Whatever it is, it's fun.
I agree 100% Anyway, I chose other. To me its a Hobby, when I'm fixing, building, or just having fun out at the field. To others who compete, its more like a sport for them. When your just out at the field its not a competition, its just a bunch of guys getting together & flying. Sport or Hobby, either way its something that we all enjoy doing. I all depends on how you want to view it.

Just my 2 cents,

TF96

For me personally, the hobby part is building models from kits or plans. Flying is the sport part of it. If flying doesn't fit sport's definition, then fishing or hunting can't be considered sports, either! I'll leave the contentious topic of assembling ARFs alone, and remind everyone that these are only my definitions of what things are. If you think the definitions are different, I'm just fine with that!

It's both. The hobby is the building. The sport is the flying. For me it's not a competition sport. But neither is fishing.

I go jogging, but don't consider myself to be part of a sport. Same as I go flying. I do it because I like to. I know there are rules, but these are mostly for safety and to prevent loss of peoples planes.
I think rc flying can be a sport when people fly competitively, but I don't. I fly because its fun and don't care if others are there or not. Tho it can be more enjoyable when there is a peanut gallery in attendance

How can it be a sport when you buy your planes at a HOBBY SHOP???
Why does it need a title?? Sport, hobby.....who cares, its a day away from work to have fun.

I picked Other. It's a hobby for most of us, but their is a side of it on the Sport Side... that's why some have endorsements from Futaba, JR and etc. I'm just waiting to see a guy with the JR " Red shirt " or Futaba shirt on a cover of a Wheaties box.

Like others said, it can be both. However, to me , at age 64 and only a recent rc pilot ['07], it's a hobby. I do this to relax, have fun and associate with people I otherwise might not have met. I am having so much fun with this, that it's probably regarded illegal in some quarters and wish that I had discovered RC planes years ago!! As in my other hobby [photography] , I like to figure out the technical aspects associated with getting these critters to fly and not hopefully crash.

It's a compulsion. To me a hobby that I treasure. Flying is in the clubmates ragging on each other in fun - building is puzzle solving - neither to me is a sport.

For me, it's a hobby, but I definitely think if you're competing in pattern, IMAC, or 3D-type contents, it's a sport. I voted hobby...

If hunting or fishing or shooting are sports than flying is a sport

It's a hobby. I hesitate to call it a sport because people will compete with anything. Including belt sanders.
