I'm not sure what you mean by "offset".

If you mean thrust angles... they are 1.5 degrees of down thrust and 1.5 degrees of right thrust. I measured this accurately last night.

The difference is obtained by measuring the difference between the firewall versus the front of the mounting box.

If you are instead asking for the engine centerline. You DO NOT need it.

Simply point the fusalage straight up, lay the engine on your new mounting box, put the cowl on and adjust the engine position until the prop thrust washer is centered in the cowl.

Then carefully remove the cowl without bumping or removing the engine, and mark the position of the standoffs.

This will give you a more accurate placement than the provided lines.

BTW: the provided lines were a joke. The upper vertical line was offset from the lower vertical line by about 4-6mm on my plane.

The Decals on yours look great.


Anyone have any pointers on getting the decals on?

Did you cut out the individual letters on ALL of the decals?

How did you do the kerning?

That's right, I was asking for the difference between the center of the firewall and the center of the engine (the engine axis).
But, I will follow your advice and place the engine on the firewall using the cowl as an alignment tool.You're right, that's the way to go.

Finished.

Main gear support bolt broke immediately during installation.

The crossbolt is poorly brazed on. I had to fabricate a new crossbolt and both clamp and solder it in place.

I've just finished putting together my Black Horse Gilmore with a modification to the undercarriage that I'm hoping will lessen the chance of damage to the spats. Basically I've tied the spats to the axles and allowed the spats to slide up and down with the wheels, to prevent them coming in contact with the ground on landing. Yet to test them out, will let you know. I'll take some photos soon to show anyone who's interested. I've fitted a NGH 38cc petrol/gas 4stroke for a more authentic sound.

On mine I glassed the spats on the inside as well as the cowl with 3 passes on each.

Then I cut a slight oval where the strut nuts would hit the spats to eliminate that possibility. You can barely see this in the photo above.

That seems to work, and the added fiberglass not only makes the spates so much stronger, but it also holds them in position against the struts.

A sad day for me. My Gilmore Red Lion went in today at full throttle. I lost control of the plane near the end of the second flight. Everything is distroyed, batteries, plane, servos, receiver and the engine is badly damaged. I'm not sure I will have the engine repaired because it is no longer in production and it would be a costly repair. I could not even reduce the throttle setting so I suspect the receiver battery failed or became disconnected or there was a switch failure. I am very sorry that I lost that great flying plane and great running engine.

OK, long dead thread, but it seems to be the best one to ask on here. Does anyone still have the instructions for this kit, specifically the page with the recommended throws? I read this whole thread and it doesn't seem to be here. If I don't get an answer, I'll just start with the ones from the Pilot-1 kit (same size, from the HobbyExpress website). Thanks!

I probably still have the manual somewhere.

I still fly my plane.

If recall correctly you want no more than 1 to 1-1/2" movement AT MAX up and down in the elevator, or it gets too sensitive. In practice, with that dialed in, I still had my low rates set to give me about 50-60% of that with 50% expo so it doesn't need a lot.

For the ailerons I dialed in everything I could get trying to obtain 40 degrees, but if I believe I ended up with about 25-30 degrees for my high rate.

I'll see if I can't find the manual page.

I'm VERY interested with this build and thread.

First, my name is Gilmore, but not affiliated the "Gilmore Oil" tycoons. (sadly, lol)
I joined a local flying club and I'm learning to fly from 2-3 great pilots.I also bought the Great Plains training program.
When I get to the point that I can fly without a trainor and can fly even semi-tough to fly, I will buy a Gilmore Red Lion Racer ARF setup ! It's a life goal,....or MUST !
I defiantly want a radial 250cc or maybe a 2 cylinder 4 stroke. (NA, gotta have a radial) It must sound like, waaaa, eeeeuouooo (get my drift ?)

So, I'll ask for any help & advise, as long as it doesn't change this thread !
