I a NIB SP 120 arf, if anyone is interested I'll take $200 LPU if you want it shipped, thats on you. I'm not sure how much shipping would be,but the gray bus would be cheapest I bet.

G'day All,
In finally flew my Spacewalker today, the Saito FG 21 performed beautifully, I have a 10oz Dubro tank in it, & I had 3 good 10 minute flights, & I still had fuel
left in the tank, no I didn't refuel after each flight, I'm running an APC 16x6 to run it in.
It flys nicely at half throttle, so the FG 21 has plenty of power.
I did find the throws were a bit slow, even at the so called aerobatic settings, so will increase aileron throw next time.
It easily flew inverted circuits, & most of the Gold wings schedule, I'm very happy with it.

Is the FG-21 easy to hand start? I made a mistake when powering my SW and used a Zenoah G-26 because I had it available with a result that it required 4.5 oz of tail weight added. That means that the total plane weight is likely at least 12oz heavier than it should be. I'm thinking of re-powering with something lighter but doing so would require a new cowl. The plane flies OK at its current weight, but landings indicate it heavier than it needs to be.

I am using a DLE20 on mine and it has lots of power... I think it is the perfect motor..

I suspect that the DLE 20 exceeds the performance as the Zenoah G-26 when considering power to weight ratio. Do you know how much your plane weighs?

I'm thinking of pulling the G-26 off mine and with it hopefully the 4.5 oz of lead added to the tail. I have the cowl off and was inspecting it for suitability of using an Evolution 20GX that I've on hand. It has a pitts muffler that would require about an inch square bottom fire wall relief but that wouldn't be any big shake. The only real issue would be I'd need a new cowl.

The G-26 total weight is 52.4 oz and the 20GX is 33.6 so with that plus removing the 4.5 oz tail weight is 1.5 lbs difference. Of course what I don't know, is if I'd then need any nose weight. From my experience, 4.5 oz of tail weight is the most I've ever had to add to the tail of a plane.

What about the DLE-20 installation, did you have to add weight anywhere or did positioning batteries do the job? I wouldn't care about a lot of vertical performance as a Spacewalker has generous wing area and is for me desired to be a Sunday flier with light landings instead of war bird landings and I'd spend the $30 bucks for a new cowl to make that change.

Also, I robbed the G-26 that was intended to go in a Great Planes Super Stearman (on the shelf) that is reported to need the nose weight and would like to build it up in the next year or so.

I haven't tried to hand start it yet, just a quick spin with my small geared starter & she's away & singing.
I have not weighed the Spacewalker yet, but it flys light, in other words it lands super slow, so it's not overweight.
I'm using 3 x 1300Mah 6.4volt LiFe battery packs, 2 for the RX & servos, & 1 for the ignition.
I have 2 batteries under the servos, see pix & the other just under the RX.

Thanks for the report... it is what I needed to hear. Your setup is very similar to mine with 3x1300 LiFe at same locations. The exception is my engine total weight is 52.3 oz and has required adding 4.5 oz at the tail. You have kicked me off the fence... I'm swapping engines to the Evolution 20GX I've on hand, which weighs about the same as your engine. Hopefully the SW can be lightened by 24 oz and escape the feel of landing a war bird.

I just finished bench running the Evo to insure it is running well and I'm happy with it. I did not have a benchmark APC 16x6 drilled for the right diameter but used a Vess 16x6 which yielded static 8500 rpm and think it will work ok.

I'll report back the comparison flight report once it gets flown.

About half way there on the engine replacement from Zenoah G-26 to Evolution 20GX. First effort was to say good bye to the tail weight. Have the mount set and the cut out relief for the muffler framed and glue on filler pieces setting now.

Anticipate flight envelope will be worth the effort.

My space walker Weighed 13 pounds. The DLE 20cc I have on it would pull about 13 pounds on a cheap fish scale

Thanks for the weight report.

Just balanced and weighed mine following the engine change. Weight is 12 lbs 4 oz and it balanced by moving the batteries slightly forward from where they had been placed. The ignition battery was moved from under the RX to over the gear, and one of the flight batteries to where the ignition battery was and the last stayed under the back of the RX platform. No longer have any weight added for balancing. Weight before the change was 13lbs 12oz so was lightened by 24oz.

Looking forward to flying it.... perhaps tomorrow.

I had the field to myself this afternoon to get several flights in with the Spacewalker following its weight loss. First observation is that the performance of the Spacewalker didn't change much. The greater power of the Zenoah G-26 was consumed by the extra weight.

The second is that the plane flew much more on the wing, getting airborne easily and making landings different and better.


The third is the more tolerable noise level of the engine.

My Seagull Spacewalker 120 is powered with a Mintor 22 cc gas engine. This engine has a lot of power - 8900 rpm with Falcon 17 x 6.5 prop. I think it is perfect match for this model.

Seems that I have some bad news for you Space Walker II ( .120 ) size lovers.

I purchased a new OS GT 22 with the idea of mating it to a Space Walker as one of my winter projects. Well, after a great deal of searching which included England, Australia, Ireland, South Africa, etc., I could not find anybody that would ship one internationally. It also seems like the USA distributor has stopped importing them.

With a great deal of luck and non stop searching, I finally located one at a hobby shop here in the USA. Needless to say, I did an immediate purchase.

Thus, I hope that if any of you hobbyists know of any more Space Walkers .120 size that are available, kindly share your finds. That is, unless you want to keep one for yourself.

But now I also have the Christen Eagle which I will most likely power with my DLE-20. These are all winter project, thus I better get started before winter is over with.

Just finishing my Space Walker II 120 at present. Will post pics of the mods and where I put gear once I have finished sorting it out. Trying to move the 3 batteries as far back as possible as she is really nose heavy.
Bought a OS 33GT at the same time as I bought the plane. Should have heaps of power for it.

Have you noticed any weak trailing edge sheeting, next to the ailerons, inboard of them ?
Just picked up the wing of my new Spacewalker and while having a hold of it, near the trailing edge, heard and felt a slight crack. May have to open it up some how and get some glue in there.

I have not really noticed the Space walker being to bad. Wood is very light. My PT19 120 has extremley soft wood and I have put my thumb through a couple of times in different areas.

I have nearly finished my space walker now. I took some photos tonight of some of the things I modified.

I did not like the cream colour landing gear so pained it red. I also changed the fairing bolts and added nylock nuts.

Also bolted spats on with 2mm socket heab and blind nuts.

I put a OS 33GT in and had to cut a section of the firewall out at the bottom to fit the pitts that came with the engine.

Also opened up the hole in the fire wall for clear passe to the carby for easy breathing.

I use nylon rods for the trottle but have the inner and outter locked together to act as a solid rod.

Also Drilled the muffler bolts so could use wire to double secure them.

Mad a chocke leaver and have cut a smallish hole in from of cowl to activate. As I can't get my finger in the hole I have made a tool to use to pull it on or off. will take photo of that latter.

I moved the fuel tank closer to the CofG, The tank is actually out of a H9 P47D-1 that I am am also building as a project.

Caus you need to get to the Wing bolts I made the tank so it can pivot up so makes it easy to do the wing bolts.

The evolution optical kill switch is velcro to the bottom of the tank bracket.

I used a 3 line tank. Engine fuel line is larger than breather and fill line.

Mounted a fill line on top of fuse.
