Yep, that's cool. The Soviets had some nice looking airplanes during the war. It would be great if more were available in the RC world.

RE: ESM Lavochkin LA-7 80
Has the LA-7 been released anywhere else but in South Africa? it has been available since mid December.
I saw one at a local HS today and I liked it, especially the 80" wingspan.
I have to choose between the KI 84 and the LA-7.
Any pointers to help me decide will be helpfull.
Regards
Thaba Raptor

RE: ESM Lavochkin LA-7 80
I have flown both planes, but different kits and smaller size (.40 size). The Ki-84 flies like a P-47 and is not as manuverable as the LA7. The LA7 is a fast plane and has a nasty tip stall if you get too slow, but it a great flying plane and looks better (IMO). I have one on order with VQ and am WAITING for it to arrive (not waiting well [:@])
The LA7 is larger than the Ki84 from ESM so it depends on that too.

I am also leaning more to the Lavochkin La-7. It is an unusual model and it looks good. Just a pitty there is so little information available about it in the internet.

I'll be waiting for them to be available in Australia!

I understand that there may be kits available from Austars in April 2010. I've seen on some reviews that flying weight is 7.7kg, which means a heavy model certification is needed.

Thaba Raptor, What is it you are looking for?
It was basically an all wooden aircraft from the cockpit back and all the wings excpet for a small metal strip where the dihedral changes ..must have been where they glued the two sections together.
I've got both the Ki-84 and the LA-7 here at the moment..I prefer the Ki84 as its got more scope for detailing etc...
I've attached some pics of the weathering on the LA-7 for info..

Wayne, Nice work mate....
One annoying flaw that seems common with some of the newer ESM releases is the canopy moulding quality, The LA-7 looks to have a very thin and flimsy green house from all the pics Iam seeing, it is one area that ESM could improve upon...
By the way if anyone is looking for ESM and KMP models within Australia or New Zealand we are dealers as well- http://www.jetfx.net
Cheers- Marty

hi Wayne,
Very nice weathering job...Thanx for the photo's
Where did you get the dummy radial?
I will be doing myne electric. How would you protect your weathering details on an electric plane since there are no need for fuel proofing.
Regards

Hi Thabar Raptor,
As fare as I am aware here in the UK the dummy Radial comes in the Kit.
As for protecting the weathering any spray satin varnish would do or a craft fixative that is at least waterproof.
Good luck

About the dummy radial.....I wil go and check in my box. Working on my PC-21 at the moment 95% completed busy with the last 5% that takes 50%of the time.
Are you planning to model the fan behind the spinner? Any ideas in this regard will be appreciated as i also have to do the FW-190 as well in some point in the future
Carel.

Already spoken to Austars and indicated our club will buy several for some members....

Hope in that case that they are going to be stocking a truck-load of kits of the LA-7. I have a feeling they will be a very popular model in Oz. The LA-7 will be my 1st ESM kit. very impressed with the quality and range of kits they have, and with what others have done with them.

9.25" I think I heard
Mine is due here tomorrow, but I asked TBM the same question last week when I ordered it.
You may be better off with an inverted 50cc (as I'm planning) to reduce choppin up the cowl.
but a twin would sound awesome. don't think this is the nose for that twin.
just my 2C

Hi Wayne,
I have started on my LA-7.
Am going to try to use your method of hidden flap control arms on this one.
How dod you fixed the cowl? As per the manual or internal through the front?
I'll be making mine electric. Will assemble completely and ballance then decide whether I will need to cut a hatch or make a removable cockpit.
Cheers
