Skip,
What are you looking for in the plane? I would look at a little bigger wingspan for a 50cc. Look at wildhare. Performance Aircraft Unlimited. Extreme Flight, Troy build Models (Pilot RC) and 3D hobby shop. Those and others all have great offerings in a 50cc extra. I have the PAU one NIB and it looks awesome!!

Do yourself a HUGE favor and skip the Great Planes!!!! You will be sooo much happier with one of the ones mentioned above. You pay a little more but it is totally worth it. I used to have the GP 25%Yak and sold it. Got an EF 88" Yak and it truly is night and day difference above and beyond the lowly GP version!!

Aeroworks has some nice stuff also, it was early with no coffee when I posted above . Pick a model you want and then find a quality manufacturer of it. Check out the boards for opinions (there will be lots) and base the decision on those, price, looks etc...

Skip, If you are in Ga, I would drive my butt up to Extreme Flight and walk out the door with one of their planes. You would have some gas involved but you would save that in shipping and not have to worry about damage. Just a thought!

the second post has some great suggestions... all quality stuff (obviously I partial to one ) but you would probably be happy with any of them.
and while we do not have a show room and are just a warehouse and office, folks are always welcome to stop by!
Good to call first to make sure we have what you are looking for.

I flew the GP 27% Extra with an RCGF 50cc for a while. It is a very nice airplane. The 50 pulled it around great but you could probably get by with something in the mid-40cc range too.
That being said, the Aeroworks, Extreme Flight and others mentioned are absolutely outstanding as well. There is a lot of great stuff out there to choose from.

I really appreciate the information given guys. I have bought several models from ExtremeFlight which is about an hour and a half drive for me. I am leaning towards Extreme flight, Aeroworks, and Wild Hare. Let me say that my decision will be not only based on quality but spare parts and customer support.( Not that I ever crash!! LOL. ) Skip

You cant go wrong with Wild Hare, Aero_works, or SD Models(Thunder tigre/ace rc) ive had all three.....i would have to say from my experience the Aero-Works was probably the vbest built, and all the hardware is top notch...only thing i didnt use was the fuel tank, i like dubro tanks and stoppers
There are other excellent mfgs out there like extreme flight, pilot models, PAU, and

I own extreme flight and with them being as close as they are I would be beating their door down for either their Extra or the New Edge!!. I would be all over that babeee. The EF Yak is the only plane I have flown that flies as well inverted as upright. Absolutely no stick pressure needed inverted..

If you want to fly a 3D gasser don't waste your time with Greatplanes. They make excellent sports planes (I own several), but when you get up the 50cc size and start spending big $$$ on engine and servos you want quality.
At that size the best value for money is Composite ARF (CARF). Their planes cost about the same as a Greatplanes 27-30%, but are fully moulded. When if comes to 3D there's no doubt how good you are you will deck a plane and when this happens the GP planes will just crumble. I have a CARF EXTRA 300 2.1 with a DA50 and it's absolutely amazing to fly.

CA Models aerobats look beautiful. However, their method of purchasing a model seems cumbersome. I couldn't find a price anywhere which means they are expensive. It would be a thrill to get advice from Jason Shulman and heed his methods. But I Think I would rather deal with a guy on the phone knowing all the facts up front. This in no way degrades what looks like a really superior product. I am not a real patient buyer and I often look for some sort of sale offering because I am a retiree and not rich. All said, having spoken to both Aeroworks and Wild Hare, they get my vote for super people to deal with. DA engines, while pricey, have awesome customer service, worth the extra money to purchase an engine.

I came in (by searching) to check out how good composite arf's are.
I also do not recommend great planes. It is a nice looking model, but the one I have has serious rudder coupling issue.
Terminology might be wrong, but what I mean is when I use rudder even a bit, pitch drops like crazy.... with this issue, I can't do any basic maneuver.
Aero-works was very nice and is strongly recommended.
Guys, how is composite arf by the way ?
I'm in the same market and I lean toward composite arf simply because they guys I admire mostly flew it and have a belief it'll last longer than wood kits.
Thanks,

I am in process of assemblying and Extreme Flight 78" Extra 300. I have a thread started in the Pattern Forum. I may bring that thread over to this forum
If you like gasoline, try the SAP 30cc. Very strong engine and will work well with the Extreme Flight Extra 300 due to the light weight. It would not be difficult to get the model under 12 pounds on this power plant.
I intend to run a pipe on mine which allows turning much larger props, but the pipe is not necessary. I want a bunch of performance out of mine so the extra stuff is required in my application.
This particular Extra is a little loger tailed than the AeroWorks, Great Planes, Wild Hare, etc., which means a groovier flying model. It was designed by Pattern/IMAC competitors so the precision of flight will be second to none

All I can say is Comp ARF. For a 50cc check out their 2.1m Extra 300. It's only $599 USD.

But it's probably a better fit to fly an 11 1/2 lb plane with this engine for a thrust to weight of 2:1. Wing loading is better than 1lb/100 square inches which will make a very spritely performing model. And at 450$ fully decked out in a nice color scheme is a pretty good deal too. Just my preference and experience

REALLY!!??
Just exactly WHERE have you seen this plane?
Because as of yet I don't think other than one or two sent for reviewing there IS one to be seen.
Plus it's been over a year since they started touting this plane with nothing shipping into this country yet...........

Ok Skip you have done it now.....................where all waiting to see what you see fit.
What is on offer is a banquet of planes all with their own attributes so personal choice and research is going to be the clincher. My choice is the Aeroworks 300 Extra ( the QB series is that very quick to build ) quaility in both build and hardware was top notch. I have heard of some trouble with the fuel tanks but I have used the one supplied no troubles.
In the air nothing but a pleasure (set up for Imac ) and landing is a walk in the park.
Powered by a DLE 55 on KS Cans swinging a Mejzlik 21x11.5 3-blade prop . JR servo's all round
Good luck and enjoy all that is on offer
Note the DLE 55 are a great price over @ Hobby King right now

I have previously recommended Aero-Works.
On the second thought after this lengthy e-mail exchanges with them, I do NOT recommend AW anymore.
It's not becuase of quality of the kit, but rather quality of their after-sales attitude.
What happens is Mark Dennis had major attitude issues which I reported to Rocco Morianni since Mark wasn't helping at all.
Rocco has the same attitude of not answering specific questions and now not returning at all. He simply told me to wait like 2 weeks ago.
I was hoping to inform him of his employee's unprofessional handling of after sales care, but he is just the same.
Maybe I should start a thread on this issue.
