Aero-Works S2 Cub ARF !!!
Check this out!
[link]http://www.aero-works.net/store/detail.aspx?ID=402[/link]
Looks nice. It is a quick build. But can someone please tell me why it is
"Canister Ready" ??? Do they expect flyers of this ARF to do 3-D with it?
LOL Why would they make a ridiculous canister setup for it! The bottom of
the fuse and cowl are hacked up. Why not leave it a nice scale Model?????

RE: Aero-Works S2 Cub ARF !!!
Noise Restriction on a Cub? Cub's are the quietest, gentlest birds in the air.
If that is the case I still think they did a bad job choosing a canister setup
and DA-50 engine. Why not keep this airplane scale, throw in a smaller gasser
inside the cowl,,, not hack up the bottom of the fuse. It just does not make
sense in my opinion. I think canisters also somehow add to the performance
of engines, sort of like a tuned pipe. Canisters are used on Giant 3D and IMAC
planes in the 27-40% range.

Did a tour of the AeroWorks warehouse over the holidays. A major operation they have. They did say that its difficult for them to sell larger (50cc +) planes that are not canister ready due to so many noise restrictions back East. They also talked about how color selection impacts sales. Orange is the hot color right now. If you ever get a chance to take a tour of their facility its worth doing. Jerry.

Cubs are gental flyers, I've owned four from 60 size to 1/3 scale, But gas engines can be noisy. I use canisters in my 40% extra but I would use the Pitts style muffler for this bird. It will not be as quite as the canister, but I think it looks better.

AirplaneMan04,
I have been flying my S2 Sport Cub since the middle of last summer. I have the DLE 55 swinging a XOAR 22X8 prop on the business end. This is a great combo and the plane flys great. I am using the custom Jtec pitts muffler form Aeroworks. It fits inside the cowl for a clean look. I don't mind the noise. There is a pretty good size thread going here http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_9747956/tm.htm with a lot of info.

AirplaneMan04,
This is all about preconceived ideas, prejudices if you like. Canister are automatically just for 3D. Why? Cubs are quiet? Why? Cubs powered by a 50cc gasoline motors are NOT quiet! 50 cc gas motors with a canister are quiet. Personally I applaud AeroWorks for the courage to market a ARF with a canister set up.

Cannisters are optional. IMACers use cannisters to get extra points for quiet engines. I personally don't like the header stuck out through the side of the cowl in their ads. I would go with a pitts style muffler. Maybe it won't be so obvious as the header. I have used some of those Silent Beauty mufflers from TBM. They are fairly quiet.
