Tom,

I am thinking .72
The plane was designed around the .72 and from what I have been told it will balance correctly with that motor and no lead.
Its supposed to weigh right at 5 lbs...

I wil be assembling one tomorrow for a friend and will let you know what I think. Hopefully we willfly it Sunday.

I'm going to wait until this plane is tested and proven and then maybe I will get one hehehe...

Now the real question is.... Great Planes 40 sized U-CAN-DO-3D or the 40 sized Hanger 9 Funtana

Default This plane is ....

This plane is a real beauty.

Personally, I think the UCdo3D's are the ugliest planes made by great planes. Was thrilled to see this Funtana released and even more thrilled to see it at my house. But as they say, looks are not everything.

Can you post some pictures? The plane looks like its lazer cut. How is the covering quality and the manual look... im printing it out now. Hardware any good or is it trash?

Default Shortman....

Harware is good. Even comes with multi colored fuel line. It is laser cut and built very well. Covering is plain and straight forward. Not thrilled about the seam running down the middle of the fore turtle deck, but otherwise good. The graphics are half stickers and half vinyl. Stickers are a bummer. But I am planning to remove those and replace with a vinyl set later on. I will see if I can post some pics later. Been busy with other more pressing projects at the moment and have not taken it out of the plastic yet.

It is light though. Almost suprisingly.

All Hanger 9 planes have a seam on the turtle deck, the Sukhoi, extra, my edge, funtana, etc. It doesn't bother me at all though. I wish they would have went with a better scheme though, I LIKE the bottom, but the top with its all white is just to bland.

Well, I finished mine about 10 minutes ago... balanced perfectally with a saito .72... just had to move the battery around, but no weight in the tail. This plane is just beautiful :-) Going to hit the field later on today, so I'll be sure to report in after

Oh good! I though that the US40+ met it's end! Sitll flying it? Still like it? I just finished taking a bunch of right thrust out of mine. I thought it was excessive when I first built it but the guys on here and the tech support folks at GP said the wood was cut properly and that there might be "minor differences" between the plans and the built fuse. I just added a couple of washers under the right side of the engine mount and re-fit my cowl. Off to the field this afternoon to check it out.

Well, just got back from the field.

All's I can say is wow.... flys very very good. tracks very well, knife edges only require a little bit of elevator correction... inverted as well, only a very small correction. I had a small problem with my landing gear, but that was my fault. Other then that, the model looks absolutely beautiful and flys even better!

I just took mine out of the box and the front seam on the fuse had pulled apart from 1 being cut to deep and 2 being shrunk to much after being cut.

Ill prolly just recover the fuse since I have some white laying around I'm a perfectionist about covering even on arfs and it was a realy nastly looking thing covering everyelse looks excelent.

Might also make the bottom of the fuse transparent yellow since I happen to have some of that also

Got a brandnew saito .72 for it also

No video on the one I flew today but I think pics were taken.
I will post them if I get any.

Plane flies great. Very crisp. No overrotation on snaps because of the wing panels being so light.
This one trimmed out with 3 beeps of down.

3D:
Really sweet.
First thing I did with it was a parachute. It transitions into the elevator smoothly with no rocking.
Walls, same thing. Nice.
Inverted Harriers, rock solid.
Upright Harriers, same thing.
Waterfalls, could be a little tighter.
Hovering, Easy but some of the guys who flew it today say they were running out of right rudder. I didnt feel that but they did.
TR's, Easy and it winds up kinda fast.

Overall, a cool plane IMO.
Mine should be in this week.

That's strange! Isn't the 46FX the same weight as the Saito 72, the engine for which this airplane is ideally suited?

nope... the 46 weighs in at 13.2 oz and the 72 is at 16.6 oz. The 46 and 72 have pretty much the same case size, but weight is a bit different.
