Default LIPO Balancer

Hi
I have a DuraTrax onyx 230 chager , Equinox LiPo balancer and 2cell 20c 5000mah LiPo. I was reading the instruction for the balancer and it says that if i am charging through the balancer with more than 3 amps I will need a high currant adapter. Can I just balance the battery before I charge it and all will be good. Or do I need to charge through the balancer to get it balanced right. I am new to LiPos so any help will be good. You could just tell me how i need to use this stuff properly. I am good with charger.

Thanks for the help

You could balance before you charge, it will make sure you are starting with a balanced pack. You could also balance the packs after they are charged to bring them into balance if need be. Most decent batteries do not need to be balanced every charge, so you could balance them at a lower charge every 5 or so charges. You could also hook the Equinox balancer to the balance tap on the battery, leave the leads on the other end disconnected (put some electrical tape around the positive lead though so it does not short out on the neg lead). Put it into quick balance (not interface) and hook your main battery leads to the charger and charge them like you normally do. The balancer will try to keep them balanced while they charge.

Two choices (without high power leads)

Balance at 3 amps or less thru the balancer or at any rate (as stated above) balance "on the side" (quick balance mode)
