Giant Model Products Introduces a 50cc GeeBee R3 ARF

Hello Everyone!

I wanted to let everyone know that I just received the FIRST 50cc GeeBee R3!! It is AWESOME!!!! The quality and build are GREAT!!!! The plane is completly built-up. I have taken LOTS of pictures of it. I will be posting them ALL!!! the 50cc is BIG!! I am going to be putting a Red Lion 58cc on this one. I really think that if you want to be really fast a DA85 or a 3W-55 to a 85 will work GREAT!!!

When unpacking I was looking at EVERYTHING for ANYTHING!! Well I found them!!
1. I noticed BOTH wheel pants had cracks in them.
2. The cowl was cracked and damaged ring.
Now, I think this was done by shipping. it came EMS. I will be contacting the company and getting them replaced AND making sure they are packaged better.

Now, everything else was, I was in AWE....... Construction and wood are great!! Everything is lazer cut. Hinging is all predrilled for you and robart type hinges are used. The plane DOES have split flaps!! VERY COOL!!! ALSO the vertical stabs ARE removeable! The canopy is all one piece from front to back of plane!! So far I am happy with this plane!! The hardware package is really good! It comes with twin metal cotrol links. The landing gear wires are 1/4 inch. It comes with flying wires and the wheels are 4 inch, plastic hubs. It also comes with engine drill guide for DA and 3W. Tail wheel is anodized aluminum. Now, the tubes are also aluminum, carbon will be available for a extra charge.

I will keep you posted on the build of this model, and if there are any other issues.

I am very excited to read your post. I fly a giant scale GEEBEE model Y as my primary plane. Our company logo is the GEEBEE fantasy plane you are writing about.

Today I started to put on the graphics. OK... NOT GOOD!!!! Well lets say that the material is great, but the cutting is not!!! I have had to recut some of the letters wear the lazer did not cut. So, I sent them a not to redue the lettering and send me new ones, because these don't/won't work!
I am very happy with the construction with the plane!! It is built GREAT!!! The motor mount is really nice! It has tri-stock on the outside and on the inside. I will however be using hysol to make it stronger!

Some of you maybe asking yourself why I am cutting my own product up??? Well, for those who don't know me from TBM I tell it like it is!!!! I am a flyer and I hate JUNK!!! I spend my money on planes and want good to GREAT quility!! So saying that, I hope you understand, that I want you to be happy also!

Too bad they didn't make it a model of a real airplane. Ok for fun flying I guess, though.

gjhinshaw,

OMG, I just happen to have a 3W60 sitting unused in my shop. The only problem is that it's an old side intake version and I wonder if the cowl is wide enough to conceal the carburetor. Now you have me thinking. A long time friend of mine and fellow flyer is crazy about Gee Bee's. He actually has a 60 size ARF that looks like your R3. If I showed up at my flying field with your 50cc version, He would die ! ! ! ! !....:D

LOL...... He would have to by one too!! HEHE..... The cowl is 8in. x 7in. This is at the front.

Graphics are on. Great looking plane when together.

Beautiful plane. My concern would be the overall strength of the landing gear supports. There is a lot of leverage coming off those long legs working against the supports. What type of reinforcement is used?

Also, whereabouts is Lathrop?

RE: Giant Model Products Introduces a 50cc GeeBee R3 ARF

The landing gear will be fine. The 2 wires come down and are welded together. Lathrop is 35 miles North of KC on I-35 at exit 40.

Do you have an idea what the wing loding is on the 50cc. I really like GeeBees, I have the Y with G38 for engine and am finishing a 1/4 Page Aviation Gee Bee R2 that was given to me. But the R3 is very awsome. Can't wait for flight report.

What is the wing span? What is the proposed all up weight. I wonder if a Saito 450 R3 would work ok in it? How much is it going to sell for? Who is going to market it?

Hi Gerry, since you are in the note making mode of this bird how about a dummy radial for the front:D Just a suggestion and will the 50cc version have the wing wires, is the wing two piece, and by the way, the plane is gorgeous! The only other que for now is regarding the landing gear, looks like they have to be assembled in some way judging from the pics of the kit. Anyway, glad you are on your own and would like you to know that you were the only reason I did any business with TBM:D
Thanks for the post, will be keeping in touch because I want one of these babies!!! just need to determine if its going to be the 50cc or the 100cc, DA100, will it fit in the cowl of the 100cc version? I measured the engine 11" plug cap to plug cap, hope it fits:)

Best Regards

Go low if you wanna make a show

gjhinshaw,

Great looking model.

I had, (had) the small one, that was available, a year or two ago.

Also, kudos for your honesty.

"Graphics are on." What about the wings. Could use something there?

Need lettering for the wings?

Charles
