Default Rotorshape Autogyro by LAheli

I was intrigued by this when I saw it advertised on RCU. I bought one. It arrived today. The instructions leave a lot to be desired. Has anyone built one? If you have, any tips to share? Thanks!

Hi,
Yes, I have one. Agree, not much for instructions but it's pretty simple and the layout diagram is all you need to put it together. I recommend using epoxy vs. CA to assemble the body and sandpaper all the joints on the plastic or it doesn't hold together.

Is this your first gyro? Good luck.

Good looking model. I'm tinkering with a scale model Xenon I'm trying to build from scratch. I keep getting different figures on wing loading.
Can you tell me what rotor diameter you have and total model weight. I want to see if I'm in the ballpark. I'm using a 13 inch electric prop at 13,000 rpm so
at least I'll have plenty of power.

Hi Mark,

My Rotorshape weighs 10.5 oz with a 3 cell 910mah Lipo. The disc radius is 13 3/8 inches. By my calculations that yields a Disc Loading of 2.7 oz/ sq ft.
From what I have read, a good rule of thumb is to stay under 6 oz per sq ft. And stay in the range of 5 to 6 watts per ounce.

Jim Baxter has provided some excellent information on all of this, which can be found at http://www.autogyro.com/

Regards,
Frank

Hi MrMulligan,

I don't know if this is of any help but I found these [link=http://www.laheli.com/files/navody/NavodRS_CZEN.pdf]instructions[/link] on the LAHeli site. [link=http://www.maxir.logoheli.com/rotorshape_review.htm]This[/link] should also be of some help.

For the other guys who love scale, suffer from bad eyesight or have orientation problems look at [link=http://www.laheli.com/web/article.php?aid=43&clanek=We%20are%20prepare]this[/link]. Just a little something to wet your appetite, look below.

Regards.

I love my LA Rotorshape!!!! I fly the snot out of it every chance I get!!!!
I made a new landing gear for and attached some killer Trexlers...it helps me get my orintation seeing the wheels move back and forth as I turn.

Thanks XE521. Those places are a great help. The large exploded view of the rotor head was especially useful.
To imsofaman, thanks for sharing the videos. I really enjoyed them.

LATEST FROM LAHELI.

Hi guys,

I have just received news from a distributor, who has a Czech partner, concerning the release date of the C30. Apparently the C30 is still in the prototype stage, and the 2nd April release date quoted in LAHeli's web site is incorrect and should read 'end of second quarter'. The RRP, as of yesterday (4th April), is still not known.

If someone has contrary info, please post.

Regards.

Karl.

What motor do you recommend for the Rotorshape? I have an EFlite 370 outrunner and a couple of AXI 2212's.

If the 370 is comperable to the AXI 2208.....I would go with that. The 2212 may be a little heavy? Not sure on that because I do not own one. Sorry for lack of info. The 2208 totally kicks butt! Also the Typhoon Micro6 works well. I have used both.

I'm running an E-Flite 370 in my Rotorshape and it has plenty of power. It really flys well and I'm having a blast with it. I did have to modify the landing gear to prevent tipping over and blade strikes when landing. I can post a picture if there is any interest.
Also here are the specs on my Rotorshape setup:

Model RotorShape
Rotor Radius in Inches 13.375
Rotor Blade Chord in inches 1.50
Number of Blades 3
Number of Rotors 1
Wing or Disc Area in Sq Ft 3.90
Weight in oz 10.50
Wing or Disc Loading 2.69
Motor E-Flite 370 Outrunner
KV rating 1360
Battery Thun Power Lipo 3 cells
Battery Voltage 11.10
Battery mah rating 910.00
ESC Name E-Flite20 Amp
ESC Current rating 20.00
Prop Size 7X4 APC SF
Full Throtle Voltage 10.18
Full Throtle Current 9.32
Full Throtle Power in Watts, from Pwr Meter 95.90
Half Throtle Voltage 10.73
Half Throtle Current 6.47
Half Throtle Power in Watts, from Pwr Meter 70.20

Thanks, I compared my EFlite 370 to my AXI 2212/26 and the 370 is smaller, probably the same size as the AXI 2208. I'm going to go with my 370.

I think the 370 is ideal...it is much more powerful than the recomended motor.
