I'm thinking seriously about getting this plane.

Has anyone installed the newer DLE 30 w/ rear mounted carb? What size standoffs are used in lieu of the wood box?

I'm installing the DLE30 with standard standoffs. There are directions you can download on how to install the DLE30

Not much to it, use fender washers to move the engine forward 1/4" or buy the 1/4 shims that areoworks sells.

hello all, I just finished my Cessna 195, install a saito 180 inverted exactly as the manual says, I have a problem the engine is flooding , it appears that the fuel tank is above the carburetor, someone had this problem? as they have solved?

Check into a device called a Cline Fuel Regulator.

How is the saito?
some have no issues with a setup like this and some have issues..
I have found that you will need to clamp the fuel line when not running or install a perry pump...
for 4-stroke... this will correct the issue..
Cline regulators are very exspensive, and non existant...

move the tank down??

Anyone have a flight report that has flown this with a 4 Stroke? What 4 Stroke are you using and is it enough power?

I've flown mine with a Saito 180 as the manual says, Power??? more than enough, But I'm not happy for several reasons:
1) The carburetor is considerably lower than the fuel tank, which occasions me to flood the engine , I called aero-works, they said that I have to make a loop (Fuel Line)above the tank and then down to the carburetor, I did it and not anymore indeed filled with fuel.
2) I have nothing against Saito, these engines must be magnificent, but I have had bad experience with the 180 in this plane, it seems that there is difference in fuel pressure for the modification I made to the fuel hoses recommended by aero-works, the engine in flight begins to have high and low rpm, with this I feel nervous and uncomfortable, I'll change the engine to a 30cc petrol and I hope my problem with this will be over, good luck

Well, hoping the thread is still alive!

Just finished a red 195 with the DLE-30 (converted from a side-draft carb to a rear-draft). Spinning a Xoar 19X8 WWII round-tip prop. Plenty of power available. Awaiting the right weather for the fist flight.

I removed the wheel pants and installed some 4.5" DuBro air-filled scale tires with white-painted rims. As some threads have said, it does not appear the stock aluminum landing gear will take much in the way of bumps before bending. I fly off of grass and the runway is not as smooth as it could be, which is why I will not be flying the initial flights with wheel-pants. Might need to give T-N-T landing gear the measurements and have them bend me a nice solid gear.

She does balance a few degrees nose-down with no fuel. Sounds like this is preferred to actual level balancing.

I have been flying mine off of grass for the past year without any problems. The gear looks a little spindly, but I haven't bent one yet. I have the red/wht also, nice airplane.

How does yours balance. I've read that if nose heavy, it's not all that bad. What has been your experience.

Maidened mine last night.

Boy, the thread was right, if this bird balances a little nose heavy, that's definately not a problem.

The DLE-30 has tons of power for this bird. My ship took off within about 30-feet in a light breeze and the throttle never made it to full! Virtually all flying was at 1/4 to 1/3 throttle. Except for a little down-trim, everything was perfect. Landing with and without flaps are absolutely beautiful, but with the relatively light springy landing gear, a greaser is elusive...but I'll keep working on it. As Dick Pettit said in his review, virtually the best first flight you could ever have.

Have recently flown the Cessna 195 a little more, getting more used to it, particularly in the landing phase of flight.

The aircraft seems to like wheel-landings the best. Trying to three-point her down will result in some pretty good bouncing back in the air, as the landing gear is not very stiff. I found dropping the first notch of flaps on downwind, which will cause a pitch-down attitude, but if you control the speed of the flap deployment, you have time to adjust to the change in pitch, allow the aircraft to slow down and then you'll find you'll be in a good decent for landing with no change in trim. I added the second notch of flaps on about mid-base leg, which again, will cause some downward pitching of the nose, but it really just sets you up with the proper decent profile for landing. Shortly after turning final, I reduced the power to idle. Once the speed begins to bleed off, you actually have to add some down-elevator as the flaps will begin to bring the nose up instead of pitching down. Bring her in for a main-wheel landing and as soon as the mains touch, add a little down elevator to keep the mains planted and prevent any bouncing back into the air. Once you get the technique just right, you'll find she's very enjoyable to fly.

Touch-and-go's after a full-flap landing are not that difficult to control. You'll have to be sure the nose does not pitch up too sharply when you add power, so feeding a little down-elevator in helps, while you reach for the flap switch to reduce flaps to half, then to full up. I'm quite impressed how well she flies. So far, I have two Aeroworks aircraft and they are just about the best looking and flying aircraft I have.
