Hi,
Got mine the other day and I am still pawing through the box and the instruction book. There seems to be no mention of engine offset. What are your thoughts. I am putting in a DLE20 and the engine sits quite nicely in the factory setup. I am going to put in 1/4 inch spacers between the mount and firewall to give the engine mounting flange more mount to sit in and still ge the 150mm distance between the firewall and prop. Any advise would be appreciated from any and all quarters! Best regards A3 |

I used a DLE 20 in mine with no special/ additional spacers...Everything looks nice/ good and ready for action. Check out the pics on previous pages. if i'd add anthing extra it would be rubber grommets where the factory spacers meet the firewall. that might help absorb some of the vibration- but so far, mine's fine as-is.

I started working on mine this weekend. I am going to use a DLE 20 in my plane. Here is my question. All the pictures in the instruction book show the engine pointed straight with no offset to the right. No mention of engine offset in the planes. What are your thoughts? Most recent arf's these days have an offset built-in...I've found no need for it thus far.
( That's what I meant when I said nothing else is needed on my last post- as she is ready you your engine install with no spacers needed). |

Yes, this one also have an offset built in. I have checked during my electric conversion. Approx 2 degrees right trust.

I already have a DLE 30 so wondering if it will fit ok, if too much power easy to limit throttle and/or swing a bigger prop

I have a favor to ask of anyone who will.... I have an old H9 ULTRA pt19 that is in need of a new cowl. I know FGS has one, but I like the detail of the Seagull version (I like the whole kit better actually). Can you measure the height and width at the firewall, and the overall length of the cowl? This would be much appreciated Thank you!

I will take measures tomorrow.Here is my maiden video of my partly rebuildt Seagull PT-19 electric. I made No 105 since my flying buddy's uncle (Jens Müller, Spifire pilot and one of three to escape Stalag luft III) flew this plane in Little Norway and made an emergency landing after ripping off the rudder during a training flight. Got mine but still stuggling on what engine to fit, the DLE30 and crrcpro 26 are just to tight in regard to exhaust not enough room even for a homemade header, strongly leaning towards the DLE35RA easiest fit of the lot

Which servos are you using guys? Standard? High torque? I have just got mine and I can see the control surfaces are not that big.

20cc is overpowered- a 26 or 30 is crazy for this floater.
Std servos for this flyer are probably dine- even though they are large surfaces. If you fly scale that is. If one throws their plan yanking and banking- I'd move to high torques for sure. |
I fitted what I had in the draw, JR591 on elevators and rudder, 2 JR517 on ailerons, 2 hitec 645 on flaps, this model is not for 3d or prop hanging so standard servos are fine.
The JR517 is an old std ball raced servo, but has to be still one of the smoothest servos made, I have been using them for 20+ years and never had a problem, always picking them up second hand on ebay. |
Mine flies very scale with an OS 91 fs. I did have to add weight to balance. Fun to fly, but I'm still working on the landings. I'm gonna have to not float it in, just fly it in. And, the landing struts are terrible! I have just had to bend them back each time I fly. First had too much camber. Went straight down the runway, but bent easily. Now it is almost zero camber and a little caster. I also put the wires into a vice and heated them up and dropped them into cold water. They shouldn't bend again. I also had to sleeve the hole into the wing for a tighter fit. Dubro 4 inch inflateable tires with disc hubcaps added with canopy glue and we will try it again tomorrow.

The hardened wires seem to have done the trick. I epoxied the brass sleeve into the wing and now everything is secure. The oleos are still crappy. Landings now are a breeze. My flying Bud has a Hang 9 PT-19 and we do formation takeoffs and flights. A lot of fun. But, his is a 120 vs my 91 and his performance is much better. I will be wide open and he will be at half throttle, but we look good and scale. BTW, someone was wondering if the Seagull cowl will fit the Hang 9; no it won't. The Seagull is a little smaller.

hey guys, I almost finished with mine. do you guys have any video of yours flying? one of you guys said this plane is a floater, but the only videos on you tube shows them coming in hot? wing loading on my plane if its 12 pounds(should be less though) is around 28 ou/sq foot.

She can float, but without flaps & past 1/2 throttle, she can gain some speed, ...Don't worry about it. the plane is a trainer with basic aerobatic capabilities. Get yours to a good height and slow her down, see what she'll do with plenty of space between you and the round. You'll be able to see she's got a relatively wide performance envelope. The plane has a huge and thick wing, drop full flaps and use throttle management to control airspeed, fly her to the ground with throttle vs. cutting power to idle and gliding her in, you'll have more control and can avoid stall that way. (P.S. Keep your eyes peeled for her and let me know.) |
what do you consider full flaps? how much deflection. also where did you get that pilot from looks very nice. thx glenn

My PT 19 flies with a .91 Mag. It may just me but, I have to fly mine down to the ground, especially with flaps down. Many times I've been tempted to just float it in and flare just like a Cub and it bites my ass each time with a tip stall or a hard drop on the mains. Keep the power on till you are just inches off the ground.

Can anyone tell me if the Saito FA100 I bought this airplane for be powerful enough? I am having concerns. i can tell you it pulled a 90' cub around Very well and fast
