RE: Dave Patrick super cub
Not sure on the engine....want gas but don't want to cut the cowl, checking out gassers now. I bought a G26 for it but too big. I'm looking at the RCS 140 or maybe the Roto 25 from RC Showcase. Both beam mounted.

Bud, mine ships out on Monday the 26th in the yellow scheme. I got a brand new Saito 150S waiting for its home to arrive. Spoke to Dave Patrick, he tells me that it should fit entirely inside the cowl without cutting. Now that I saw your pictures can't wait to get mine!

Bud Faulkner 07-25-2004 08:33 AM

RE: Dave Patrick super cub
Your gonna love it orvel.....I had no clue mine was coming, was walking out the basement door to the driveway when the UPS guy pulled up. All you guy's who bought one will have to keep each other posted on the progress (picture's please) just can't get mine started right away....too many irons in the fire. [:o] Hopefully I can enjoy it while the snow falls this winter. :)

RE: Dave Patrick super cub
My white one showed up at the shop this morning. It's a scale model of a real full sized Super Cub built in 1994, a 150 HP version.

I plan on using an OS 160 Twin under the hood.

It looks absolutely beautiful and the parts are still in those plastic bags!

RE: Dave Patrick super cub
I hear Patrick just placed first at the NATS with this bird. Anyone have any info on this?

Mine was shipped last week, may be here today. Really want to gas but have no idea what will fit. If the G26 is too big it really cuts down on selection. Fuji 32??

Any ideas. If I go glow really need some power for towing BIG sail planes.

RE: Dave Patrick super cub
His web site has the info about it...it was Greame Mears fully detailed cub, Dave flew it at top gun 2004

RE: Dave Patrick super cub
ordered mine yesterday in white, have os 160 gemeni for it did some home work on the eng they used and the saito 120 is 133mm high and the os 160 is 196 mm wide so doubling the saitos 133 to 266 leaves plentyof room in the cowl, and the cowl is not tapered.my only concern is that 2.0 hp is enough to fly the plane ok and have enough power to get out of trouble, or maybe into trouble, which seems to be the fate most of the time, my sons fly the planes, i just assemble and detail, thank heavens, some time they the planes can be repaired? those of you that have os 160 s do you need an on board glow? have mcdanels 472 but dont want to add the weight, hey lets keep adding to this thread for the super cub! thanks jim

RE: Dave Patrick super cub
Bud Faulkner.

You said the G26 is too big for the cub. Which demension? Too tall, wide, long?

Anyone used one of the BH Hanson G26s? He claims a more compact, lighter product and about a 30% performance increase over the standard G26.

RE: Dave Patrick super cub
The distance from the center of the cowl opening to the side of the cowl is a tad over 4 1/2" not much over though. The dimensions from the approx. location of the center of the cylinder of an RCS140 and the dim. from the beam mount to the top of the ignition cap when mounted (from the engine dimensions shown on the RCS web site) is 4 1/2" to the side of the cowl on the inside. The distance from the center of the shaft on the G26 is approx. 5" I checked it again last night. I don't remember the exact dim. just laid my tape on it and knew it was too big without cutting the cowl. It's obvious the inverted mount will not work either without cutting the bottom out of the cowl. There may be some out there who don't mind cutting but i'm too scale oriented. The RCS140 will just fit with a side mounted engine but if you want to stay with gas and consider the 140 I suggest you do your own math and not take my word for it. I'm still considering that engine if I stay with gas unless I get an awful good deal on a nice O.S. or Saito twin in the 1.20 to 1.50 range. Hope this makes sense.

Got mine Monday. White version. Gonna put a scale 1976 paint version on mine. My H9 182 is beautiful and I love it, but this PA-18
absolutley takes the cake. This has got to be the nicest ARF I have ever seen. Not a flaw anywhere. Absolutley beautiful.

RE: Dave Patrick super cub
What type of paint are you going to use....going to use the blue on white on mine.

RE: Dave Patrick super cub
Bud, Ive searched through some of my photos and iam going with avaits 1994 scheme, white with red trim and lite grey and red trim interior , make everything from blue construction foam, I have to find some info on the 160 as to tank place ment ,ect and I seen that Dick pette has one also, maybe and upcoming review is coming.and like you,I dont want to cut on the cowling, So your doing floats?wow thier a model in them selves , must be around 40 inches long. Iam thinking large bush wheels 5 or so inches, w,ell see! havent decited on what method to apply the new scheme, trim tape, paint ect been reading up on rustolium, coverite ect ,only want to do it once and not go back and redo or touch up, well read some more, I know Iam not useing laquar. hey got to go . thanks to all jim:D

I tried the clear Lustre Kote paint on my H9 cub which has the same covering and it took real well so I may use it..still undecided. I have heard of some using PPG on Ultra Cote with good results. Not gonna rush...I don't want to go back and have to re-do anything either. As far as floats go I built mine for my unfinished BUSA 1/4 scale cub with a G38 but again i'm still undecided. My floats are 46" May make the DPM cub a land lubber with wheel pants. Lots of time yet for final decisions. I've used the blue foam for many years, hard to find but I used the 1-1/2 pound density and it was the polyurethane foam, the only one that will accept epoxy. Sanding it leaves little particles floating in the air and on your clothes, best to wear a mask. Keep us posted on your progress, especially the interior.

RE: Dave Patrick super cub
I have one of this on order as well. I was going to use a 1.50 Saito in it. Any thoughts on a muffler. I was thinking about a slimline inverted pitts but they are pricey. Any other suggestions? I would like not to cut the cowl. Thanks

RE: Dave Patrick super cub

Thanks for the info. Looks like you killed my G26 idea, durn it. I don't know about the 140, thinking about a Satio twin.

Plane arrived today. Not a wrinkle and just a fabulous piece of work. The manual is far and away the best I have ever seen. Wish he made some warbirds this size.

Have a set of scale Wipline floats (48") and have been thinking of wheel floats for a long time. Still have not worked out the steering retract set up on the nose wheels. Gets real tricky.

Also am going to add a door. Seems a shame not to have one on such a perfect scale plane like this.

Thanks again.

RE: Dave Patrick super cub

YUP YUP on the door....thinking the same thing. Been reading some not so good posts on the 140 so decided to just stay with gas on my BUSA cub and order the OS160 twin for this one. Should have done that from the git go...gonna look nice with a twin under the hood.
