Hi all,

I've read that you shouldn't charge NiMh packs in series due to all of the cells being different. I've also read that you need to break-in new packs by cycling them so that the cells can find a balance together.

So... if you take two new packs and break them in as though they're one pack, this wouldn't be any different than if they truly were one pack, would it? Other than a cable instead of a tab between a few of the cells.

Any thoughts?

I'm thinking about doing this for two NiMh packs for my engine starter.

I'm afraid you have it backwards; you must not charge Nixx in parallel, series is the preferred way. As to break in, more commonly know as doing a forming charge, all Nixx batteries will benefit from a slow charge which is defined as charging at a 0.1C rate for 16 hours. This will insure all cells are fully charged and is at a low enough rate that it will not damage those cells which reach full charge first.
