Great Planes new Escapade for DLE 30cc?

Saw this at the booth for GP/Tower/Hobbico at the AMA Convention.....I'm pretty sure it was for a 20 cc DLE engine - looks good to me!!! Can't wait for more information!

Looks just like a 70" Revolver, w/flaps? If it flies half as good as the Revolver flies with a 20 in it, it'll be pretty popular...

Looks powerfully desirable. I wish you could have gotten some info on it, wingspan, wing area, weight, etc. The tag below it simply said Escapade MX ARF. GP currently has the mid-wing Escapade MX but it's electric and it does not look anywhere close to these pics.

I wrote to a friend who works at Hobbico for more details....nothing has come back, but as soon as I find out something - I'll post it here.....

Great Planes Might be stepping up, interested to see more detail.

Got to thinking about the flap questioning. I have had 3 Revolvers with still a 4th new one in the box. Thus, if this new plane flies half as good as the Revolver, then why would this new one need flaps ? Revolvers don't ! ....... LOL ...... :o

ahicks 01-21-2015 09:26 AM

They might if they're being flown on the suggested CG....

Now I'm confused ! Which is not hard to do at my age. :( In real life flap position never came into the configuration when I did the weight and balance / CG figures.
Why would it matter with this model
Not questioning anyone's knowledge or experience. Just trying to gain some for myself. ;)

SkyPilot101 01-22-2015 12:44 PM

Considering the forward C/G point recommended, the flaps would be needed to slow it down to a decent landing speed.

ahicks 01-22-2015 12:45 PM

Exactly.

I guess I was thinking of something that might help slow a fast moving plane on final. Forward CG = coming in hot, landing long?

Tom Nied 01-22-2015 07:45 PM

I sure looks "groovy".

Granpooba 01-23-2015 10:19 AM

Never thought that a Revolver was a " Hot Landing Model ". Guess its just me ............. LOL

ahicks 01-23-2015 11:12 AM

Betting you aren't flying on suggested CG?

Mine will land at speeds where the guys I'm flying with are holding their breath....

Truthfully, my Revolvers at least in my eyes, never seemed to be coming in fast on final to touchdown. Nobody in two clubs I belong to have ever commented that they are a hot landing model. My GP Shoestring is another question. Now that is my hot landing model. LOL

ahicks 01-23-2015 05:44 PM

OK, I get it. "Hot" is subjective...

Want to jump in here. I don't get where the whole revolver conversation came in to play. The GP revolver is a sport/pattern ship with tapered wings. This airplane, as identified by its tag in the photo, is a variant of their escapade line, which are true sport plane airframes. The airplane in the photo clearly has a constant chord wing. That being said, I want one!! Reminds me of Hangar 9's meridian. Can't make out the engine size from the photo, but my guess would be that it was designed with the OS GG15/GG22 gas engine and variants in mind. That would put it right in my wheelhouse, around 70" WS. Here's hopeing! I actually think it resembles the somewhat recently re-released stinger more than anything, with a sexier turtle deck/canopy and a new covering scheme.

ahicks 01-23-2015 06:52 PM

Not to take away from the points you make, but those that know the Revolver well will recognize the cowl, canopy, and turtle deck as being very similar (identical on this proto maybe ?) to the Revolver's - generating the "similar" comments above.

The shorter front deck, higher wing location, different wings (most likely built up vs. the sheeted foam Revolver wings) and rudder all make this a very different plane. I like it as a sport plane too! Looking forward to seeing the specs on it.

Indiomike 01-23-2015 08:27 PM

Rats. I attended the AMA convention but must have overlooked this plane. Looking at the first photo you will see a DLE sticker on the cowl above what appears to a DLE muffler so I would guess it's either a 20cc or 30cc powered plane. No doubt Tower will carry it when it becomes available. I'm interested in the specs. on it.

Granpooba 01-24-2015 04:29 PM

Am wondering if it has the same week landing gear as in all " Revolvers " ?

jdmachinery 01-29-2015 01:02 PM

An email was sent to Tower's Hobby Services, who responded with ' they don't have any info information...on the MX 30 CC'. So it appears to be a 30cc sized plane. Was hopping it was for the 20cc but imagine 30cc will be a good plane.

tailskid 01-29-2015 01:07 PM

Well that is one more piece of the puzzle.....

Re: the landing gear, the pic. appears to be showing alum. gear?

jet22b 02-03-2015 10:10 AM

I would go with a DLE 35RA and won't look back!!! Now that's just me!!! I wish they would come out with the Escape 90 size like they did with the Revolver!!
Don't know why they came out with flaps, because this plane do land slow without them. Can't wait for more info to come out!!!
And yes it look like a 70 size Revolver in the nose!!!

Yes Sir, in my eyes also, it appears to be an aluminum gear. :D BUT !! The question is, how is it mounted in the fuselage  Every Revolver that I have ever had needed to have the landing gear mount reinforced in the fuselage. And many more people on the Revolver Forums have voiced the same complaint. I am just hoping that GP finally got the message and designed this new model with a strong gear mount. ;)
