Geoges Chaulet´s intermeshing rotors gyro-kite
Hi,
Lifetime gyromodeler Georges (Jojo) Chaulet of France became well known by his successful, pionnering RC autogyro designs, the "Synchrogyro" (intermeshing rotors) and the "Tandem" (Chinook heli style). Several years ago he switched to electric power and, since then, he has designed, built and flown quite a few autogyros of this kind. More recently, he´s been experimenting with gyro-kites. He´s sent me several photos of them, which I´ve attached to this note. The yellow one has a single rotor and is more or less stable in moderate winds. The white one is a "Synchrogyro-kite" for it´s got two intermeshing rotors (interconnected by gears); it flies well in 12-15 mph winds and may take off (R.O.G.) by itself by taking advantage of any wind gust. Rotor diameter 42.5 in., weight 12 ozs.

Thanks for posting the photos from JoJo, Emilio...
Certainly he is one of the truly innovative "gyro modelers" I believe the number of his experimental models is well over 200!

That is another great looking gyro! Even better....is the dihedral on the rotors. Hmmmm......looks like it would be very stable! This man knows what he is doing for sure! I would like to see some video of this bird flying. Is there some footage somewhere?

Dave,
I´m afraid Georges has not made any video footage of his gyrokites. Here´s another view of the one with twin intermeshing rotors.

The position of the towline is interesting - out front and up high. Not where I would have put it! Perhaps explains why my experiments with gyro kites were failures - kite would not stabilise, it would veer from side to side and eventually hit the ground. I naturally followed my free flight and r/c glider experience and had the towhook position under the nose and back a bit. Seems to me that R/C autogyros are easier to fly than gyro kites!
