Same here - the elevator hinges on mine are off. I was a little surprised at that. Haven't corrected it yet - plane flies fine - but may later on. Another thing I noticed - it seems that the vertical stabilizer is actually not exactly straight - the front of it is pointing slightly to the right. That REALLY surprized me - seems like a flaw in the template or mold used to form the fuselage. Anyone else notice that? (it's slight, but I noticed it). Still a beautiful plane. Would love for Great Planes to look into that.

I flew mine earlier today and have to say, I love this plane. Inverted and upright loops are spot on, even with full elevator and throttle. I think the correction of the elevator hinge line made a big difference. I would be less concerned about ailerons, which don't have to have identical throws and can be trimmed out, as the rudder.

Slow and Steady;

Congrat on your flight today!!! I don't know how many planes you have in your hangar, but you will find that you will fly the revolver alot!!! The more you fly her the more you will see what this plane will do!! My two revolver are on the charger for a day of flying tomorrow. Clear skies with temp in the mid 60's Wow spring fever at last!!!
Have a great weekend everyone!!!!

Jett22 - agreed - I had four flights and a few other takeoffs\landings this morning by 7:30am - and was a bit windy here in NY - but this 70" Revolver is forgiving - handles the wind nicely, and has a better glide ratio and lower stall speed than the 59" Rev. Great plane. Today was the first time I flew it on wheels - the other times were on skis. Handles great (in air and on the ground), plus I think less drag with the wheels than the skis. Need to try to retrofit the wheelpants - they don't quite fit onto the Dubro gear. Am just now charging up my Rev 59 (OS .61 2S) for flying tomorrow morning. Weather will be 34 and 10mph from NW - perfect.

Hi All;

Well here are a few pictures of the new Large Revolver with the OS 1.20SE ( 4 stroke ) engine in her. Hope to fly her this weekend if the weather is good. I will post the outcome good or bad!! Will do engine run up tomorrow to see if the motor box hold up. I did beef up the box just in case!!

Looks great! Should move well with that engine. I'm curious about the prop too. Good luck on the weekend.

Hey Guys;
Thanks for the responds!! The prop in the picture is a APC 15x8. The manusl say I can use a 13x11, 14x10-11, 15x8, and 16x6-7. I will try the 15x8, then the 13x11 and the 14x10 to see what is good for this bird. She is a pig!! The final weight with no fuel is 10.5 lbs and the CG is as per manual with no extra weight added. I did have to go with a 6V 3600 mAh receiver battery and move it to the servo bay to get the plane at the manual CG. I am not going for speed with this setup. I just want to keep the OS 1.20SE in shape to go back into the Hangar 9 Blue Nose P-51 when they come back in-stock next month. I will post the outcome of this weekend flight if the weather be okay. The weather man is calling for a mix of rain and snow through the weekend.[][]

I had a few flights on mine this weekend. The longer landing gear worked ok except the center of gravity is higher and she wants to nose over on taxi. Not a biggie .. They're getting swapped as soon as they originals come in stock.

As fas as prop choices this weekend. The ST90 2s with a 12X10 .. Went ok .. nice speed but was a windy day and I didn't feel it had authority in the wind. , Then I went to a 13X8 .. This is the prop... I got excellent speed and great pull and uplines out of the engine. Definally the sweet spot for this engine. So thats it gang .. I'm a little upset today as I hastily took off my Reactor Bipe in lots of wind.. The wind took it on a short takeoff and I put her into the ground. This is by far the easiest plane to fly and do 3d with... So .. I bought another one!!! Now where's that big brown truck already?

thanks for the prop info. the snow is gone but with the land is so flat around here the drainage is slow. it will be weeks before the fields dry up enough to fly most likely. sorry to hear about your reactor bipe dude but glad to hear your back on the horse as they say. happy flying, capt

Frankeldan - yeah, with my Rev 70 and OS 91 2S so far I like the 13x7 best, but dont' think I've tried a 13x8. Will have to. Actually, tonight I just ordered a used YS 1.40 4S - going to put it into the Rev 70. Now that should move, and, according to the owner, should let me go vertical. Will be swinging a 15 or 16" prop. Can't wait. Might move the 91 in the 70 into my 59" Rev. More speed all around. I've uploaded two pics of the 70 in the snow a few weeks ago - one a close up of the Dubro gear and 9" skis.

Sonny,
I'm looking forward to hearing how the 120 does in your Revolver as compared to the 91. I'm still debating on purchasing this plane, and if It would be better to use a Saito 125 or the recommended OS 91 Surpass II. I have both of these engines.
The wingspan of the Revolver is comperable to the Funtana 100 that I took the Saito 125 out of, so I'm leaning that direction. Plus, the pumped 91 and the Saito 125 are nearly the same weight.
I'd like to hear the opinions of anyone else who has flown the Revolver with a 120 or 125 also.
Cheers! BH

BH;

I do have a Large Revolver with a OS 91 Surpass II ( non pump ). turning a APC 13x8 prop and it a very good match. the speed is good too!! The vertical climbout is not that great.
Speed drop off fast!!! I ran the 1.20 today on the large revolver and found it was doing a lot of shaking, so I shut the engine down and start checking everything. I found the 15x8 APC prop was out of balance plus the spinner backplate was out of balance too!! Balance both and back on the plane for another engine test and it ran like a top!! No shaking at all!! At full power, I held the plane up and to me it felt like is I let the plane go, it would start to climb!! I hope I can get a video of this weekend test flight, but I will make a report!!

Jet22- looking forward to hearing how it goes. I'll be getting my YS 1.40 L next week - can't wait to get it installed and tested. btw - was your 1.20 4S longer than the 2s, that is, did it extend the spinner out past the cowling? If so, did you have to adjust the engine box? I'd rather not change the engine mount if possible - am wondering if I can get another cowling and put an extension on that (if needed).

Nevermind - I just looked again at your pics and saw that it does extend the spinner out a bit. Looks fine, though.

Microdon2,

Did you paint your gear or did it come that way ... It looks hot.

Like the snow pics. I put the ski's away for the season now.

So .. My Bipe is coming tomorrow .. I was checking out the Saito FA100 after the crash. Looks like I need to pull it apart and adjust the Valves. The compression isn't letting go .. must be the exaust valve stuck.

Frankeldan - the Dubro main gear comes tan, so I first spay-painted it with white fuel-proof paint - it's a thin paint, so it took about 5-6 coats. Then I bought three colors of trim from Tower - grey, red and blue (not the exact blue as the royal blue of the plane, but close) and applied the three different coats of trim to the gear. First red, then grey, then blue, overlapping each, and making each layer slightly narrower to create that design. Did the same with my 59" Revolver, with different colors, of course. I think it looks much cooler than just the solid white gear - the design also makes the gear look thinner, while retaining it's full strength (some guys actually carve out the gear to make it thinner). I've attached some pics of both of my 59" (one an OS .61 2s, the other an OS .70 Surpass II 4s), showing their main gear, and also show the Great Planes Scale tale wheel assembly (MUCH stronger and, I think, better looking than the stock).

(the 4S plane is a little beat up cause I've basically totaled it three times and completely rebuilt it at least once - still flies great, even though it's much heavier now because of all the 30 min epoxy holding it together). Pic of the Rev 70 in the snow shows the underside of the gear, clearly showing the more-aft placement of the bolts (had to install a 3/8" flooring to hold the t-nuts). I think the "four-boxer" config for the bolts is MUCH stronger than the stock 4-across. (Great planes - pls take note...)

A 140L?...You may have balance issues...IMHO don't fly this bird nose/heavy...you will never get it slowed/up to land it!...Yup I know what 140L's are like...I run them in my 2M pattern planes...They will be WAY/OVER/POWERED for this bird...The YS110/115 with the correct prop is a perfect match for this bird...Also lighter...FWIW

tande;

I had to agree with you!! The 140L and or the OS 1.20SE may be a over kill for this plane. This weekend test flight for me is to stay high and see how slow I can get this plane to fly. I do this to all new airplane I fly for the first time. With this info in hand, I will know what the plane will do when it time to land her. One thing we have to remember people, when we strap large engines on planes, we become test pilot!!! I know how the plane feel and fly with the OS 91 Surpass II engine, but now I am in new water!!! This is why my setup will be check and re-check up to the day the engine start for the first flight. If the weather is a go for this weekend, my flying friend and I will be at the club field at 10:00AM, (the club rule is no flight before 10:00AM any day!!) and people do not showup before 12:00PM. So if something go bad, olny two people will be at ground zero!! Safety is always the top rule!!!

Sonny,

What do you think of it's slow flying habits? I got to tell you .. I have just been blasting around with mine. I haven't set it up for knife edge or any scale looking aerobatics yet.

I flew my bnf Sukoi in the backyard today .. What a piece of junk and a waste of 100 bucks that one was. Flys way too fast , pull the power off and it falls out of the sky like a rock.

Ehhh... Foameys... why do I bother..

Dan;

The large revolver slow flight is good, but, do not go to full power right away. I found that out the hard way!! With the nose still high and you add power that fast it will snap roll before you know it. The stall are very tame. You run out of up elevator before she will stall and then the nose just drop, but again don't go to full power untill the wings are flying again. I go with half throttle and than full power. A high speed knife edge is sweet!!! The rudder will hold it very nice. In fact all controls respond very well in slow flight. The more I fly this plane, the more I fall in love with it. Great Planes has a winner with this bird and if they make a Giant Revolver, my name will be on the pre-order list in a heart beat!!

Like you, Dan, I don't like Foameys!!!

As previously noted, mine has a 75 AX with an APC 13 6. Speed is excellent, but not a rocket. Landings are very straightforward, almost like a trainer. Knife edge has very little pitch coupling and is easy to maintain.
