That is awesome .. Just ordered the Airplane yesterday from towerhobbies should be here by next week. I also back ordered a DLE 20RA .. I elected to go with the RA because of the looks of the included pitts style muffler. I will be using 6 HV Hitec HS-5496 servos for all flight surfaces and one 5495 for throttle. Receiver battery will be Fromeco 2600mAh Li-ion battery, 12 oz fortitude tank and Tech Aero IBEC as a kill switch. Thanks to all people who helped me make up my mind and decide to go with a DLE 20 and everyone else who provided pictures and input to my questions you guys are best

I really like this plane. I'm mostly into big warbirds and aerobats, I bought the Cessna because I had built the kit version years ago and remember liking the way it flew. The arf is no different, flies great. I always have it with me as my go to plane when my warbirds are acting up. I've got some great on board video I took with my go pro I've got to figure out how to post. Your really going to enjoy it. I'm planning on putting floats on mine this summer.
That is great to hear. I am excited about this plane, anyone who I had asked said nothing but positive about the plane.
You might wanna post the videos on YouTube then share the links here that would be the easiest way to do it. It is not that hard to do, it just ask you for the file on the computer and all you have to do is choose the file and it will upload for couple hours depending on the length and quality of the video and it will let you know whenever it is done. What floats are you gonna put on them? Is it something you built or is there anyone who makes them specifically for this cessna? I imagine it would be gorgeous with the floats !!

I also bought this ARF recently and will be installing retracts I've developed for Cessnas. Currently I have a set in the C-337 and a scratch build of a C-182rg that is roughly the same size as the TF C-182 (Kit or ARF).
The main gear mounting blocks in the TF version has been removed so far.

I have been reading the manual and it seems there is a switch for the lighting system. It seems like you have to turn it on before flying or so I assume. Did anyone here try to use a channel for it instead of the included switch? how do you do it and what extra hardware do you need for that?

I will definitely keep an eye on them .. This airplane would be awesome with floats!

How do you guys go about the 3 inches aluminum spinner with the larger props? I have a 14x10 for break in and 17x6 for later, the 17x6 doesn't fit so what solutions did you come up with?

AW,
It looks like you have a gasser no idea why you are using a breakin prop that is a higher load that the one that you plan to use. Not familiar with that engine other than a 20CC Gas engine so that is a 1.20 Cid and the props you propose to use seem to be too much load for that engine.
Do you have some one advising you or are you getting this off the internet?
I would think a 15x6 might be suitable to start with. I'm pretty sure the 17" will not clear the ground.
So once you put a sanity check on which prop you want to use then figure out if it will fit the spinner if it won't then you will need some files and a high point prop balancer and away you go.

Hey Sparky thank you for the input.
I am getting my information from previous experience with gassers and from the manuals of the engines.
Usually you break-in the engine by using a prop with lighter load but higher pitch. What this does is increase rpm to max while using a small diameter for the engine. And here where the 14x10 comes in play. And then the manual of the dle 20 suggest a range for up to 17x6. I thought I would just go with it to get best performance out of the engine, however if you think it will not clear the ground then I shall check with the plane today once I get home. And thank you for the advise with the spinner I will see what I will do about it.

Im pretty sure a 14x10 has a higher load than a 17x6 or about the same. I should think a 14X6 would be a more suitable propeller. this isn't a terribly powerful engine use you tach to see that you are below what ever the MFG suggest as max RPM.
Frankly I wouldn't think too hard about a break in on a Gas engine in a low performance airplane.

Here's a snapshot of how I used the Robarts strut in the nose pant. I drilled out the hole, and inside added a block on each side of the strut to support it with a layer of fiberglass. I then sanded the outer pant, and primed, then painted the pant.
The only thing about this strut, is that it can't stand an nose gear impact landing. It will bend. Otherwise it looks good.

"Fellas, I've built two of these planes and the easiest way to solve the weak firewall mount and forward and aft issues is this...
If you take note of the recess in the bottom of the firewall and the way the stock coil spring sits in there, you will notice that the spring coil will touch the firewall when minimal forward pressure is applied, that in turn supports the nose gear shaft and makes it actually quite forgiving on the rough landings. If you install the Robart gear just epoxy a block into that recess and notch a nice groove in it up and down, allow minimal clearance between the groove and the shaft of the nose gear and it will take a pile of abuse, believe me I know!! It works great!! I will post pics soon "
I am doing this on mine and believe me, it works!

RCGF 21cc Twin
Has anyone tried to see if the RCGF 21cc twin would fit in the cowl without cutting. I already know the engine is 8" cap to cap and it looks like a tight fit without cutting.
I would like to find out before ordering the engine.

8" will be very very close. I just measured my cowl,if the heads could be placed as far towards the firewall as possible. Maby. But I did have an idea,if you mounted the engine on a 45 degree angle, you could by a little more room, not sure about exhaust. But it looks like at an angle, you might just have enough room. Or you could always make a small blister right wher the plugs hit the side. Not true to scale, but better than holes in the cowl. Gas powered sure would be cool in the plane. Mine has an OS 1.2 nitro. Good luck, let us know if you make the jump

Man you will love it with the 20 I made sure to research how it fits and everything before and it worked out perfectly .. Needed some tweaking here and there since it was designed for glow, but in general it worked out well and flew great with the DLE 20

Looks nice alfawaz, and I love the starting station! We have a similar design at our field but its lacking that lower shelf. Will have to do something about that now!
Also, have any pics of the engine mounted with the cowling off?
Thanks,
Bill S.
