I have a similar GPS tracker as Frankeldan. It's a CanmoreGT-730F/L that I wired to run off one of the receiver channels. At $40 it was a great buy. The battery and quarter are for size reference. I've also attached a couple of images of data I got off it while flying my smaller Revolver with OS 55AX.
In case you're wondering, Dan, that's the field in Durham, not the Swamp Flyers field.

RE: Larger Revolver
a GPS will give vertical speed. a GPS will indicate altitude and so the change in altitude over a given time shows speed. of course it is horizontle and verticle in combination that show speed through the sky. they sure are neat little instruments. capt

RE: Larger Revolver
Yeah, I agree, Mike, I've seen that SkyTrace before and it looks cool.
The Canmore will log altitude, and you can see the plot in Google Earth. I just don't think it is super accurate since it uses triangulation to get the value. For a more accurate altitude you'd need a device that uses a barometric pressure transducer to determine altitude.
I have one of these to log altitude on my AP setup, and it works great. Unfortunately the guy who makes it has been searching for a new place to manufacture it for over a year now:
[link=http://www.hexpertsystems.com/zlog/]http://www.hexpertsystems.com/zlog/[/link]
Another great solution is the Eagle Tree stuff. GPS logging and baro pressure altitude logging at the same time. They are pricey though:

RE: Larger Revolver
From the sound of previous posts, I think a Saito 100 would be great for this plane. Sonny (Jet22b) has flown an O.S. 91 4-stroke in it and that provides enough power except in a couple of maneuvers. So I think the Saito 100 would take you right over the hump and give you all the power you'd need. Plus, it is over 3 oz lighter than the O.S. 91, so I think that would help out too.

RE: Larger Revolver
So I finally got around to mounting my ASP 1.20 4-stroke and started cutting the cowl out. As it turns out, my concerns about the spinner being too close to the cowl were unwarranted - I have about 1/8" clearance, which I think is perfect (see image). I think the little bit of thickness added by glassing the engine mount box helped.
It looks like the muffler for the 1.20 will have to come out the side of the plane instead of underneath it. I looked back at Sonny's images of his O.S. 1.20, and I could see that is what he had to do too.
Not too much left to go on this and I'll have it in the air, but I'm finding it hard to find the time to finish it up.

RE: Larger Revolver
Thats what I was wondering if it will put it over the "hump" that the 91 was having, it looks like it flies great in the GP video with a 91 but there is no way around it 9 pds is a heavy sucker. I have a turbo header muffler for the saito which bumbs the RPMs and is lighter than the original stock. Hope to make it light by using an 1100 A123 etc.....
I have overpowered stuff in the past this engine is coming off a cap 580, want to try a build and go the light route this go around, although it was sure nice having ballistic power. I will be using it for IMAC type of maneuvers, I really have to laugh at people that buy a plane like this for 3d, give me a break.

Hey Tux;
Your Large Revolver is looking good!! You are right, I did have to come out the side of the cowling for the muffler!!!
Now get it done so Dan and yourself fly each other wings off!!

RE: Larger Revolver
Dan,
I'm happy with the Dubro gear, so I'm willing to part with the OEM ones. We can either try to meet again, or I can just leave them in the trailer at the field for you. Let me know. I'm going to try to finish the plane this week.

RE: Larger Revolver
I would say about 300 so not a deal breaker. BUT it is so small you barley have to cut the cowl and you will get allot of comments on the sound hahah... I like it much better than the pitts I was using..

RE: Larger Revolver
Thanks Slats! I didn't think it would be much, but I did hear a video with one installed on a 4S and it did sound great!!! Still, 300 RPMs can make a diff on the right plane.

RE: Larger Revolver
Hey Sonny how many RPMS is the OS 91 turning the 13X8 prop.
I got to say after an engine comparison the OS 1.20 FS SE is one heavy beast. I can see why the guy is trying the Saito 1.80 its the same listed weight as the OS 120.
I don't want to start an engine debate but when doing a comparison to the Saito 1.00 the HP and RPMs outputs are pretty close BUT there is almost a 10 oz diff which is insane.. I can turn a 15X6 at about 9400 RPM at a high altitude. I am thinking of going with a 13x11 or 13X10 on this. Will give a report once I fly it.

RE: Larger Revolver
Hi Slats;
Sorry for the late reply. Just came home from the fly field. The OS 91 II surpass turn the 13x8 prop at 8,200 rpm on the top side and 2,100 rpm on the low side. Yes the 1.20 is on the heavy side, but, also drink more fuel than the 91, but, not by much. The 91 will give me 15 min on a full tank and the 1.20 is right at 14 min. Like I said before in my flight report. the 91 hold is own in everything else but not in steep climb or inside loops. The 1.20 will do inside loops all day at half throttle, but the 91 must be at full power at the top to pull the plane over for the down side. Now if Great Plane come out with a 50cc Gas Power Gaint Revolver, that would be sweet!!!
Have a great week everyone!!

RE: Larger Revolver
What percent nitro are you using with you Saito 100, Slats? I've read thatvthe Magnum 120 can turn an APC 15x8 at about 8800 RPM using 10% nitro, so it sounds like your Saito 100 has lots of power, especially for it's weight.
