I ordered one direct on the 19th. I saw no other way to order one. Same plane, different color (or/wht), DLE30 combo. Haven't received it yet. Will holler when it arrives if you'd like?

ahicks,

Let me know when you get your plane and how the box looks as far as damage for such a long trip from New Zealand.

nitro wing,

I've been thinking about direct shipement with free shipping but I've already had one horror story with a plane from outside the US. I really hate to try my luck again.

You've got it... now that it's actually been shipped it shouldn't take too long.

I've ordered a couple of planes from overseas with good luck so far. Gotta expect a turd now and then I suppose though?

Surprise! According to the EMS tracking info they've (finally) given me, it took them 48 hours to ship from the time they said it would be "shipped today".

Agreed to a point, but I believe bad info is worse than none many times... due to time wasted finding out what you have is wrong?

Will do.

Plane arrived today, finally. Had to check it out right away of course, and at first glance it really does look pretty good. Appears to be really light, glue where there should be, none where there should not. VERY nice covering job. I can't find anything to complain about regarding that. 2 problems noted. First, no hint of anything resembling directions. Rookie builders beware! Second, the canopy is tinted fairly dark, and the white paint applied to it appeas to be too thin. It's a different color than the covering, and also the cowl. Shouldn't be that hard to take care of, just an irritation, or maybe just being picky. Also, looking like the motor box will need to be sectioned/shortened for use with the DLE rear carb. No big deal. Had to do the same with the Funtana. Speaking of the Funtana, this plane appears though it may be even lighter (less than 10.5lbs)? We'll see.... Pretty impressed going into it, will lkely be a good month messing with it, but hope to get the maiden out of the way prior to the weather getting too nasty to do that. Heard a lot about these DLE's, can't wait to see what all the commotion is all about. FWIW

ahicks,

Glad to hear your plane came in ok. I'm not sure what you mean by cutting the engine box down. Can't you just cut a hole in the engine box so the carb can fit inside and use shorter stand-offs like in the pic?

Without a doubt, and I may try that just to try something different. My thought though, is that needle valve and linkage adjustment access is compromised? Maybe not though. I'll look into it further.

On the Funtana I simply cut a 1" slice out of the center of the box using a razor saw a side at a time. It cuts on a microfine line very easily and as long as everything is marked up square you end up with a joint that's easily glued back together using ply plates on the inside of the box - overlapping each side of the joint by an inch or more. There should be no strength compromised this way. I also used the opportunity of easy access to everything (while apart) to beef up the box using hard balsa triangle stock. Despite much abuse (blown landings resulting in chin first arrivals), nothing ever let go.

Hi Guy's,
Trying to revive this thread. No intent on Hijacking thread. I just received my Yak from peak models (the one that Zippi has the picture of). I am going to put
a 26cc CRRC pro in it, and Hitec Hs645mg on all surfaces. (133oz @ 6.v). I see some guy's are using way more powerful servos than this. I had these same servos
in my Twist 150 with the 26cc and never had any problems.(theTwist has more wing surface than the Yak) I didn't get a manual with mine. Anyone flying this plane
now. Any suggestions on battery placement for weight, gas tank install, any info would be great as like I said no manual. I tried to contact many times(by e-mail)
but they are ignoring me.

613bobski,

Keep trying, you may end up with a manual. That was what happend to me once before. Once they had my money and the plane was shipped they were done with me. How is the quality and looks of the plane? Give us some pics.

It was in excellent shape. The covering is very impressive. The plane looks much better than in the pictures on there web site. I have been assembling
the plane without the manual. I found an online manual from an older model, very vague. I just used common sense. The only real problem was which way
the out put shaft for the elevator servos were to be placed. I used the length of the hardware to determine where. I will balance the plane at 5-1/3 inches
as per the old manual. I will also balance using the wing root. I will only fly in the spring when the snow is gone. All in all for what I received and what I paid
it is a real bargain.[sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif]

I will post some pics later when my camera is repaired.

613bobski,

Can you tell me what the dimension from the engine box to the end of the prop hub is? Thanks.

I have not mounted the engine yet but it will be 4-15/16 " or 125mm. I had someone make me some 35 mm standoffs (1-3/8").
I am mounting the engine a bit more forward than it should be as to balance the tail heavy plane. (although I don't have manual).
Educated guess. Much easier to ad a little weight in the rear than to ad lots in the nose. I could move batteries to rear of plane or vise
versa. I installed the cowl and that is how I got my measurements.

613bobski,

Thanks for the info. My G26 has been modified and I need a minimum of 6" so looks like this plane is not going to work. The new Aeroworks Edge 540 and Extra 300 both have a dimension of 6 1/2". Been looking at those for a while.
