a .46 two stroke, or .70 four stroke. You can't really 3D one of these even with that much power. I consider mine heavy at 6 and a half pounds.

I too, have seen a perfect match with the OS 70 Surpass and the Saito 72.
You need the extra "bump" to overcome a grass field that may need mowing.
A 40 will not ever get you over and up on a other than asphalt/cement runway.

I flew my Senior Kadet with an HP VT.49 four-stroke. It took a little longer to get off the ground than I liked, but it was probably about normal.

I have flown Senior Kadets with a Saito .91 and a K&B .65. None was really over powered, but all were throttled back considerably once airborne, even mine with the HP four-stroke.

Cincyquake you are not listening (reading)!!!
Do Not Put a 1.20 on a Kadet Sr.!!
I like to bash Kadet Sr's and the one I'm presently flying weighs in at about 9 lbs ready to fly, is powered by a Saito .91, and it is perfect!
The one before this one weighed about the same and flew with a Mecoa .46 and this setup was great too.

I had Williams Bros. 4 inch (narrow) wheels on mine and it would take off from my backyard with a O.S. 40F. It flew like a big kite.

You know, I was thinking. You might as well go for the Saito 150 or 180. They will fit fine, and when you shread the Kadet you'll still have an engine that is more versatile than the 120.

I see some heavy Kadet's here! They shouldn't weigh more than 7 pounds even with a .60 2 stroke or .91 four stroke. The largest engine I would consider is a K&B 2 stroke, it is almost as light as a .46 and more low speed power for a 12-6 prop. Or maybe a .70 sized four stroke. Built light it will climb out steep with a powerfull .46.

I flew one of mine on a .35 sized electric. A large engine is not required, in my opinion.

Yup, a 1.20 should do it. Should be a blast to fly - until the wings fold.

It depends on who you ask. In my opinion, yes. Others will disagree.

In the end, it's your model. Do what pleases you, and don't worry about what others think.

The .70 - .91 is all you should consider for the ARF version. ARF's are not known for epoxy and reinforcement where it's needed. This plane is a trainer, a non-symmetrical wing, with incredible lift with the wing area it has.
If you had a specific purpose to increase engine size over a .91, you'd want to make modifications to the firewall, bulkheads, wing joiners, and keep your prop pitch down.

The only reason to use such an engine would be to pull a heavy load. You would have to put a bout 60 degrees down thrust to keep it from looping eveytime you even touch the throttle stick. Heck I thought a 46 was too much because it needed almost 10 degrees of down thrust!

I'm going to build my Kadet Senior (kit) with a Saito .62 in the nose. That should be a near-perfect match of airframe and power plant. I'll never understand why some people feel the need to grossly over-power such a lovely airplane.
