F.S. Bernal´s electric powered gyro
Hi,
Several months ago, my friend and clubmate Francisco S. Bernal designed and built a light direct control electric powered autogyro which has been flying successfully since then. We can say it is a good electric gyro trainer. Here are the specs:
- Rotor dia: 37.8"
- Weight: 24 ozs (with battery)
- Engine: Twister-X EM-400/24
- Prop: 9x3.8
- Battery: LiPo 1200 mAh, 11.1 V
- Rotor head: articulated (flapping hinges, 15º delta-3 angle).
- Blade width: 1.57"
- Blade thickness: 0.23"
- Blade weight: 1 oz.
The blades are made of balsa plus hardwood leading edge. This gyro needs some more roll control throw to the right than to the left in order to overcome engine torque when flying at full power.

The way your freind got around the difficulties of fabricating parts by using a truck stearing knucle and using real hinges, is really awesome. Looks like he has a real winner on his hands. Simple yet very effective. Flapping hinges RULE!!!!!!
