RE: great planes pt19 arf 82
well, capt, it's been a long time since i have posted. i tried to post without pushing the post reply button and it all disapeared! so, as i was saying, my experience has been 1/3rd the cord of the wing. the spars are usually designed into this area. with the plane up side down, balance it on that mark. even with the tapered wing the root area is a good area to measure it out.
funny, i haven't seen this bird in any adds. is it a Dynaflite? i know that GP handles there products now and for some years. you did say that you purchased it used, perhaps it is a built kit. i really like that plane and would love to have one if i didn't have to build it. i have been building and flying since 1965 and it is nice to see so many planes that i always wanted but didn't want to build them. i still like to build but if i had to build all the planes i want i would never get to them all. i probably won't but i can get close!
anyway, i would love to share my lates re-creation of my super stearman that i smacked two years ago. i am re doing it in the yellow navy version. i am putting some detail on it and making it a real show stopper. i plan to submit it to AMA to put in their magazine where they show planes from around the planet.
here are a few pictures of it. i simulated the stitching. i am putting aluminum pieces on the top. and as you can see the engine had to be hogged out a lot to fit around the G-23. the roundells, stars and red circles are all out ofcoverite fabric. that stuff is amazing! it takes a lot of time todo these things but i have found itenjoyable. after flying for as long as i have ittends to loose it's challenge, my challenge is now scale detail.
thanks and hopethe C/Gworks out for you. bird.
