RE: CG Ultimate Biplane ARF 60.5
I sent Tower a lengthy e-mail explaining my problem and they finally ageed to send me a fuselage. I will definately strengthen this on up and I'll probably put an SPE 26 OR MLD 28 on it.

are you wanting pictures of my 60.5" CG? The one I have now has a the broken fuselage that Tower has just recently agreed to replace, so I haven't recieved it yet. I 'd be happy to send you pictures of the one that so that you can see where the weak point is.

Alright, I got my CG ultimate set up and ran about 25-30 oz of fuel through the new Evolution 35GT today. I hope to get a chance to fly it this weekend. I'm sure the most wanted peice of information reguarding my particular set up is, what is my AUW? 13.6 LBS and I did not add any weight to get a perfect ballance. This puts my wing loading at about 25oz per sqft. My plane is second hand so I have a big hole in my cowl where the previous owner had installed a Zenoah 20cc. Here are some pics.

Alot of the reason they are built that way is because 90% of the fixed wing flyers cry about weight and how light they need their planes because their scared their wing loading will be out of their own spec they have set in their head.

A lot of these new ARF's are built so light that they really have to be babied on landing. Some of them I'm afraid to do a snap roll with.

Treatment for this is.................take two war birds (flying), and call us in the morning.

Even though I like war birds and the way they look, I'm more of a 3D flyer. I like push planes to the limit and test my capabilities with new tricks.

and when the plane breaks you think you should get a new plane for free? If I was tower I would have told you that your SOL dumb thumbs are not part of the warranty

Good thing your not Tower since you are so wise. I do fly warbirds as well, I was simply stating that I prefer 3D planes. It wasn't a dumb thumb, I can recognize that easy enough since I've had my share. It was a factory defect were the the ply met up there wasn't a doubler over the part were they met up like the rest of the joints. It came apart right at that joint. I totaled a few planes since I've been flying and would never ask for a replacement unless I was sure that it was not my fault. This is the first time that I've ever ask for a replacement and I offered to pay for it. They do not carry spare parts for the CG models but they happened to have one from a scratch and dent and offer to send it to me. That's good customer service.

I have never had a problem with Tower hobbies (or for that matter the other one) I feel that both have done a very good job of CS. I, like 622, would not ask for a replacement it i had ****uped. I have wrecked my fair share learning to fly warbirds and extreme aerobatic (3D) planes. but my mindset is if I can't fly it I don't need to have it. I have been reading this tread because i want a Biplane and this one looks fun!!

ok heres a little truth, so you know where I am coming from. And that I was only busting your chops a little. And no pun in tended!! So please forgive me if I came across as a jerk. Now, I happen to work for a R/C company that builds and sells ARF airplanes on the market and when hearing a story like yours from joe pubic they feel as we owe them a free airplane because of a warranty that they feel they can beat up on. And in fact the Warranty states that it ONLY covers the fit and finish of the plane aircraft. NOW with a failure like yours we deal with on a ONE ON ONE basis!

RE: CG Ultimate Biplane ARF 60.5
None taken! I originally got upset because after it happened, I went online to buy the fuselage and found out that replacement parts are not offered for CG models. I was more upset with myself for not doing my homework. This is my third Ultimate and the other two are still going strong. Even though I was on the sixth flight, I was still taking it easy because I have it powered by the YS 1.2 which is on the low end of the 4 stroke power band requirements. I haven't had a chance to do anything stupid with this one yet. If something does happen and it's my fault, I'll hang it on the wall of shame in my garage with a few others and move on to the next project.

I'll was going to take some today and didn't get to it. I'll take some tomorrow and post. I don't think Tower is sending a fin and stab and i'm not sure of how much damage it will do getting them out to put into the new one.

RE: CG Ultimate Biplane ARF 60.5
I finally got to fly my Ultimate today! I got 4 for flights in. I thought the plane would be faster with the Evolution 35GT but it was very reasonable. Even at 13.6 lbs (dry) the bipe was very stable at slow speeds. At one point I dropped throttle to idle and fed in up elevator trying to stall the wings and all I got was a bit of wing rock and a steady sink rate. Of course the plane is fully cappable of all the basic aerobatics but what I found most fun was that the CG Ultimate does some of the nicest flat spins of any aircraft. Inverted spins were a tad flatter than upright spins but both were equally impressive taking about a spin and a half to recover after neutralizing the controls. Anyway hovering an Ultimate is difficult for me but I can't blame it on lack of power in this one. I can't wait till the engine is broke in and giving me full power. Anyway, my grass feild made quick work of those nice wheel pants so I will be going without them from now on. Also on my last flight today, my muffler worked it's way loose. With the loss of back pressure I was unable to slow the engine's idle speed as well. I made several aproaches that ended in me floating across the runway untill I finally just flew it to the ground and had it roll all the way down the runway intill it went off the end into the taller weeds at the end where it nosed over and finally stopped. I guess I should set up a kill switch on the radio.
Botom line, this bipes a keeper.
