Phaeton 90 bi plane
I know this isn't an arf but picked one up at a swap meet wonder if anyone knows much about this plane. I have a 120 magnum 4ST for her and not sure yet what servos I'll go with so any help would be nice.

RE: Phaeton 90 bi plane
This plane is already built. I have been flying my Tiger 2 and U-Can, I just love the bipes and thought this would be a good first bipe, rather than jump on the ultimate. I found the cg info but no info on what servos to use. She's a big bird so not sure if standard servos will work or not. There is not alot of info out there on this plane so if anyone can point me in right direction.

RE: Phaeton 90 bi plane
I think I'll go with same thing I have on U-Can-Do hitec 635's. They seem to be working ok but I have them on 6V. As Minnflyer said she's not a wild bird so putting around is what I'll be doing. It's been hard to get much info on this plane, but I like having planes no one else has at the field. The U-Can is ugly, so I'm only one has it at our field, but fly's like a dream slow and easy, my thumbs can keep up. I hope this girl will do the same.

There are two BUSA Phaetons and they have been around a few years. There have been build threads on here. A lot of people know what they are when they see them.
There's also modifications talked about like making the airfoils thinner etc.
You will enjoy it as a fly around sport plane when you have a biplane urge.

RE: Phaeton 90 bi plane
I have been flying my Phaeton 90 since 1999. I have a 25cc gas weedie engine on it. It's not a fast or quick plane, no matter how you power it. The airfoil is relatively thick, so it's not going anywhere in a hurry. It is a wonderful plane to fly. My servos are just a bit more than standard, around 60-70 ounces and not terribly fast. I'm sure standard servos would be fine, but Hitec 475's are a good economical choice. I am currently in the process of refurbishing, recovering and painting mine, and I will likely put the 475's in with a 5 cell battery, now that I've talked myself into it.
Enjoy your Phaeton, it's a good one.

RE: Phaeton 90 bi plane
Thanks Jim, w8ye sent me on the right track. I'm going to do a few mods to it, instead of one aileron servo I'm going with two, after reading seems several ppl have standard servos, so I'll do same. This plane came at a very good deal covering in excellent shape plane doesn't look to have been flown much at all. It has the standard landing gear and is in good shape, so looks like I got me a good one. I hope she flys as good as she looks.

RE: Phaeton 90 bi plane
I have one. I built her from a kit 4 years ago and she flys just about as nice as a trainer. I am using a TT .91 4st in mine. She doesn't have an over abundance of power but flys very scale like and sounds great. So a 120 4st should work great. I am using Hitec 425BBs; all around. No trouble whatsoever.
I ditched the wire landing gear after the first few flights as I found them to soft. I made a set out of Great Planes 90 size Dural aluminum gear. I trimmed about 1/3 off and fit them to the bipe. No more gear bending problems.
I also tossed the N struts and made my own quick release struts. I used spruce pushrods with Robart pinned hinges sunk into blocks glued into the wings. Then I used Sullivan quick release ball links to attach the bottm wing to the top.
I have attached a few pics of mine. It initially started off with a GMS.76 2 st but got swapped out with the TT .91 4st for sound and scale realism.
Enjoy

I may look into the gear change also. The way it's set up I have to tear out servo mount for throttle to get tank out, which I need to do to change fuel lines and check what size tank is and so forth. I'm in process of finishing up a giant super sportster so in no big hurry. I'm just glad to finally find a few of you guys with this plane.

Great looking planes. You should just send me that Hog, If I had to cover plane I might try the wing attachment you have, set up would be alot easier.

I also made a hatch on the top front of the fuse to access the tank. I am running dual servos on the bottom wing for ailerons. The wing struts take about 5 seconds to disconnect, then they just lay down flat for transporting. One heck of a lot easier than the N struts that the kit called for.
The Hog Bipe belongs to my younger brother. It is a fantastic flying plane. He is powering it with a GMS .76 2st and he flys the snot out of it. He can even hover with the Hog. I was so impressed, that I have one on the build now also. I will probably put a Magnum .91 2st in mine when it gets done.
Cheers
