RE: ESM Lavochkin LA-7 80
no, mine didn't come with a dummy radial
I'm trying to get a parabolic shaped spinner (P-51 shape isn't really scale on this bird)
If I go with a 4-1/2" or maybe 5" spinner you won't see much of a dummy anyway and the engine could sure use the extra airflow.
thinking of using an MPI spinner (3-blade), Here's their link.
http://www.maxxprod.com/mpi/mpi-11.html
Just got my Sierra retracts and air kit and boy they are beautiful.
Need a 1/5 scale pilot figure if you have any sources (full body)
Best.

Thaba,
Spinner looks great, I may use the same one. and nice job on the tail wheel.
If you're doing an electric motor set-up, you may think about painting that spinner red to match the original scheme.
Since I have a gas motor I often use the big electric starter which would just damage a spinner paint job.
If the new engine starts easily by flipping, I may paint my spinner red.
I'll know for sure once its fully broken in.
I just finished my cockpit (got the one from TY at VQ Warbirds.
It is a beautiful kit, very well designed and the install videos make it a breeze to install.
also just finished installing the flush hinged switch covers on the fuse side (didn't want to see three switches and charge jacks sticking out)
got my new 50C RCGF gas engine on the test stand and its running like a clock.
should be getting the engine mounted soon.
will try to send you some pictures in a day or so.
working on the installation of the sierra retracts now.
needs quite a bit of cutting and reinforcing to get them where I want them.
Ideally I'd like to have the axle out near the leading edge of the wing when they're down.
not sure this will be possible and still have the door covers fit flush.
What type retracts you going with??
David

David, Thanx for the comments.
I went with the standard ESM retracts.
Do you have any idea of the "name/code" of the colour for the spinner? It is an odd colour.....!
Please post some photo's of your switch hatch and the cockpit kit.
My cockpit kit is on order.
Seems as if i will have to extend my servo tray to the rear to mount my Lipo's since the ballance point is well foreward of the CoG.
Did you need to add any weight to ballance yours?
Regards
Carel

RE: ESM Lavochkin LA-7 80
by the way,
whose tailwheel did you use (I like it)
I wasn't planning on do a pneumatic one, but like what you did.
Do you mind if I copy it??

OK.... don't keep it a secret!! What tail wheel IS that?? and where did you place the switch hatch? I have some rare earth magnets to keep it closed, but placement is got me thinking.
I just got my scale spinner from VQ and boy, is it nice!! . The backplate is pretty heavy, but noseweight is always welcome in useful sources! There is a little more machining on it than I anticipated, but it is simple ,and will only take a little more time to make it right.

Be careful with nose weight as I had to add weight to the tail of mine
Here's a shot of my "cheap" dummy engine. I just photo copied a radial engine and stuck it on some sheet foam and glued it inside the cowl. Put some holes in it for cooling and it's been great.

The retractable taiwheel can be found here:
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbyking/s...nding_Gear_set.
and the actuator here:
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbyking/s..._Actuator_25mm
I hav'nt decided where to place the hatch yet but it will most likely be behind the cockpit because foreward it it fullhouse and since I want to install a cockpit I cant put it there either. Currently my model is ballancing with the batteries close to the COG position with some room to move them forward, hence the decission.
i am waiting for a spare spinner and a cockpit from VQ but this is Africa, nothing burocratic moves fast around here.
I have tested three ESM retract set's selector valves all three leaked. This stuff is highgrade junk! I asked the local distributor for advice after I tried to install thicker o-rings and tried thicker grease with no success. Their short answer was: "Get Robart valves"
Anybody else have any ideas on how to get these units to work?
If I have to replace all the valves for my Spitfire, ME-109, FW-190, Sept. Fury, B-25, PC 21, LA-7 and KI -84 it makes a tidy sum, especially at the prices we pay locally for Robart components

It is just frustrating to pay good money for something you cannot use. Why cant the distributer/manufacturer just make sure the product that he put on the market work! What happened to pride, was it replaced with greed......?

Distributors are at the mercy of the manufacturers. They have no control over the quality of products. If they hold out for better quality then they will end up selling nothing and then you will miss out too. Catch 22. It sux but thats the reality of the RC market today. It will get better but not till someone offers a better product for the same price or lower. Dont hold your breath.....!
