Has anyone had experience with using the rear exhaust version of the DLE20 on the revolver? Is there enough clearance? The rear exhaust would look sick!
Also - if I get a lifepack do I connect one lead to the IBEC how do the connections look?
RX --> IBEC <-- ignition
So that means i don't have to use the 2nd lead on the life pack battery?

I just threw that out there because lots of guys do run an actual switch on the plane with the IBEC, including many guys at my field. I've had a couple debates with guys on the issue to no avail. They just kept saying "but you need a switch to turn the ignition off on the plane" haha. Even though I told them that when the Rx is not powered, the ignition is not powered they still didn't agree. I don't know why. They were new to gas engines so it's not like they were used to powering planes with a separate ignition battery. I think they must have read it online somewhere and it stuck in their head. Now when I see someone with 3 or 4 switches on their plane I just don't even ask about it.

As for the IBEC, just use the instructions that Super08 posted and you'll be fine. It's super simple. You should really only need the instructions for setting up the radio channel. Physically connecting it is the easiest part because the wires are labeled for where they go. You can't mess that up. The instructions will tell you to use the length of the wire to the ignition to mount the IBEC as far away from the ignition as possible. Use foam under it (on the flat side) when securing it (i simply use a zip tie), and don't cover the top of it with foam or anything so it will stay cool. Boom, done. Awesome units at a great price. And Ed is a really nice and helpful guy. One day, he chatted it up with me for at least an hour and gave me a lot of good advise. So if you've got ANY radio questions, give him a call.

Yup, the DLE20RA fits perfect without any interference. And IMHO, it is the perfect engine for this plane!
I do however run two Life (1800mah/2100mah) batteries in this plane and not an IBEC. Not shown in these pictures, but you can see the colorful velcro straps used to hold them in place right behind the wing tube. The 8oz gas tank is safely enough for about 15 mins of fun flying, although i usually land after about 8 mins as I can't hold my breath any longer
As is, with the DLE20RA and batteries the plane does not require any weight front or back to achieve perfect CG.

Did you guys run into issues with the wing tube being super tight? i was going to run to home depot today to grab the aluminum bracket for the landing gear and was thinking about picking up some sandpaper to sand down the tube just a little bit. You guys recommend that?

I have put a dozen flights on my Revolver so far and most things have worked out o.k. The wing tube was quite stiff initially but it's good now - if it is hard to seat in the wings try some graphite powder first.
The wheel pants showed some minor cracking so I added some glass cloth in the areas of high stress. The cowl screws backed out in the first few flights so I put some PVA / yellow glue on the threads and they have stayed in place ever since.
Apart from those minor issues the plane is a joy to fly. The DLE 20 provides plenty of power and the airframe is very stable. It knife edges with a little coupling but that was easy to mix out. I can't wait to get the motor fully run in and then I will really punch some holes in the sky.
I love it.

Hey guys - quick question about the LiFe source batteries - I noticed there is a balance lead. The onyx charger I have supports balancing but is it necessary to balance every time I charge? I have a LiFe 2100mAh 2 Cell

Okay folks, it's 90% done. Only thing left is the throttle linkage. The rear exhaust really makes it a tight fit so I ordered some nylon flex tubing which will hopefully do the trick. Does anyone know if the nylon tubing is heat proof? It's going to run really close to the exhaust, may even touch it.
Ended up moving the rudder servo to the back due to too much binding and stress on the servo. So far CG is maybe an 1-1.5 inches back from recommended. I left the IBEC exposed, I hope that's okay. both batteries and IBEC have foam under them to dampen vibrations. Hopefully I can get this thing in the air this weekend. Beautiful plane once it's all pieced together though!

Do you have a separate battery for the IBEC? If so, why? Defeats the purpose of what it stands for. Also make sure you have some foam under the IBEC and I'd unwrap the battery foam. No need for them to stay warm and comfy. Just pad the bottom. As far as the throttle linkage, I wouldn't let any part of it touch the muffler even if it is a metal rod. You don't want engine vibration being transmitted to the linkage any more than necessary.

I generally balance charge every time, but nothing says you have to.
Regarding CG location, not sure of what you're used to or how often you fly, so I'm just going to say easy does it!
Regarding the landing gear reinforcements, I wasn't going to say anything, but thought the better of it. The primary function of the reinforcement should be to hold the gear mounting area/bottom of fuse to the firewall. Secondary, some guys will reinforce the gear itself, where it mounts to the bottom of the fuse. I stole somebody's pic from a while back as I thought it might display an easy way to do what amounts to the heaviest (strength wise, not weight) and easiest way I've seen to do both to date. -Al

Thanks for the tip on the battery. To be honest I haven't flown in like 8 years but the last plane I flew was a Funtana 100X which had a CG pretty far back. You're right, though, maybe for the first few flights I'll leave this one where it's recommend it and go from there.

That's just angle alum. that can be cut easily with a hacksaw. If you want to get fancy, dress the cut with a file.
Lacking angle scraps laying around, you can also use alum. sheet, Cut to size with tin snips, and bend to a 90 degree angle. The stuff they use when roofing works perfect (flashing). Either, short lengths of angle or sheet, available at Lowes or Home Depot pretty reasonably (5.00?). -Al

I can't remember the post number but this one ilektron nut job was looking for information about carrying a 1.5 pound payload and when asked about what the payload was he said he couldn't say. I forgot who called him out on it but he left right after that. I don't know if he returned or not since this is a LONG thread. Anyway, one way or another is sounded like he was up to no good.
