So I pulled the servos out of the plane and hooked up the three XQ Power servos to the RX, then moved all three channels where they were connected just to see what would happen.

They work okay with no jumping, Until you apply a little load to one...Apply load to one servo and all three pulse some more than others but they still pulse..Odd very odd.

I've never heard of or seen this kind of behavior before... I should have just gotten Hitech's.

Man, that sucks. I just got one of those to run my rudder on the edge. It's working well so far. They are supposed to be great servos. And that is a ton of power to run one on each elevator!I got mine from Redwing. I'd still contact aerobeez and see what they say. You got them a while ago, but they're still brand new. I know Redwing is real good about standing behind the products they sell. Hopefully aerobeez is too.

It's not even been three months. They should help you out.

Do they only do that when the sticks are at full throw, or do they do it if you move them half way too?

Are the Hitecs I sold you doing the same thing? If so, maybe a radio or Rx problem...

I've actually thought about that too, your servos btw are fine.

I've flown this Rx before many times, in fact I've just removed it from my Avistar Trainer which also had digital servos, so I know the Rx is fine.
I fly only this Tx as well so I know its cool too.

I thought it might be a voltage issue after reading about the same thing happening to other users here at this link

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...2s_17_5kg.html

It's not an isolated problem here is a excerpt from hobby king

The following was found on the xq power site (manufacturer of this servo)

"The lastest customers please pay attention:For the brand XQ-POWER XQ-S40**D series 3 models www.link have been Comprehensively optimized. For the convenience of using them under the normal voltage, our company readjust the original voltage range 6.0~7.2V to 4.8~6.0V. So now these 3 models Servos can work normally under the voltage range 4.8~6.0V. The speed has also been upped and the torque is constant. To bring customers the convinence, please fogive us. "which indicates that this is not a HV servo allthough it's specified as a 6 to 7.2 V

K so I guessed maybe I should use lower voltage right? Alright, So I've rigged up a 4.8V NiMh pack and went ahead and tested... even with this pack these servos twitch.. on no load they are fine, add a little pressure to one and the other two will twitch.I've uploaded a vid on youtube here is the link..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0JrPWT9U_Q&feature=youtu.be

I'll tell you what's even more strange than this.

I went and hooked up all my servos to the Rx
that includes the three XQ power and three hitec 645MG's

I've tried them in two configurations..

(2)XQ in dual elevator and (1) XQ in rudder was first up...they twitched a little, when you apply small pressure to either elevator.

then

(2)XQ in dual aileron and (1)rudder, they twitch here but its very little.

They seem to prefer this configuration but they twitch more with a 4.8v pack as opposed to a 6.6v life?

So I'm really getting confused.

The next thing to try out is a different Rx and see what happens then.

I'm really scratching my head on this one.

Alright.
So far I have tried Airtronics 6 channel and FrSky 7 channel.
The servos behave the same way on both of these Rx.
I'm fresh out of ideas now.
I've tried 6.6v 4.8v NiMh LiFePo4 A123's
I've tried elevator and aileron combinations, heck, I've even tried a "Y" harness on one channel.

I feel like the only place I can safely put these are in my throttle lol.

Oh by the way, using just one of these servos on any channel seems to be okay, no bad habits there. but two and more seems to be a problem.

I've officially given up!

I've rigged things up so that the three xq power servos have their own independent power separate from the RX and other servos which are on an other battery pack

no difference.. what a waste of a day man wow!

Have you tried an unregulated lipo at 7.2v or 11.8? Maybe these are the ultra high voltage servos. A lot of guys now are running systems powered by unregulated lipos...

But your rx has to be able to handle it...

By the way. I'm running mine with a unregulated 6.6v life. But my servo is newer.

My Rx can take high voltage but at this point I don't think I'd eve bother, the specs state 6v on these I won't venture beyond that and risk loosing any change of getting them replaced. I'm waiting to hear back from aerobeez they said to let them know about all the tests I'm doing and that they would take them back test and if determined that they are bad replace them.

Thing is, their idea of bad and mine might be different and I might end up spending more money uselessly, I'm considering just cutting my losses and ordering some hitech5645 later and be done with it.

Good servo for the price. Not quite as fast, but plenty fast enough. But speed doesn'tmatter if they don't work right, haha!

Anyway, I looked them up on tower, and on Redwing RC. Redwing is 6 bucks cheaper on the Hitec 5645s ($39.95). They ship fast and have excellent customer service. I ordered one of their life batteries and it didn't come with a standard connector and a dean's connector, as advertised. It only had the one standard connector. So I contacted them. They said the next shipment of batteries would have both connectors, and I could exchange mine, or buy a new one for only ten bucks! So I jumped on that and got a second 2100mah LiFe battery for $10! Score! I think they took care of me and made it right...

In my experience, their customer service is second to none. Their communication is real fast and always clearly answers all my questions. They are very dedicated to the hobby and know their stuff. They don't have employees that aren't "in the know" when it comes to RC equipment. It's nice dealing with a company like that. So I buy from them whenever they have what I need.

you're right that IS a good deal I'd jump all over that!
I actually looked at Redwing when I was getting the XQ servos but choose Aerobeez at the time because Aerobeez had a sale on them for about $37 a pop where as Redwing had them them for more, was trying to save a buck lol. Oh well.
I'll check on Redwing about that hitech. I was even considering the Hitech 5625 servo there's a high torque 5645 and a high speed 5625. I only wanted the high speed one its at around 130oz/inch i think so that should be enough so i might just go with the 5625. we'll see.

Hi El_xero. I have the Hitec 5625 all round -- using twin rear elevator servos. These are very nice servos and work beautifully with the revolver. I prefer more speed versus the higher torque as I can absolutely feel the difference with the higher speed servos. I do not think that you would regret going with Hitec.

I have my DLE 20RA installed. The rear muffler and spark plug that protrudes less looks good. I am still running her in with the cowl off so far. The RA version mounts perfectly in the Revolver. My obs so far are that my electric setup was significantly quicker, but this DLE is still wearing in and quite tight. I will really only know the difference several flights down the line. I am using an APC 15X8 at present -- some how I have not tached it yet -- just did not think about it. The motor was professionally tuned by ear for me, and runs beautifully.

Thanks for the heads up on that one Dreamtime, I really should have just gone that route myself! My bird would have been almost done by now if not for these servo issues.. I spend hm maybe 4 days trying to sort just that out and now I'm so far behind my schedule lol.
I love the look of the DLE 20 RA. When I'm building my GP extra 300S I'll get one just for it rather than swapping out motors. (well, if finances permit!)
As for electric setup.. believe it or not I started my modeling with Electric and had zero interest in anything fuel based. After a chance meeting at the field where I fly with this much older dude I got doused with fuel and couldn't resist! Chris insisted on giving me an Avistar he had in a bucket (bits and pieces) and I got my 4 channel wings on that plane which I've crashed and chris has rebuilt too many times to count I'll up pics. To be honest with you I still like electric but on any plane this size I just cannot fathom anything but the thud thud of a gasser or big glow engine up front! I can't ... speed is secondary for me in this instance. I've got 16x6 props and that's what I intend to fly!

Do you have any vids of your flights?

So, this is the rear servo setup. I've included pics of the original idea as well and the final pic is of my work area and what it tends to look like as I go at it. Cleans up in a jiffy really....

I've been trying all night to upload some pics like I promised but this thing just keeps messing up on me I don't know why.

Last try... Going to show Chris's work his rebuilt PT 40, my Avistar and all its paint jobs haha.
Don't want to hijack this thread guys I hope no one is annoyed about this as these are not of the revolver. I've got pics of other planes I've worked on as well. If anyone wants to see them then I'll go ahead and upload some more. I'll try to keep it short.

The guy in the pics? That would be Chris, He's the one generously rebuilding all my planes so far! I'll be taking over soon though ha! forgot to add the second crash pics here goes.

As I said guys I don't want to hijack the thread as these are not of a revolver at all.
But to anyone who wants to see the other's let me know and I'll upload them
I've got stuff from the my super sportster which I've lost in the trees can't find her sadly, GP rapture and a really really pretty job of a GP uproar I re-did for my bud.

anyway that's it for me tonight I'm out.

Oh and if anyone ever wondered, the Revolver comes with a 14 oz tank 420CC there about.

Hi el-xero. No vids. I really need to get someone to do some for me. I agree with you about that lovely gas engine sound. I built my revolver using electric initially as I had most of the bits except batteries. However the cost of bats for about 16 minutes of flight time was around $350-$400. As noted, her speed was just a bonus and not what I was expecting -- really awesome performance with an APC 15x8. Spinning about 10500rpm the sound was pretty nice as well. However the lure of the DLE and such cheap flying was too tempting. I pay about 25-30 cents a flight now!

Yes the high cost of the batts even with hobbyking and the minuscule flight time really kills it for me. I have no problems with those
when I'm flying any of my high speed delta foamy planes, as flying around at high speed for more than 4-7 mins can actually get tiring.
However flying around in a bigger plane especially something like the revolver, at what looks like a slow speed (with all that hidden power/thrust)
for a longer time at a cheaper cost and no risk of loosing the batteries has much more of an appeal to me. It makes me want to learn all those maneuvers, perfect my landings and become an all round better RC pilot rather than just tear holes in the sky breaking the scale sound barrier.

I will say this though, there is no substitute for near zero chance of dead sticks and engine troubles (not to mention no clean up) with electric. That, I will always miss haha

Happy landings

Wing Repair complete

By no means perfect but it will simply have to do!

The right wing comes in at 1lb 2oz vs the left which is just about 14oz so it's a brick!
Those spliced up dowels I put in there really piled on the fat man! Wish I had just waited and bought some carbon fiber strips instead!
I don't want to think about how much weight I'll need in the left wing tip to balance this thing haha. wow!

Hi Dreamtime
Can you post some pictures of your twin elevator servo setup? I would also really like to see your engine installation. I am installing a DLE20RA right now in the Revolver. Was fortunate to have a "sacrificial" cowl from the previous owner as it was already cut for a different motor, but i could still experiment with it before cutting into a new one.
Thanks

Hope these help. I made a simple H frame with 2 horizontal pieces between which the servo fits. I used wooden 'spacers' to recess the the whole structure inwards so that less of the servo protrudes from the fuse. I recessed about 10mm which is just right to stop the two servos making contact inside. Being recessed looks a bit better and is less windage. The servos are Hitec 5625. The frames weigh less than 1/2oz, but interestingly I am struggling to get weight forward with the DLE 20RA. I build this plane with no other mods so wonder if the RA version is a bit lighter, as most folk need the aft servos to try and get weight back! My wife is away the camera at present, but will get some pics of the motor asap.

Alex, that wing looks great, and those coverings are professional looking.

After watching a video on the Slick 540 and Slick 360 prototypes (the real aircraft), I was thinking that an all white Revolver would look pretty cool. I dont know why exactly. Maybe just because its just a nice looking airframe. And it would be different from the rest, in a simple way. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BbV8c1DAPMo

And that elevator servo setup is pretty slick! But with my skill level (and foreseen frustration) I'd probably opt for the way Dreamtime did his. The way you did it keeps the plane looking sleek, and Im sure reduces parasitic drag, but I'm not going for all out speed. So it shouldn't be a big deal...

Professional looking? Wow thanks man, I really appreciate that! Those aren't even the one's I'm more proud of... lemme sneak a pic or two.

So this is my buds GP Uproar. Originally done in Towerhobbies monokote done by my bud with teeny bit of input on my end. Then, after his latest rebuild, I did it over in Hobbykings covering. Just stole bits of ideas from thing's I've seen all over really. Love the way it came out love it! This is the latest plane I've done. I like the scheme on this one the most out of every thing else I've done so far. Just seems to keep getting better.

Would you believe that I actually do not like covering planes? Nope... It just takes me too dang long to get started in the first place (cuz I've got to decide on what I wanna do first and figure out how I'm going to do it) Then it takes me too long to finish. I spent a full 5 days, morning to late night on my buds uproar! You can't imagine how happy I was to get it out of my house!

The clear stuff you're seeing is milar I think they call it.. that clear plastic which is used to laminate certificates? Chris got a roll of the really thin
ones and thought that we could use it on a plane. It loves balsa, wont let go of it! easy to paint (paint loves it too) and when you put it on, the surfaces really get stiffened up! I was shocked at how much stronger this is than monokote! my iron dropped onto an open area of the wing bounced off and hit the floor with out so much as scratching this stuff! About 70% of my buds plane has this stuff on it followed by the hobbyking covering.

Now that you went and stuck that vid in there man you've got my blood flowing and I really wanna learn some maneuvers and get to flying!
I like the idea of an all white revolver. But I'm not touching that one with a ten foot pole! disorientation is no ones friend hahaha!

Aerobeez is gonna hook me up with an exchange. I've kept them informed of all the tests and sent them the vids, so they offered to give me the new HV versions! Got the RMA gonna jump all over that one!

Thanks for the complements again man, especially on the servo setup!
I initially wanted to do it the way Dreamtime did, I've always loved that look, but seeing as I'm used to the revolver looking sleek as it is
I decided to hide them away. I wanted to use counter sunk screws paint them over yadda yadda but you know what.. I'm tired I wanna get to flying already and I don't have those screws I'd have to order (not gonna do that haha)

Was gonna cover up the left repaired wing tonight but I think I'm calling it quits for the day.. bed time dang it. lol

G-night all.

Got a little bit of time last night did the bottom of the left wing

Looks ok, Chris is concerned that the orange isn't dark enough for the bottom though. He might be right about that. Gosh to do that all over again?

Today I really got to ring out my Revolver and love it. Had a perfect day and took advantage. My DLE 20 now is hard to start by hand flipping. I have been using a starter and it starts almost instantly. Any ideas why it all of a sudden it wants to be stubborn. Thanks
