    Looks like fun nefariousrc, though you may want take a closer exam of the engine mount. They are cheap a very porous inside, mine had large air bubbles on the inside.. and I think they are made for a smaller engine. It appears that your engine bolts don't travel all the way thru the mount, are they self tapping screw you have there?....Oooch! Just trying to prevent you from going thru what I just did, and I'm running a 120ax more output then the DLE20, but the DLE20 has more lowend torque I believe...Oooch! So this is what I'm dealing with, final approach 10' up 30' from touch down, both arms break free from what remained attached to fire wall. Must of cracked 1 or both mount arms on a nose over on my maiden. I noticed it was vibrating pretty bad at low rpm and when transtioning after the first flight but thought it was new engine jitters (noob). Also I believe over tighten bolts [sm=disappointed.gif] Take a look, and my remedy....metal.

    Hey Joe if your talking speed only this bird will only go so fast, because their is alot of wing there=drag. I believe both engines will take it to it's speed limits rather easy.

    Hi SportsFans,

    I know the plane has a big wing that limits speed, just wondering if there is any speed difference between the DLE20 and the 120 2 cycle?
    I have a 40 and just LOVE it, getting ready to maiden my 125 next week or so

    Yes Clay it's a good strong mount, rides a little higher on the firewall do to not being offset like the plastic one when inverting the engine, but still a very good match for this model. Almost 4oz heavier though, did you have to add weight at the tailend? Haven't mounted mine yet waiting for the new cowl to come in, and quickly running out of fly season up here.

    You bet nefariousrc, yes to line the engine up like it's supposed be (by the marks on the firewall) you'll have to move it up abit because the metal mount is't offset like the plastic one. So it will mount higher on the firewall requiring new holds to be drilled. I plugged the old holds with oak dowls and 45 minute epoxied them in nice and clean.

    Nope. In fact I was able to remove the ultra heavy hub I had been using. I have installed an Ohio Superstar tailwheel after breaking the stock wheel. Still have to offset the mount in order for the prop-shaft to be centered in the cowl and had to trim some of the cross support at the hatch to install blind nuts to mount the engine. But no lead added to the plane and total flying weight is 10lb 3oz.

    I think I'll have to do the same, I had to add almost 4oz to the nose previously. I have removed all of that and I should be good, might have to move the battery a little. Interesting looking tailwheel It looks better than the Sullivan tailgear. thanks for Info.

    I have just purchased a pulse xt 125 and have found a good use saito 125 engine and was wondering if anyone has installed this engine at 90 degrees and if so, maybe a photo and some tips would help and do you think the recomended DS821 servos will be up to the task

    I've been reading up on thrust angles and haven't seen them mentioned in this thread - has anyone had to add thrust angle to their engine on this plane and, if so, by how much?

    EDIT: Never mind, I see they're built into the firewall offsets.

    I decided to go with the HAN2033 mount after all. Last night I got the engine in the plane... one thing I really like about this mount is the ability to set the firewall distance after installation.




    I used the Bisson Pitts style muffler. The cowl cutting turned out well, especially considering I'd never done it before. Rotary tools with cutting wheels and sanding drums are very handy!

    grosbeak, one suggestion. Wherever you have a 90 degree cut in the fiber glass cowl, round it to prevent facturing later on due to vibration. Stress build up in a sharp corner will over time cause factures in the fiber glass.

    I've been asked more than once why I didn't go with two elevator servos. Based on the assumption that this meant two servos in the bay in the middle of the plane, I didn't see any real benefits. The last person to ask me, however, pointed out the benefits of having external servos mounted near the tailplane. After thinking about it, I've decided to go this route - mostly to eliminate flex, complexity and the problems I've had with binding on centre. And since I'm going to be yanking push rods from inside the fuselage anyway I'm going to change the rudder to pull/pull.

    The elevators come first... I just got started on framing up the servos.

    One idea I might suggest would be to leave the final tail control servo location decisions until you get a pretty clear idea of how the plane is going to balance out. THEN it's MUCH easier to make intelligent decisions on locations of 1,2, or 3 servos. Especially the rudder servo!

    Hey guys. Was finally able to make it out to the field again and run 4 tanks through the Pulse. I'm loving this airframe/engine combo; 15minute flights only use ~4oz of gas so on my 12oz tank I could theoretically fly for 40min on a tank with a little reserve.

    Anyway, here's a couple more pics
