ASM LANCASTER 120" BUILD ALONG
Well I'v had this model around 3 weeks now and today I pulled it out of the box .This is the second time that its been out but this time is out for good. There is only one word for it 'huge'
I hope there are others out there that will join the program with reports of there progress and help with the problems faced on the way. I hope that I'm not the only person in the world , to ever get one.
Any way I started ,and as the book said I started with the setting up the servos in the wing, well that where it stoped as the blocks to screw the servo to are missing or they are not suplied ,which ever. I went through the box of bits 3 times . There not there,so that is my first Question to any one else that has one. I rang a mate that has a drop saw and they will be cut Saturday morning. All for now Yours Paul T

RE: ASM LANCASTER 120
bladebender That was what I was wondering but I had a good look around and man there is a lot of parts in the box. I require 12 blocks for the job there is only 8 in the bag with hinges which indecates that they are for the wheel well bays doors. In am sure that I'm right. I have cut twelve new ones and have installed 2 of the servos and all looks OK. I did go through the box of bitts and checked 3 times they are not there I am sure as other people start there builds they will find the same problem or the first few of the line may have been completed a bit quick.. Time will tell. The big bag of parts was opened by me and had not been disturbed since it left he factory. Yours Paul T

WhoDaMan Dave I would like to go with OS 56 Alphs but I have 3 Saito 65s so at the present the saito might be the go. Do you get that commercial over your side ,its a few years old now. As for electric no way it just needs the sound of a four stroke.

Dave I do like the kit,I took it to our club meeting and all thought it was great for the money. On the twins thread there is great goings on regarding the USA price , the USA price is high compared to here in Australia. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_84...mpage_4/tm.htm Hope you had a look. I'm broke so no more gear till the bills are payed still getting over the last big spend up. This was not the only kit that came home that week. You may laugh but I went down to Melbourne and bought it home on the train. there was no way it will fit in the car and the trailer was not an option as it was wet.Quality is good ,not as strong as the TF Mitchel B25 but still great. It sounds like they will be out in the US on the 21st of setember. yours Paul T

Just a word of advice here. For what its worth my other half ,the love of my life, had no idea the size of this thing, when it arrived home and for this reason it had to come out of the box slow. Its taken 4 weeks to finaly get it all out and pushed togher on the tubes ,as we both use the shed and its was 50-50 it now 75-25 .all the horse gear is now in a smaller place. Had I arrived home and had it jump out of the box there would have been trouble. I will add a photo later. Yours Paul

Had a good chat with the bloke that flew the one below ,he solved my problem with the blocks that are not pressent in the box for the servos .they supply a box to hold the servos in place. because I've started with blocks iI will stay with that method. I was also told that 5 1/2 inch wheels are to big and 5 inch work better, but its hard to get wheels thin enough to fit the undercarrage. Anyway have a look at the photos after one engine went out.

I am wondering when some one on your side of the world will start one as when there are very few about there is realy no one to talk to and get advice etc as you go through the assembley. Next week I will power two other aricraft with two of the engines, two give them a good run and tune before installing them in the lancaster Then the next week I will repowe the same aircraft and check the next two motors and tune them. the weather is fantastic here in Australia so I have been flying and not building . went 3 times last week. Any way I will do a little this coming week Yours Paul T

Well this is the line up of power for my lanc 4 x Saito 65s they will be test ran this weekend on the club test stand reve checked and tuned under the watchfull eye of club mate Norm. All but two servos are at hand so I'm out of reasons why this baby can't be finished. Hope to report lots of progress next week. Yours Paul T PS Just incase there is a real Saito collecter out there looking for faults the 3 motor along is a 72 however the other 65 is in a P40 that will be removed tonight and then all will be correct. How your eye for detail.

Thjngs are a bit slow on the Lancaster I'm at the stage of test runing the 4 saito 65 The first one has been tested and ran in a trainer to to make sure that they run perfectly smooth at all speeds with no flat spots. Engine no 2 will be installed this week for a test flight in the same trainer. When all motors meet the required standard they will be installed. All is good so far. Yours Paul T

RE: ASM LANCASTER 120
Just ordered the Lancaster from VQ Models. Fairly stout price tag at 1299.00 US but shipping was only 25.00 to send halfway across the country. First 4 engine bomber, have a 29 lb Tigercat now so flying it should not be a problem. It will be electric, probably 60-90 size electrics. I like use larger electric motors so they are not having to run at there limit to keep it in the air. What size servos do they call for?
