RE: How Many Airplanes Do You Have In Your Hangar?
MY problem is not how many I have but where to hide them or store them between flights, repairs etc. My shop is 20ft x 8ft and when I build it it was the grandest dang thing this side of timbuktu. Today it has.
World Models 40 size trainer (my first and now used for my boy and friends kids) Topflite P51 1/5th scale that is two years in the line. Fuse is fiber glassed. Wings are glassed, painted sanded and sanded and sanded and sanded and still need more bloody sanding to gety them to mirror finish. US 45 in the hole (Not nice) H9 1/4 scale super cub being kit bashed to a scale New Zealand crop duster. Full interior and working hopper. 3W24 in the hole. Yellow air TEXAN with 70cc 3W in the box. Not started. GP 300 PW with Brison 50cc. Flew it today and it is a bullet. Best ARF I have flown first up out of the box. Took four days to build. 16lbs with no fuel. 20 X 10 plastic prop. Will fit a three blade 20 x 10 carbon fibre as this engine sings with them fitted. GP Pitts with no engine as it is in the Extra. Will fit a Saito 180 as it was a pig to fly with the Brison (over powered to buggery) and the firewall failed twice. Old H9 J3 cub with OS 160 FS160 twin. When I get done with the fast stuff this settles the blood pressure down again. Fanatsy with Mintor 170 being built for me in Argentina. ( camodel.com.ar) I could do it myself but these boys are brilliant and I dont want to fool with it. Funtana S40 on order but the buggers are never in stock. FS70 with pump also on back order. That tells me they are popular or crash a lot. Not sure which. GWS F4U with fully fibreglassed fuse and wing. 400 motor and LP battery pack. Ready in a week or so and should fun and strong to boot. No noticeable change in weight with the galssed wing and fuse by using a lipo pack. Kyosho concept 30 heli (12 years old and many crashes but fitted with a 401 gyro and FMA autopilot. Waiting to fly it next week as the radio is being reprogrammed. Old fat thumbs here just cant seem to get the heli programming right. 8UAP. Mini electric heli that has bust more blades than I care to recall. That serves me right for flying it in confined spaces. However my biggest battle is my six year old son who for some reason is smitten with the bug as well. Heck I mean he cannot fly the same planes as dad can he!!!!. Who would be seen dead flying some silly old buggers planes by his best mates. He needs fast, furious and flash if he is to seen at all at the local field. There goes a few more bucks I trust to meet that need. Still in the end I think it is never quantity that counts but quality. Two or three ones beats the hell out of ten or twelves so so's. Just remember, there are old pilots and bold pilots. But no old bold pilots. |

Hey Ned,
I'ts been 55 highs lately, 35 and 38's at night. Great building weather though! Here is a shot of my new GSP Katana (highly kit bashed and modified!) |
RE: How Many Airplanes Do You Have In Your Hangar?
I got back into the hobby March of 2003. Now I have four planes ready-to-fly, one on the table, and five more new in the box.
My biggest problem is that I'm not into building that much. I love flying, but building seems like homework to me. That being said, I'm like a proud papa when I finish a plane. Airworthy: Hobbico Avistar #2 - OS .40 LA, Futaba - SkySport 4VF Hobbico SkyVista - Tower .46 ABC - Futaba SkySport 4VF Thunder Tiger Lazy Tiger P-51 - OS .40 LA - Futaba 7 Super, Model #1 Great Planes J-3 Cub ARF, with GP floats - OS 91 FS - Futaba 7 Super, Model #2 (bought used) Building: Great Planes Super Sportster - OS .46FX - Futaba 9CAP New in box: Great Planes Lancair - Saito 100 - Futaba 9CAP VectorFlight Edge 540 - Saito 100 planned - Futaba 9CAP Dave Patrick Ultimate 1.20 - Saito 180 planned - Futaba 9CAP Soarstar Electric - future airborne video platform and park flyer Alfa F4U-1 Corsair - electric park flyer Simulator: RealFlight G2 with Addons 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 Crashed: Great Planes Cherokee - OS .46SF (my only kit build, probably my last...) Crashed on maiden due to loss of control. Was flying fine until my Dad asked the test pilot (not me) to do a snaproll. Before I could say "No heavy acrobatics on the first flight" the guy did it and the plane went dead after that - maybe a loose batery or just bad batteries - those old NiCads were sitting around for three years while I built/ignored the Cherokee. Hobbico Avistar #1 - First plane when I got back into hobby. Crashed into a tree on maiden due to cocky pilot (me) thinking he could just go out and fly after ten years off. Remember to reverse ailerons/rudder when the plane is flying towards you! |

RE: How Many Airplanes Do You Have In Your Hangar?
NO JOKE Hill!!
I've been trying to figure out a way to sell one of my kidneys so I can buy the GP Patty Wagstaff 300S and not have to read the instructions for the plane and my divorce papers at the same time... Currently: Hobbico Superstar .40 trainer (one piece still. -gotta love flight simulators) GP Supersportster .40 / OS .46 FX GP Cap 232 .40 / OS .91 fs w/tme smoke sys (my baby) & a spad I havent finished yet. All flown with Futaba's 9CAP. Just to get this far, with all the flight equipment and battery gear that is reasonable, I'm into this hobby for over $2,000. And I still feel like I'm a pitiful looser compared to you guys. -To all of you guys with 20+ airplanes, I salute you... And respectfully request a wife swap. ;) Shane |
