I totally agree with you on the DLE gasser's. Right now they are my favorite engine. But I have other engines I must use because they two are good engines like the ASP S91A. I am going to start my second Rev-70 becasue of pilot error. I flew it into a tree on a landing approch.[:'(] Bad depth perception[:@] I like the way the plew flew with the DLE-20 so much I had to have another. I will start building it once I am done with my Pheonix 330S extra that I am putting my ASP S91A in

i am a diehard glo-fuel guy and i alwas try to buy at my LHS. for my loyalty to my LHS i am on their discount purchase plan and i alwas by my fuel by the case(s) and get an additional discount. it works out that i can get 15% wildcat for about $17.00 a gallon. i also gladly resell the fuel to friends at the club at my cost as it helps to keep my fuel purchases large. the extra effort is because i prefer my glo-engines(that's just me). i was wondering what you guys pay for glo-fuel at different places around the country? happy flying, capt

RE: Larger Revolver
Built and loved my 70/DLE20cc combination for the four flights is lasted. Ordering another ARF, it was too good not to replace. The pilot attempted a turn back mid field on a dead stick. Downwind and low airspeed did not work out too well... 17x6 was perfect combination. Had just completed the landing gear mount upgrades. Blame it on the Angry Birds pilots. Should have known....

BGCombs - sorry to hear \ see your Rev 70 crash. Though if the wings are good you can cut out the tail feathers and reuse them - then you just need a fuse\canopy. I've done that a couple of times. You just need to cut a slot into the rear end of the fuse to slide the elevator assembly in. Then you epoxy back the plug. Works fine.
capt1597 - Omega 15% Nitro is $19\gal in the Bronx. Further out on Long Island I've seen it going for $24\gal.

[quoteNo complaints at my field yet about the noise. I hope not because I love the sound when it screams by low and fast at full throttle!

Oh yeah baby! These DLE20s have a *****en bark to their exhaust note. I love it because it tell everyone that this engine means business. As if the aircraft absolutely screetching across the sky isnt evidence enough to the power under the hood!

Not a Revolver, but had a close call this morning with my Sukhoi \ DLE 30. Lost the left elevator going into a flat spin. Then the engine cut out. Had just enough room to land it before the tree line. The only thing holding the elevator on was the push-rod\clevis. At least now I know I can do a dead stick with 1/2 an elevator.

I guess others had already beat me to this comment...

I use Omega 10% myself and it is $22 a gallon here in Memphis. [:'(] I still run a couple of glow engines but it if goes up much more I think I'll only fly my gassers.
Jeremy,
You wanted to see a pic of my Phoenix Extra 330S. Here it is. I have the newer model that has a different setup than the older on that guy's had trouble with it being tail heavy. If anything nmine is a little nose heavy. I flys pretty well but has issues with the landing gear I am working on. Once I get that fixed I will be working on the Rev-70 once again

RE: Larger Revolver
jstanton - your Extra 330 looks good. What's the wingspan and engine? I have a Pheonix Extra 300s (57") NIB - I was going to make it electric, but I'm now leaning towards using one of my spare engines - I have an OS 70 4s that might be perfect for it.

RE: Larger Revolver
Your OS 70 should be plenty of power for your Pheoixe 330s. My 330s has a 63" wing span and I had a Magnum 108a in it. It was a little over kill but really flew nice. I am changing it out to a ASP S91a I have that should work out a little better for the CG. I was going to have to add more weight to the tall if I wanted to keep the 108 in it. Should be done ths week then onto the Rev-70

RE: Larger Revolver
looks good jim. i think it was a tail heavy issue i heard of. I saw one on youtube and the guy almost crashed it on the maiden. He landed hard too. dunno how bad the damage was.
im still trying to decide on my next plane.
still looking at this

and now also considering this

Jeremy,
Both planes look real good. I would go with the TroyBuilt Extra. It has more wing area and weighs the same as the AeroWorks Extra. That translates ninto a lighter wing loading which means it sould fly better. I think the TroyBuilt will also be easier to see in tne air.

RE: Larger Revolver
Besides, that Goldwing MX2 is great looking. (though the spinner isn't included, and it looks like they're recommending the CF gear).
Got some good flying in this morning with my Rev 70 \ OS 120 4s. I do love the way this plane handles, and the 120 is smooth and steady. Was practicing my flatspin - it's not quite there. Think I need to increase my rudder \ elevator throws and move the CG back just a tad. Just love how this plane lands - so easy to glide right down to the dirt.
Had one interesting dead-stick (think I had the idle down a click too low) - was going vertical to do a hammer-head stall turn when the engine cut out - and the plane wasn't that high. Now the plane is turning over and diving straight down - mid field (why does this always happen mid-field?). Fortunately I picked up enough speed to level off in time and then had enough field to land and roll out safely.
On my Rev 59 rebulid it looks like I'm going to have to move the firewall back a bit to fit the ASP91 and have a nice 1/8" gap to the spinner backplate. Was trying to avoid this, but it's not the worst. Just a bit more work to do.

RE: Larger Revolver
I had a self induced emergency landing during the maiden of my Sbach today. I accidentally hit my ignition kill switch while trying to trim the elevator. Landed in the field next to the runway and didn't get a scratch on her. Any maiden that doesn't require a trash bag is a success!

RE: Larger Revolver
DonE - Congrats on saving the plane. But I wouldn't think your kill-switch toggle would be close to your elevator trim.
When I've used a kill switch I've attached it to a channel with a "spring" toggle (which you have to pull and hold), not a "positional" switch (which clicks into the new position and stays there). Seems a bit safer - takes more effort to kill the engine. And that toggle is the furthest from my hands, in the back\left of the radio. Also, since the EI is still "on", once you let go of the kill toggle, if the prop is still spinning the engine will start itself back up. Kind of cool, actually. Is yours setup differently? Or could you have moved the toggle back to the "on" position to restart your engine?
