Shipping charges

Does it really cost $150 to ship a plane UPS? I have a mambe coming and that's the charge. My friend has a 30CC plane coming from Extreme that is costing $175.

Shipping costs today are the deal breaker for a lot of sales. Seems only people making a good profit margin are the shipping carriers.Their charges to an individual or small company that does not have a contract are becoming way out of line.

I recently contacted a vendor in New York (I am in California) about a 30cc size ARF on sale for $199.95. Shipping quote was for $245.00 on top of the selling price! Ended that deal immediately.

Large vendors/distributors (Horizon/Tower, SIG, Hobby King, etc.) have contracts with fixed shipping costs so they have flexibility.

Shipping estimates have ended a lot of potential buys from Ebay for that reason also.

Actually I saved a lot of hobby money in 2018 because of ridiculous shipping estimates.

I recently had to ship a .60 size airplane that wasn't finished so the box was smaller then had it been completely assembled. Even though it cost me 140.00 to ship. That was a real eye opener as I will soon start doing a limited production of a 2 meter pattern airplane.

My concern was pockets were being padded. I hate the high shipping but if it's at cost I can deal with it. I am in the furniture business. I can get a La Z Boy recliner shipped for $50 a seat. Like was mentioned LZB probable has a contract.
Thanks all, David

A few years ago the shipping companies started to charge based on size and weight instead of weight, as a result shipping charges have on some items become unreasonable. The shipping
companies don't like dealing with larger items because they reduce the amount of packages that can be loaded on their vehicles.

Yup. I've paid close to $500.00 to ship a model. Shipping large items costs money. Higher shipping costs are a fact of life.
