ArrowNaughtic;

Here are a few pics of my setup!! Hope this help!! On the canopy, mines was okay. I did use glass cleaner to make it clear!! Let me know if you need pictures of the wings. Good luck with maiden flight. It will not be long before the rain come to the Great Northwest. I have to find something to build for the winter!!

Thanks Sonny! Those really do help a huge amount! I am waiting to take pics until the final assembly is done. The only part I am not installing is the Fake radial motor until after the maiden flights. I also have to change the position of the electric motor. Its not centered out the cowl. Actually off by quite a bit. I built my motor mount box centered on the firewall but didn't take into account the angle and downthrust built into the firewall itself. I just have to move the electric motor's X mount up and over a bit as well as rotate the mount itself 45 degrees so i get good bite in the 3/16ths ply used. This plane is really starting to look great and with the decals placed it will be a finished product for testing. I still have to go buy a CC 80A ESC and the battery arming switch. Weather has completely dropped out here (high winds and rain forecast) so I am not in any rush again to get this finished............ well until this coming weekend.
The flight museum has a demo coming up on Nov 8th at Boeing airfield and bringing planes in for display gets you two free tickets to the event. I will be taking the AT6 in for display as well as my 3DHS Sukhoi SU26. It is a scale replica of Scott Stoops actual Sukhoi and I am pretty sure will be "unique". I don't see any other flyers in our club besides my flying buddy and myself who own any of these. You should plan on attending if possible, it would be great to meet you and swap some lies.

Thanks again Sonny........ those pics really are quite clear and I can actually read some of the small print decals for proper placement!

if you don't install the radial just make sure you've got the right cofg on her. mine was the kit form but i really needed nose weight and couldn't fly until that was installed. have a great flight!

Swixt....... I only had to add one oz of lead to the cowl to make this plane balance inverted with the LG up. This was at the manuals recommended 4 1/4 in from leading edge at the wing joiners. I am hoping that will be sufficient unless others have experienced a better starting point for maidening this. I think I remember reading that some had better luck with starting at 4" rather than the 4 1/4". A nose heavy plane will fly.........tail heavy and with my skills would most certainly spell disater......... or at the least......some serious pucker factor!
With mine being an electric conversion, I am not sure if the rules of CG change much, if at all. I usually balance most of my planes for slightly nose heavy flight and have good luck with them except for landing. I am really hard on landing gear and have actually designed some more robust gear for a couple of my planes. Grass fields do have advantages and disadvantages...... my luck leans heavily towards the disadvantage side.

ArrowNaughtic;

Thanks for the info on Boeing Flight Musenum Demo. Now if my back will let me make the drive up I-5, I hope to be there with my AT-6 Texan. I have two bad disc in my lower back, so long drive hurt. If I can make, I will be there to swap lies with you!! lol
I am glad the pics help and you will love this plane. I hope the weather is good this weekend so I can fly my AT-6 before I have to put it to bed for the winter!!!

Have a great week!!

Ok........... so I have been dragging this ARF build on forever it seems but am finally finishing it up today. I ended up going with a Reaper Brushless .60 sized motor (GR-60) paired with a CC Pheonix Ice Lite 75A ESC and will start with a Thunderpower 4S 3850 mAh lipo. Only 7 servos required (5 in the wing and 2 in the fuse) 2 aileron, 2 flaps and 1 retract as well as rudder and elevator servos. Looks like the weather is going to be mild today so may get a chance to taxi test it out in front of the house. Heres some pics of the fuse and will take pics of the finished plane during taxi testing.

So I'm intrested in this Top Flite AT-6. What's the good and bad about it such as, quality, performance, ground handling, defects, stall's etc...

ArrowNaughtic, is that the new kit color instead of the red and yellow, or did you re-cover it?

Mom Mistake;

Just read this thread. You will find all the pro's and con's of this plane. This airpalne is a joy to fly and you will find you will fly this one more the the other you have in your hangar.

I have taken my new Topflite AT-6 Texan out to play twice now without great sucess. On the maiden outing, one of the retracts broke on the first landing resulting in a skinned up wing. The landing was very gentle even a poor quality retract should not have broken. I contacted Tower Hobby and they referred me to another group for a replacement. It took about three weeks but I did receive a replacement retract. On the second outing, the retracts held up well on landing but one of the retracts partially collapsed on take-off. I am at a point where I am going to replace the stock retracts. I think I will try some Lardo electric retracts on this plane. The retracts suck but the plane is very nice. Mine flies very well and lands quite slow with the flaps extended. I am sure that I will enjoy the plane when I get the retract situation resolved.

Best wishes and good safe flying.

Heli-NuBee;

TomTreese make a set of metal gear box that work very good on the AT-6 Texan. Look on page 15 of this thread and you will see the boxes. I have a set on my Texan and I just love them. There are a other people on this thread that have them also. Just send him a PM and he will let you know how many he have in-stock.

Heli-NuBee,

Check out post #367. I have a set right now. I now have over 50 landings with mine and 15 happy users of this modification.

It's a lot less expensive, $30, and easier to install , about 15 minutes, than any other fix.

Email me and I can send you a set.

I was looking at the Top Flite P-51 60 ARF thread and the same thing is happening to that gearbox???? I'm not sure this box would fit but it would be very easy to make one that would. Same for the new P-47.

bucho;

I think I saw back in the thread that some use a Saito 1.25 on their Texan. If not, than go for it and use the 1.25!! You will love this bird!!!

a friend of mine did the made fly of this bird with an os 110 and it flew beattifull, and he have to add some weigth on the nouse to balance , that is the reason I think the saito 125 will do a great job on this bird....

Bucho

The Saito 125 is a great engine and is the lightest engine in this class. About the same weight as the OS 91 Surpass. It's a lot more power than you need. The AT-6 flys scale at 1/2 throttle on the 91. But if you already have the engine, go for it.

Check post #367. The only weak part of this plane are the retract boxes. They will break!!!!

Tom; tnks for your coments, I know about the retract problems of this bird, I also have the TF ARF P-51 and the same problem... wich retracts are you using to resolve this problemk?

the saito 125 is rigth now in a hangar 9 p47 arf but it is 5 year old and I think it is time to do something else with this engine.

Check post #367 on page 15 of this thread. The reinforcement boxes have worked perfectly for 16 AT-6 owners.

Although I have not maidened my AT 6 yet, I did buy the retract reinforcement boxes from Tom. They fit perfectly and obviously will do the job. Well thought out and easy to install. Worth every penny for the peace of mind. Not to mention Tom is a stand up guy and shipped mine right away. Good instructions included with too.
Sounds like the P 51 guys could use your fix too Tom!
