Hi Ceecrb1,
I am thinking of the going with a JTEC compact wraparound pitts to save chopping up the cowl for the stock DLE20 muffler. Do you think something like this would fit in there? JTEC also offer one with a 1/2inch header if thats better? Just didnt want to commit to buy if it wouldnt fit at all! Thank you for all your assitance |
RE: Seagull Super Tucano
If you can wait till tonight I have no problems in measuring the gap between the cylinder head and the cowl...
I am not entirely sure that it will full fit in, you may still have to open some up.. |
RE: Seagull Super Tucano
thank you ceecrb1, let me know what your investigation shows :)
|
RE: Seagull Super Tucano
For me, this is the photo that makes me think that no matter what, you still need to cut some cowl out.
http://images.rcuniverse.com/forum/u...82/Ji28975.jpg I will say however, that the colour match of the standard exhaust and the oracover is not too bad! In the club we actually spoke about how we noticed the oversized nose wheel far more than we noticed the exhaust. |
RE: Seagull Super Tucano
Half inch header might just work!? May need to ask if the header can be tapered slightly..... http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...ular_smile.gif
Thank you for posting image |
RE: Seagull Super Tucano
there is only about 15mm between the cowel and the cylinder where the exhaust is to be mounted....

You will want to read this thread about the DLE 20. Be careful about not loading up the engine enough. These little powerhouses have been bown up a few times by under proping http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_98...95/key_/tm.htm I like this plane, nice job on the documenting and covering the solutions to the gear issues, etc.. I almost bought this one but decided on the TF P-40 arf instead. It will have a DLE 20 also, it's my 3rd engine they are great and I will never go back to glow. My other planes are a PT-17 and a Ryan stm
|
RE: Seagull Super Tucano
thanks for the info.
Its not an issue I am ignoring, I have only made 2 flights with this plane, and as they were first flights on the dle20 I didnt give it full throttle by any means.... nice and relaxed for this and the usual breaking in reasons. I´ve been hunting around for a 3 bladed prop and spinner... but in the end I might just have to go with the 16x8 and make sure the runway is kept clean!! |
RE: Seagull Super Tucano
I've been looking at the prop issue and whilst I would love toget a 3blade it istoo much hassle (only metal 3blade spinner aroundthis size)
My solution is to go with anAPC 15x12 2blade - RPM's should be around the 8000 mark so not near max at all :) This thing is gonna fly quick! |
RE: Seagull Super Tucano
didnt know that was an option!
really should devote some time to this issue and do some proper research into what options there are...... |
RE: Seagull Super Tucano
neither did I until my hobby shop guy told me! It definately something to keep aware of and I don't want to have to worry about not going full power due to engine limitations
APC also doa crazy 15x13 (narrow version) http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...used_smile.gif http://www.google.co.uk/products/cat...ed=0CEUQ8wIwAg# Or this oneis nice if you go 3bladehttp://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f.../msn/49_49.gif http://www.sloughrc.com/default.asp?...id=E-LP3-15135 |
RE: Seagull Super Tucano
2x 15x12 ordered!
Now all I need is the replacement lifepo4's to arrive and I can get it back in the air!! The original life battery "popped" while charging it the other day....... |
RE: Seagull Super Tucano
Hi Ceecbr1, long time no speak! Has there been anymore flight videos please?
How did the 15x12 APCperform for you? |
RE: Seagull Super Tucano
No more flights as yet, I was only able to go to the club on sunday and there was really high winds...
the 15x12 is now installed and I manged to use the time to give the engine a far better tuning than it had (mostly because I added a tube to each carb screw so that I can find them through the cowel easily). Not much else to add! Have you managed to start building yours? Colin. |
RE: Seagull Super Tucano
yes in full throws of building at present, coming together well. Your thread has been very useful http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...ular_smile.gif
Still trying to work out where to put the choke lever!? How do you operate yours? |
RE: Seagull Super Tucano
ok yeah the choke for me caused a little head scratching too...
In the end I was "lucky" in that when I bought my trex 500 another club member gave me his crashed 500.... So, the pushrod for the choke was originally the tail pushrod, using the same ball-link, I screwed the ball to the choke arm.. Then I used parts I cut out of the 500 fuse to act as guide holes, which I screwed to the nylon engine mount.. and now there is a "C" shaped pushrod bending round the cylinder head so that it crosses across the front.... that gives me something to get at through the air intake under the spinner... Its one of those, there is no "right answer" cases... what you can make work with what you have is best..... I dont forsee needing to take the cowel off... but if I do i'll get a photo of it for you. I did also toy with the idea of just having a LONG screw bolted in the hole of the choke arm.... as this would point straight down, where you will have an air exit anyway.. it doesnt have to reach all the way.. just long enough so that you can find it by poking your finger in.... The only thing I will add... be carefull about where you fix the fuel tank vent line........ I managed to fix mine in a place where the fuel "pees" all over the tyre when the undercarriage is lowered..... as it obviously would be while filling..... Just a silly issue I have to address that I couldnt "see" as I did that with the UC retracted... |
RE: Seagull Super Tucano
rk212, have you flown yours yet?
I'm having RF problems where the nosewheel lowers and raises as it likes due to noise created by the ignition pack (being so close due to layout)........ are you experiencing this? |

Hi Ceecrb1,
Apologies for delay, I have been putting some final touches to the Tucano and hoping to maiden this Saturday! The weather hasn't been that great in the UKbut looking much better this weekend http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...ular_smile.gif I've tested the retracts with the engine running and all seemed ok. Is the front wheel not retracting? Also - just before my maiden takes place did you find that the CG in manual works ok for you? Attached of few pics this time for you. 15x12 prop still waiting to go on, need to cut spinner slightly. Have you flown yours more with 15x12 yet? |
RE: Seagull Super Tucano
Yes i've flown with the 15x12, with this lrop I had real problems slowing down to land and ended up running waay long and off the end of the runway.
Whats happening is that during flight, at certain revs the nose wheel will lower itself then raise again... Around 25-30% ish.. I have been thinking of powering the nosewheel by the ignition battery and its own rx to completely separate it from the servos etc.. If it has to have noise problems, ateast it will the the only thing suffering!! The cg was more than fine! |
RE: Seagull Super Tucano
ok will keep 15x12 speed in mind on landing sounds like i could land it at idle tickover maybe?!http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...used_smile.gif
Yes a seperate pack might help with 'noise' if it doesnt you may need to think about repositioning the ignition unit and RX as far away as poss When you use flaps did it push nose up or down? Need to think about putting in some up/down elevator if so.... |
RE: Seagull Super Tucano
If you lower the speed then drop the flaps, for me it did nothing! With flaps lowered and increased throttle it raises verticaly with no aoa very like a glider in a thermal.. If it balloons you dropped the flaps with too much airspeed.
It just raises the nose a tiny amount but thats what you wanto to reduse airspeed to land.. I mixed qbsolutely nothing.. |
RE: Seagull Super Tucano
Dear Guys,
I just bought the Seagull Super Tucano, I have a OS FS91 Superpass unused here and would like to use in this plane, do you guys think that this engine has enough power to fly this model... static thrust of this engine with 14x7 propeller is 167 oz... Thanks ! Iwasa |

guys,I to have just started this model and have started to fit the DLE20 into it.I have used the JTec muffler and it fits without the side of the cowl needing cutting.i have also cut out some holes where the exhaust ducts are on the cowl.i found a tank that will fit the orgianl setup but will accept the gas bung.I believe its made by hy models, sold here is Oz by ace models.I'm currently looking for retract options as i dont like the setup of the mechanical retractss.I asked Down and Locked for a price to convert but the retracts aren't worth that much so I am doing the big www search to see what else is out there.

RE: Seagull Super Tucano
Hello guys,
I bought my Super Tucano and I will also use a DLE 20cc on it. Could you please tell me what fuel tank model are you using? Also, what prop size suits better for this model? I believe you should have tried some! I will start with 2 blade until I`m get used to this model, but in the future I plan to try 3 blade and 4 blade prop. Zinger props seems to be a good to try.<br type="_moz" /> |
