Default Hobby People Shipping Scam

Go to Hobbypeople.net to see the scam for yourself.............they advertise Free Shipping on all orders over $25.............reading the fine print excludes overseas orders and oversize orders over 30lbs (actual or dimensional)...........what ever that means?
I just received a 6lb 4oz plane in a box 34"X8"X13" and was charged $19.99 shipping.
I called to ask why and they said it was oversize???????

What a rip-off...........their ethics on this type of bait and switch scam is beyond belief....

I urge all of you that care to call a spade a spade not to buy anything from a company that uses these tactics to get people to make a purchase.
I sure won't be getting any more of my RC stuff from the fakes.................

HAHA boy did they trick you. Just kidding. Did you not know what the shipping was going to be when you placed the order?

Generally airplanes and big, heavy things don't qualify for free shipping from anywhere. Advantage hobby does the same thing. You got your plane, now when you need an engine, a servo, a battery, you won't have to pay shipping. Believe me, free shipping for over $25 is a very, very good deal.

I spend a lot of money (more than hundreds) on RC stuff every year.........and I guarantee Hobby People won't be see a penny of it............

Sure Free Shipping is a good deal............sometimes I get planes shipped free from RCGuys.........Tower Hobbies.............Hobby-Lobby

I read the disclaimer and knew I wasn't going to be anywhere near 30lbs.......Bingo....FREE SHIPPING.................Not.........Hobby People is running a scam.
Plain and Simple.........

Your box was 96" for shipping purposes, and 84" is the limit before it goes to "oversise".

I just added a common 40 size plane to the shopping cart. It shows right away that an oversize charge will be added, MINUS the $4.99 they give to everyone else.

I think it was just an unfortunate misunderstanding on your part and calling Hobby People scam artists is unfair imho.

I thought it was girth + length, which in this case is only 76 inches.

Good grief. If a consumer doesn't understand a shipping policy or makes assumptions about it that turn out to be wrong, who's fault is that? It never hurts to call and ask for clarification.

I once bought a Top Flite Cessna 310 ARF from www.WholesalePlanes.com and they advertised 'free shipping on orders over $150", and guess what.... The shipping was free!! Despite the fact that this was truly an oversized box. A lot of times, the free shipping makes the difference between buying and not buying a particular kit. Especially if it's a large kit and I know the shipping will be expensive ordinarily.

I purchased a 92" ASM A-26 from Hobby People right before christmas and the shipping was free. They must have changed.

I like Hobby People but I have to tell you I would have been 100% fooled as well .
I look at the ad , then I go straight to the plane and think wow -$169 to my door , that is great !!!
I know , my fault but in the food industry the fine print leagally needs to be 50% of the main statement , non food ads do not have to comply
Example -Cheese Flavored means fake cheese , and the flavor can not be any less then 50% of the word Cheese !!!
So this ad is very cheesy

I just recieved my Magnum .46 XLS from Hobbypeople. Free shipping, no problems, but I can see where the confusion would be with planes and larger items.

Looks like they changed their policy. I got a BH T-28 from them about a month ago, for totally free shipping, and it was only $139 to boot. I just went to their website and put the same plane in my cart and it showed the $19.99 shipping charge immediately. The free standard shipping of $4.99 is taken off the price of the plane, so the net is $15 for shipping. Not bad, but it does figure into the price of my purchases from them now. Too bad for them. I got one of the Phase 3 F-16s while they were on sale. Came with free shipping. That was in December. I really don't think HobbyPeople is out to 'scam' anyone either. Their prices are very good and think they are doing the hobby a good service. This word is unfairly way overused IMO.

I really don't know how you could miss the "certain restrictions apply - details here" link that is right under the free shipping add. You click on it, and it says "this program excludes oversize items".

How the heck can you possibly call this a scam???

This is not fair to Hobby People. I have nothing but good experiences in ordering from them and they do not deserve to be bashed because someone missed the not-so-fine print.

As soon as you add an oversize item to the shopping cart, the cart is displayed and the shipping charge is plainly displayed.

Sorry you did not review your oder before you submitted it, but, HP did not do anything wrong.

Sh**t fellas..........scuse me for not measuring up........the fine print says 30 pounds.
How come you eagle eyes can't see that...........that is the heart of the SCAM. Most folks will see the 30lbs and KNOW the order is way under that.

No, I don't know what a dimensional weight is..............in the world of RC, this plane is in a little box..........I've ordered airplane accessories that come in a bigger box and received FREE SHIPPING.

It is a SCAM designed to suck you in.........Go to the site........read the exclusion......

A 6lb 4oz airplane in a 34"X8"X13" box certainly would not register to most of us as oversized.

A spade is a spade........

For the nay sayers.........order all you want from them.....
For everyone else........watch your shipping charges.........your eyes are not playing tricks on you......Hobby People IS......

My point is that the 19.99 shipping charge is clearly shown as soon as you put the item in the shopping cart.

That is before you put in your name or payment information.

If the charge was not clearly shown in the shopping cart, before you put in your info, I would agree that it is a scam.

It would be a scam if they didnt tell you they were about to add $19 shipping charge for oversized item.

No, I don't know what a dimensional weight is..............

Forgive me... I shouldn't post....but it clearly does say dimensional weight....

I understand that you didn't know...but that does not make it a Scam.

a few minutes on the USPS or the UPS site would quickly define dimensional.

I do understand your frustration, but a scam it is not.....

I got to agree with the others, not a scam. Lesson here is to review the order when doing it online, their web site is alot better than some others. Does look like they have changed rules since Dec on shipping policy, but the order review clearly shows what the total charges will be.
