Replace NiMH and NiCD receiver packs with LIPOS
Hey does anyone know what I would need to do to replace all of my receiver packs with lipos? I have read that I should use a 7.4v 2S lipo with a voltage regulator? I am currently running a bunch of Spektrum receivers but none on the higher end ones which support lipos directly, I am looking for a solution for my lower cost receivers
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Aamir

If you already have the Lipo then yes all you need is a simple regulator such as the Castle BEC 10A. It would be soldered into the circuit between the battery and the receiver.
Get ready for everybody to scream to use LIFE batteries though as you will not need a regulator and that regulators are just another component to fail.

I have no idea regarding your situation there in Pakistan but would think staying with NiMh or Ni Cds would be best for you.I myself continue to favor NiMi. for my glow powered planes, use LiPo's for electrics.

thanks guys - i figured the regulator would be the best and only solution to put as piggy in the middle - however the chances of failure do go up as you mentioned; are there any good regulators out there?
We have all kinds of batteries out here and most people are using NIMH for their packs, and the big plane guys are using duralites

I only use Castle BEC's. Have 4 glow planes using them from a 40 size trainer to a 75 size pusher prop jet and have never had any issues at all with any of them for over 3 years now.
Heres one I set up last night.
The battery is a Rhino 2S 750Mah, Castle 10A BEC, Futaba switch and AR6200 RX. The plane is a Phoenix Strega.

Any of the big retailer will have them. I see that your not in the US but shouldn't be that hard to find them.
I don't know of any Eastern/European hobby shops but if they will shop Towerhobbies or AMainhobbies will have them. Might also try EBay or Amazon too if they are available to you.
One of my planes has 8 standard servos and it has no problems with this BEC.
2-Aileron, 2-Rudder, 2-Elevator, 1-Throttle and 1-Steering.
