Please recommend or discuss watt meters as I think I need one.

I'm using and like the Wattsup. It handles any current load I've needed up to now, and if I ever need to measure higher load products, I'll just add a shunt.
There are quite a few options for watt meters, including home-made, but the Wattsup is a trouble free and elegant solution for most situations.

I have a budget priced watt meter that has served me well over the last 2 years or so. It does not have all of the bells and whistles yet it lets me see if I am using the best prop for what I have.

The Medusa Power Analyzer was one of the best. Unfortunately they are no longer producing them. Keep an eye out for one on e-Bay and you might get lucky.
